Book Ecuadorians in Madrid

Download or read book Ecuadorians in Madrid written by Araceli Masterson-Algar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the decade between 1998-2008, Spain became the main destination for Ecuadorian migrants, and Madrid, Spain's capital, became the city with the largest Ecuadorian population outside of Ecuador. Through a combination of ethnographic research and cultural analysis, this book addresses the interconnections between spatial practices, cultural production, and definitions of citizenship in migration dynamics between Ecuador and Spain, showing how Ecuadorians are key actors in Madrid's recent urban history. Looking at the city as form and content, constitutive and constituting of ideological processes, each chapter analyzes the spatial practices of Madrid's Ecuadorian residents through various forms: the body, the home, public and leisure spaces, the city, the nation, and transnational circuits. Rather than addressing migrants as a general human type marked by (dis)placement, each chapter offers an illustration of how Ecuadorian migrants forge transnational processes through their everyday lives in specific time and place, and how these processes manifest culturally on both sides of the Atlantic.

Book 90 a os de metro en Madrid

Download or read book 90 a os de metro en Madrid written by César Mohedas García and published by . This book was released on 2010-09-15 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Trains Culture and Mobility

Download or read book Trains Culture and Mobility written by Benjamin Fraser and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trains, Culture and Mobility: Riding the Rails goes beyond textual representations of rail travel to engage an impressive range of political, sociological and urban theory. Taken together, these essays highlight the complexity of the modern experience of train mobility, and its salient relation to a number of cultural discourses. Incorporating traditionally marginal areas of cultural production such as graffiti, museums, architecture or even plunging into the social experience of travel inside the traincar itself, each essay constitutes an attempt to work from the act of riding the train toward questions of much larger significance. Crisscrossing cultures from the New World and Old, from East and West, these essays share a common preoccupation with the way in which trains and railway networks have mapped and re-mapped the contours of both cities and states in the modern period. Bringing together individual and large-scale social practices, this volume traces out the cultural implications of "Riding the Rails."

Book Old Europe New Suburbanization

Download or read book Old Europe New Suburbanization written by Nicholas A. Phelps and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The youthful vigour of urbanization in North America has promulgated a dominant perspective on urban theory, specifically on suburbs, that establishes the United States as the norm against which all other contexts are measured. However, much of the vocabulary surrounding the American experience isn’t applicable to the wider world. Old Europe, New Suburbanization? takes us on a journey of rediscovery into some of Europe’s oldest metropolises. The volume’s contributors reveal the great variety of patterns and processes of urbanization that make Europe a fruitful ground for furthering the diversity of global suburbanisms. The effects of urban history found in such cities as Athens, London, Madrid, Montpellier, and Sofia, varies greatly due to the sheer variety of economic, industrial, land, and expansionist policies at play on the continent. This collection highlights the varied historical and geographical manifestations that have shaped urban areas and provides evidence for new processes of suburbanization.

Download or read book Manual para el desarrollo de ferrocarriles urbanos written by Daniel Pulido and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
