Download or read book Methods of Intermediate Problems for Eigenvalues Theory and Ramifications written by A. Weinstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1972-06-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation; methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; and methods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particular branches, such as optimal filtering and information compression. - Best operator approximation, - Non-Lagrange interpolation, - Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform - Generalised low-rank matrix approximation - Optimal data compression - Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Principles of Combinatorics

Download or read book Principles of Combinatorics written by Berge and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1971-04-20 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Berge's Principles of Combinatorics is now an acknowledged classic work of the field. Complementary to his previous books, Berge's introduction deals largely with enumeration. The choice of topics is balanced, the presentation elegant, and the text can be followed by anyone with an interest in the subject with only a little algebra required as a background. Some topics were here described for the first time, including Robinston-Shensted theorum, the Eden-Schutzenberger theorum, and facts connecting Young diagrams, trees, and the symmetric group.

Book Many Body Methods in Quantum Chemistry

Download or read book Many Body Methods in Quantum Chemistry written by Uzi Kaldor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains the text of the invited lectures presented at the Symposium on Many Body Methods in Quantum Chemistry, held on the campus of Tel Aviv University in August 1988. The Symposium was a satellite meeting of the Sixth International Congress on Quantum Chemistry held in Jerusalem. The development and application of many-body methods in Quantum chemistry have been on the rise for a number of years. This is therefore a good time for an interim report on the state of the field. It is hoped that such a report is hereby provided, though it may not be complete. The Symposium was held under the auspices of Tel Aviv University, Raymond and Beverly Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences, School of Chemistry. Other sponsors were the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and the Israeli Ministry of Science and Development. Many thanks go to all of them. Finally, I would like to thank all the speakers and participants for making the meeting the enjoyable and (I hope) profitable experience it was. In addition, the publication informs the numerical analysts and appliers of numerical software about the enormous variety of problem-solving algorithms now available, even for sophisticated problems which were beyond reach at the beginning of research some two decades ago. Contributions are sourced from a variety of international experts and together these form a textbook collection of 14 non-overlapping multidisciplinary sections. in interval arithmetic, whilst the concluding chapter offers instructions on how to implement interval algorithms. Other problem areas addressed in the bulk of the volume include: systems of nonlinear equations, simultaneous methods for polynomial zeros, linear systems, matrix inversion, matrix eigenvalue problems, eigenvalues of selfadjoint problems, ODE's, PDE's, optimization, problems in engineering, and complexity considerations in linear interval problems.

Book STUDIES IN EIGENVALUE THEORY

Download or read book STUDIES IN EIGENVALUE THEORY written by Alexander Weinstein and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was shown on a simple buckling problem that the method of Lagrangian multipliers, which was asssumed to be a simplification of the method of intermediate problems, actually yields incorrect numerical results. On the other hand, the method of intermediate problems provides simple and clear rules which are both mathematically rigorous and computationally feasible. A thorough study was made into the theoretical ramifications of intermediate problems. This investigation established the fact that intermediate problems, in addition to giving reliable lower bounds to eigenvalues, have stimulated research in purely theoretical subjects. Moreover, the contributions of intermediate problems to perturbation theory were clarified. The maximum-minimum and minimum-maximum principles for eigenvalues were extended to a class of unbounded operators of the type appearing in Schrodinger's theory. The properties of projections of selfadjoint operators were investigated which led to some sufficient conditions for such operators to be selfadjoint. Conditions were established between the maximum-minimum and minimum-maximum principles which pointed out their complementary nature as well as some basic differences.
