Book A constrained interactance model for trip distribution

Download or read book A constrained interactance model for trip distribution written by Gary D. Long and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To estimate the future volume of trips interchanging between each pair of zones within an urban area, a simple behavioral model of travel interaction is presented. The interactance model is subjected to a set of five constraints, which reflect pertinent conditions that should be fulfilled in the resulting distribution. A method is developed to distribute future trips in accordance with the interactance model so that all constraints will be satisfied. The constrained interactance model differs from other trip distribution models in that the distribution of trip lengths is constrained to result as given in advance. Furthermore, no model calibration is necessary. Rather than the conventional use of subjective judgements to distinguish the travel movements which warrant exogenous compensations to correct for socioeconomic biases, an objective procedure utilizing a statistical test is provided. Socioeconomic and geographic compensations, where needed, are applied between pairs of groups of contiguous and homogeneous zones rather than between individual zone pairs. A model is developed to determine the total number of zone pairs expected to have travel interactions in an urban area, as a function of the number of trips and zones. Another model which describes travel interaction propensities as related to travel disutility, is developed to indicate which pairs of zones are the least likely to have travel interactions, and should be dropped from the trip distribution, in order to restrict the number of travel interactions to the estimated total. ...

Book Planning for Coastal Ports on a Systems Basis

Download or read book Planning for Coastal Ports on a Systems Basis written by Joseph Louis Carroll and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A representative sample of the literature relating to multiport deep draft transportation systems is reviewed, for the purpose of defining the major fields requiring investigation and identifying the methodologies which hold promise for use by the Corps of Engineers. Quantitative models for economic forecasting, shipping operations studies, and port planning and design are included as well as several large-scale comprehensive transportation planning models. An annotated bibliography and a computerized bibliographic index are included in the report. (Author).

Book Highway Noise

    Book Details:
  • Author : B. Andrew Kugler
  • Publisher : Transportation Research Board National Research
  • Release : 1976
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 850 pages

Download or read book Highway Noise written by B. Andrew Kugler and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1976 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description of motor vehicle noise sources and the potential for their control is provided. The report presents an overview of the suggested noise prediction methodology, which is a four step process that includes approximating noise impacts using a nomograph procedure to determine noise levels associated with given traffic and site characteristics; refining these predictions by more accurate representation of design parameters and use of a computer program that is able to plot as well as calculate noise impact; introducing appropriate noise-control options and evaluate them, using a noise barrier nomograph solution; lastly, selected options are fully evaluated using the computer program.

Book Transportation Decision making

Download or read book Transportation Decision making written by Marvin L. Manheim and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1975 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integrated approach is presented for systematically incorporating social, economic, and environmental factors into transportation planning and decision making. The timely identification is stressed of the nature, magnitude, and incidence of these potential factors so that in all phases of transportation planning, alternatives may be developed that avoid or minimize adverse effects and that take full advantage of opportunities to increase benefits. The early, effective, knowledgeable involvement of the public to clarify issues and to aid in the development and evaluation of proposals in emphasized, and the effective use is stressed of expertise and resources both of the transportation agency and of other agencies with maximum flexibility and openess. Objectives for all phases of a transportation planning and design process are listed, a 4-phase study strategy is proposed, and the roles of the transportation professional are reviewed.

Book Determining Pavement Skid resistance Requirements at Intersections and Braking Sites

Download or read book Determining Pavement Skid resistance Requirements at Intersections and Braking Sites written by Eugene Farber and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1974 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of skid resistance requirements for any given set of roadway and traffic conditions is reported. The study focuses on wet pavement skidding accidents at intersections and curves. The feasibility of implementing these procedures was demonstrated in the field. A simplified version of the procedures was also developed. The three steps involved in the procedure for determination of skid resistance requirements are outlined.
