Download or read book Beyonders Volume 1 Genesis written by Kevin Bookman and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-04-12 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A frightened world has come to realize that humans are no longer the dominant race on the planet. Another species has come forth. These new beings would be called Beyonders. Out of fear and hatred, the governments of the world came together to form a lethal team of highly qualified agents to protect the human race through any means necessary. Led by the sinister Edward Von Joseph, the World Security Taskforce would go on to terrorize and, in many instances, eliminate Beyonders without hesitation. However, not all Beyonders are vulnerable. Some have abilities that surpass the persecution of the taskforce. One in particular may be the greatest threat the world has ever known. Is he a friend or a deadly foe? The continued existence of mankind hinges on that answer. This is a story filled with exquisite beings of ethnical backgrounds and cultures with abilities unlike any others before them. A fight for survival in a hostile world where they're both hated and hunted simply for being different. Existing in a society without rights or protections, Beyonders must decide to either live in fear or personify it. A vast combination of incredible characters, traditional monsters, and wicked plots compose this first in a series of five books a must-read. Welcome to the world of Beyonders.

Download or read book History of the Literary Cultures of East Central Europe written by Marcel Cornis-Pope and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2007-07-18 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third volume in the History of the Literary Cultures of East-Central Europe focuses on the making and remaking of those institutional structures that engender and regulate the creation, distribution, and reception of literature. The focus here is not so much on shared institutions but rather on such region-wide analogous institutional processes as the national awakening, the modernist opening, and the communist regimentation, the canonization of texts, and censorship of literature. These processes, which took place in all of the region’s cultures, were often asynchronous and subjected to different local conditions. The volume’s premise is that the national awakening and institutionalization of literature were symbiotically interrelated in East-Central Europe. Each national awakening involves a language renewal, an introduction of the vernacular and its literature in schools and universities, the creation of an infrastructure for the publication of books and journals, clashes with censorship, the founding of national academies, libraries, and theaters, a (re)construction of national folklore, and the writing of histories of the vernacular literature. The four parts of this volume are titled: (1) Publishing and Censorship, (2) Theater as a Literary Institution, (3) Forging Primal Pasts: The Uses of Folk Poetry, and (4) Literary Histories: Itineraries of National Self-images.

Download or read book A Naval Biographical Dictionary Volume 1 written by William R. O’Byrne and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2012-02-06 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 of 3. Originally published in 1849, this work gives details of “the life and services of every living officer in ‘Her Majesty's Navy” who was serving or had retired by 1845 – nearly 5,000 officers in all. Generally acknowledged as the most comprehensive work of its kind, it was a considerable undertaking for one man to piece together such detailed biographies. This information was compiled from official records and from details supplied by the officers themselves. The service details found on every page reflect the centuries-old naval traditions of devotion to duty and great bravery in the face of danger. They also provide information on the many naval actions that were fought at the end of the eighteenth and first half of nineteenth centuries. Coincidentally, the original publication took place during the year of issue of what is now referred to as the Naval General Service Medal. In 1847 Queen Victoria authorised this award to be struck to record the services of naval officers and men who took part in various actions between 1793 and 1815, later extended to 1840. The award was limited to those who were alive at the time of the announcement. Over 200 Naval actions were commemorated on clasps to this medal; details of these and a considerable number of other engagements are to be found throughout this volume. Over the century and a half since its publication, this work has established itself as an essential reference work for naval historians and for a wider section of the public who are in search of their naval ancestry.
