Students are exposed to literary terminology. With each reading, a different aspect of literary analysis is presented (e.g., the use of dialogue, tone, narrative voice). Book Workbook Laboratory Manual for Punto Y Aparte

Download or read book Workbook Laboratory Manual for Punto Y Aparte written by Sharon Foerster and published by McGraw-Hill Education. This book was released on 2010-01-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Punto y aparte moves your students beyond learning about the Spanish language to actually using their Spanish in natural, meaningful contexts. With Punto y aparte students develop more confidence for communication and begin to think critically about language and culture. This is achieved by focusing on seven communicative functions and the grammar structures that support them. These communicative functions appear at the beginning and are recycled throughout, providing opportunities for review in different contexts. Since this is not the typical linear march through grammar one structure at a time, students are able to begin using language in a way that is creative and allows for natural language production. Ultimately, students will move easily from simple sentence-level discourse to paragraph-length discourse. The title itself makes reference to this progression, since it is the Spanish expression for the beginning of a new paragraph: punto y aparte.

Book Metas Spanish in Review Moving Toward Fluency

Download or read book Metas Spanish in Review Moving Toward Fluency written by Sharon Foerster and published by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages. This book was released on 2007-03-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metas is an exciting new version of the best-selling intermediate Spanish textbook Punto y aparte, created in response to requests from reviewers for a version of Punto y aparte with enough material to be used over the entire second year. Metas achieves this goal by essentially doubling the amount of material in each of the six main chapters of Punto y aparte (originally designed as a fourth-semester book), and then by dividing each of these expanded chapters (now called Unidades in Metas) into two self-contained sections (Capítulo A and Capítulo B) to make the amount of material more manageable. Thus, Metas offers the same 12-unit structure found in most intermediate Spanish textbooks (6 units x 2 chapters each = 12 manageable chapters). In terms of grammar, Metas focuses on key grammatical structures (los puntos clave) critical to the seven communicative functions or goals (las siete metas comunicativas) that are central to intermediate-level study. The seven communicative functions are: Description (Descripción) Comparison (Comparación) Reactions and recommendations (Reacciones y recomendaciones) Narrating in the past (Narración en el pasado) Talking about preferences (Hablar de los gustos) Hypothesizing (Hacer hipótesis) Talking about the future (Hablar del futuro) By organizing the text around key grammatical structures, Metas retains the framework of Punto y aparte, resulting in a logical and manageable progression. Additionally, the continual reinforcement and recycling of all seven communicative functions offer students many opportunities to communicate, produce, and create with the language, rather than to simply review the scope and sequence of Spanish grammar of their first-year course.

Book The Discourse of Tourism and National Heritage

Download or read book The Discourse of Tourism and National Heritage written by Claudia Elena Stoian and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Discourse of Tourism and National Heritage: A Contrastive Study from a Cultural Perspective presents an in-depth research study in the field of online tourism promotion. It focuses on the national online promotion of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, on two different types of websites â " institutional and commercial â " from three countries, Romania, Spain and Great Britain. The book analyses the way in which each country combines various modes to create a virtual brochure with a promotional message from both institutional and commercial positions. In doing this, it studies the organization of the websites and their webpages, as well as the lexico-grammatical and visual features of their promotional messages. The theoretical framework used is Systemic Functional Linguistics (Halliday 1985, 1994; Kress and van Leeuwen 1996, 2006; Halliday and Matthiessen 2004). The results are compared in relation to the types of websites and to the countries in which they were produced. These are further interpreted from a cultural perspective, showing that the findings can be accounted for by cultural variability, in particular the dimension of context (Hall 1976, 1990, 2000).
