Book Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts EFC 45

Download or read book Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts EFC 45 written by Philippe Dillmann and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This special issue of Corrosion Engineering Science and Technology is dedicated to the study of corrosion of objects from historical sites. The issue contains contributions from the 2009 EUROCORR session on Corrosion of Archaeological and Heritage Artefacts organised by the European Federation of Corrosion's working party and commissioned articles on other key issues. The objective is to give the reader a broad understanding of corrosion of ancient materials, for the most part metal but also glass. Articles shed light on a range of analytical approaches related to the study of the complex systems that make up historical artifacts. In order to arrive at an understanding of the nanometric organisation of rust layers and interphases, such studies must be approached on a macroscopic scale. Techniques used include; macrophotography, synchrotron radiation and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) that ensure results that are both exhaustive and representative of particular observations. This issue demonstrates the wealth of approaches possible in the study of the corrosion of ancient materials."

Book Corrosion and conservation of cultural heritage metallic artefacts

Download or read book Corrosion and conservation of cultural heritage metallic artefacts written by V. Argyropoulos and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter discusses the importance of using standards in conservation methodology and practice for cultural heritage (CH) metals. The past general trend in the field is the use of metal industry standards. The chapter surveys the relevant scientific publications, and concludes that conservation researchers use a variety of these standards adopted by different organisations. As a result, it can be difficult to compare scientific data for CH metal studies carried out by different laboratories. The chapter discusses the necessity to draft new standards for metals specific for CH by examining how three independent researchers had different findings when testing the same coating. The role of CEN/TC 346 ‘Conservation of Cultural Heritage’ is also discussed.

Book Corrosion and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Metallic Artefacts

Download or read book Corrosion and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Metallic Artefacts written by P Dillmann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conservation of metallic archaeological and historic artefacts is a major challenge whether they are ancient bronzes or relics of our more recent industrial past. Based on the work of Working Party 21 Corrosion of Archaeological and Historical Artefacts within the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), this important book summarises key recent research on analytical techniques, understanding corrosion processes and preventing the corrosion of cultural heritage metallic artefacts. After an introductory part on some of the key issues in this area, part two reviews the range of analytical techniques for measuring and analysing corrosion processes, including time resolved spectroelectrochemistry, voltammetry and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy. Part three reviews different types of corrosion processes for a range of artefacts, whilst part four discusses on-site monitoring techniques. The final part of the book summaries a range of conservation techniques and strategies to conserve cultural heritage metallic artefacts.Corrosion and conservation of cultural heritage metallic artefacts is an important reference for all those involved in archaeology and conservation, including governments, museums as well as those undertaking research in archaeology and corrosion science. - Summarises key research on analytical techniques for measuring and analysing corrosion processes - Provides detailed understanding of corrosion processes and corrosion prevention - Discusses on-site monitoring techniques

Download or read book GB T 41756 2022 Translated English of Chinese Standard GB T 41756 2022 GBT41756 2022 written by https://www.chinesestandard.net and published by https://www.chinesestandard.net. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document presents three methods for evaluating the atmospheric corrosion resistance of low-alloy steels. Method One is the prediction method based on short-term corrosion data of steel. Method Two is the prediction method based on the chemical composition of steel. Method Three is the prediction method based on environmental factors and steel chemical composition. Method One in this document applies to the use of existing short-term atmospheric corrosion data in different environments for specific grades of low alloy steel. Evaluate its long-term corrosion damage. Method Two is suitable for evaluating the relative corrosion resistance of low alloy steel based on the atmospheric corrosion resistance index (I). Method Three is suitable for estimating the corrosion loss of low alloy steel at different times in different environments. NOTE: These three methods are calculated based on the experimental data of flat bare steel exposed specimens. The actual atmospheric corrosion rate is much higher when the low alloy steel is kept wet for a long time or is severely attacked by some salts or other corrosive chemicals.

Book Plastics for Corrosion Inhibition

Download or read book Plastics for Corrosion Inhibition written by V.A. Goldade and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the key problems of failure-free operation of machinery is prevention of corrosion. The global scale of modern production makes this problem even more critical. At the beginning of the 21st century industrial contami- tion and the corrosion-active nature of the environment reached a level such that corrosive damage of materials became commensurate with their prod- tion volume and expenditure on anticorrosion protection of machines became comparable with investments in basic production. Anticorrosion techniques changed from being an auxiliary service to industrial enterprises into a dev- oping, scienti?cally intensive and generously ?nanced branch of production. Polymers occupy a very speci?c place amongst anticorrosion techniques. Polymers combine good chemical resistance with impermeability to di?- ent media and unusual deformation characteristics. The main principle of their application as anticorrosion means is the creation of a tight barrier that insulates metal machine parts or constructions from corrosion agents. The advantages of polymers allow the creation of such a barrier at minimal cost, providingprotectionoftheworkingmachinesfromcorrosion, combining their manufacture with preservation and decreasing the cost of anticorrosion. This is one of the main reasons why world production of polymer materials increased by almost 50% in the past decade.
