Download or read book Have We Lost Our Common Sense written by Bob Terrell and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We as a people of a proud and historic nation have watched as our economy was fractured badly during the 2001 period through 2009. The lust for big power and wealth has caused some leaders of government, business, and religion to have more ambition to achieve their own personal success than to care about those persons they are responsible in leading and protecting. Our political system has lost the ability or desire to have bi-partisan teamwork to make the quality of life better for our children and grandchildren. My goal is to get us to seek and find solutions to problems and not just whine and gripe among ourselves for self gain. I am a small town boy from Kentucky who was fortunate to get to go to college on a basketball scholarship. My college education may not have been possible without athletics. Three years as a young Marine Corps Officer gave me an opportunity to see life from another vantage point. Forty years as an Executive in the Auto Industry and an opportunity to live in eleven different states and one territory and raise a family of five gave me another good perspective on life. This book has been born from the memories and actual experiences I have enjoyed from relationships and friendships with many interesting personalities from Baseball Great Roberto Clemente to former Governor George Nigh of Oklahoma to many top executives in industry. I have seen the "Good, the Bad" and even the Ugly" of life. Fortunately I have seen so many good and kind people that the bad and the ugly have been overcome.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acclaimed author of Duel in the Sun, hailed as "a perfect golf time machine" by USA Today, takes readers into the bleachers and onto the playing field for an inside look at the legendary face-off between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. On Thanksgiving Day 1971, a record fifty-five million homes tuned in to watch two powerhouse college football teams collide. Defending national champion University of Nebraska was squaring off against the country's second-ranked team, the Oklahoma Sooners. The Huskers were riding a twenty-nine-game unbeaten streak; the Sooners had the number one offense in the country. Both teams were loaded with All-Americans and future NFL stars. The legend of the game that became known as the single finest ever played actually began a few years earlier in Texas, when coach Emory Bellard came up with an innovative plan of attack that would level defenses and give coaches sleepless nights for the next twenty years. The Texas wishbone offense became the talk of sporting America, and when Oklahoma coach Chuck Fairbanks adopted it for his team in 1970, the groundwork was laid for the epic confrontation with Nebraska. Combining a meticulously researched history of college football with in-depth interviews, author Michael Corcoran tells it all: the play-by-play strategies and techniques, the personalities of the players and coaches who conceived the plans and executed them, the formations and intricate blocking schemes that spelled victory or defeat. Highlights include: Heisman winner Johnny Rodgers's storied punt return, Rich Glover's incomparable twenty-two tackles, Oklahoma's furious comebacks each time they trailed in the game, and the poignant memories of the game after it was over. Nebraska radio play-by-play man Lyell Bremser echoed the nation when he proclaimed, "I never thought I would live this long to see this kind of a football game." Filled with vivid details and nail-biting suspense, this book takes us behind the scenes and into the rich history of this practically mythical battle. From the roots of both football teams, to the players, coaches, reporters, spectators, and fans, The Game of the Century is a story that will resonate with football fans all across America.

Download or read book The Spectrum of Sport Coaching Styles written by Shane Pill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, this book applies The Spectrum to sports coaching to become a Spectrum of Coaching Styles. The non-versus approach to pedagogy taken by The Spectrum places athletes or players at the centre of their learning and clearly defines who (player or coach) is making pedagogical decisions in each style. This clarity allows players and coaches to have their teaching behaviours and decision-making clearly defined, and it provides a common language for players, coaches and practitioners to talk about coaching styles and the expected outcomes. For coaches interested in the holistic development of the player/athlete, The Spectrum provides a detailed framework for achieving multiple learning outcomes through cognitive, social, physical, ethical, emotional and social development. Written by coaches for coaches, this book applies Spectrum theory in a coach-specific/friendly way to the following: Introduction to The Spectrum and the sport coach as educator; Summary and detailed description of the 11 coaching styles and their suitability to particular types of coaching episodes; Outlines of the strengths of each style with application examples; and Explanations of coaching to develop reflective practice, self-analysis and error correction, how to coach players to decide on appropriate practice levels or challenge points, player problem solving and solution generation ability. The Spectrum of Sport Coaching Styles is important reading for coaches, athletes, students and lecturers of sports coaching across any sport.
