Book excerpt: Asbury Park is one of the few true music scenes in the world. Many people know the city as the place where Bruce Springsteen got his start, but it's also where artists like Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Billy Chinnock, John Eddie, Glen Burtnick, Dramarama, The Bongos and The Smithereens started out as well. Beyond The Palace takes you on a ride through the city's long and illustrious music history; from the Upstage Club where musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Chinnock, David Sancious and Southside Johnny used to jam all night to early clubs like The Student Prince and Sunshine In; from the legendary Stone Pony to clubs like T-Birds Cafe and The Saint. The book contains interviews with over 45 artists and features over 50 photographs from the world-famous photographer Debra L. Rothenberg. Download or read book Nine Lives in the Air written by Lt Col Ed Henningson and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My inspiration for the name of this memoir is derived from the superstitious wives tale about cats having nine lives. The notion of that myth, while the origin is unknown to me, seemed to be a fitting title line. In the course of a 26 year career as an Air Force Pilot, there were the usual sorts of in-flight emergencies and associated difficulties. Yet there were still other life or death situations wherein it seemed things were entirely out of my control; it was if I was merely along for the ride as a spectator. Those events constitute the eight very distinct occasions wherein, but for the Grace of God and Divine Intervention, I believe it is most doubtful that I would still be around to author the memoirs embodied in this autobiography.

Download or read book To Live is to Fly written by Tizi Hodson and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2023-03-06 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is good: it’s a phrase I use all the time. Sometimes I’ve even said it when I’ve just crashed my motorbike, fallen with my horse, or had to make an emergency landing when flying an aircraft through thick cloud. I believe in seizing every opportunity that life offers you. That’s why, when I was on a motorcycle holiday in Germany and saw a fairground, I immediately signed up to become a Wall of Death rider. It’s why, when I was first at the solo controls of an aerobatic aircraft, I thought I’d try to loop-the-loop. It’s also why I accepted every job offer that came my way, whether it was as a stunt rider, saddlery maker or snake hunter. It’s how I’ve lived my life: I hope you enjoy reading about it.

Download or read book History Matters written by Michael Riis-Christianson and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2022-08-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Located in the geographic centre of British Columbia, the Lakes District is a unique region with a fascinating backstory. History Matters, the first book published by the Lakes District Museum Society in a half century, gives readers a glimpse into the lives of some of the heroes, villains, misfits, and everyday people who have in the past called this region home. In 2018, the Lakes District Museum Society began posting short stories and photographs about Burns Lake and surrounding communities on its social media page. This book is a compilation those posts, along with new material and never-before-seen photographs gleaned from the society’s archives. Want to know how an employee of the Yukon Telegraph spent his time? What was a tie-hacker’s life like? How did an unknown skier from Burns Lake make it to the 1932 Olympic Winter Games, and a man many feel was the real-life James Bond come to live in Colleymount? History Matters answers these and other important questions. In addition to touching and sometimes humorous tales of life in the Lakes District, readers of this book will encounter thrilling stories of murder, adventure, international intrigue, and even the supernatural. This collection is a valuable contribution to the community’s history, and one that will fascinate anyone interested in the area, its past, or the European colonization of Western Canada.
