Download or read book Do Less written by Kate Northrup and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical and spiritual guide for working moms to learn how to have more by doing less. This is a book for working women and mothers who are ready to release the culturally inherited belief that their worth is equal to their productivity, and instead create a personal and professional life that's based on presence, meaning, and joy. As opposed to focusing on "fitting it all in," time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do, this book embraces the notion that through doing less women can have--and be--more. The addiction to busyness and the obsession with always trying to do more leads women, especially working mothers, to feel like they're always failing their families, their careers, their spouses, and themselves. This book will give women the permission and tools to change the way they approach their lives and allow them to embrace living in tune with the cyclical nature of the feminine, cutting out the extraneous busyness from their lives so they have more satisfaction and joy, and letting themselves be more often instead of doing all the time. Do Less offers the reader a series of 14 experiments to try to see what would happen if she did less in one specific way. So, rather than approaching doing less as an entire life overhaul (which is overwhelming in and of itself), this book gives the reader bite-sized steps to try incorporating over 2 weeks!
Download or read book The Moon Book written by Sarah Faith Gottesdiener and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to conscious living through the moon and her phases, incorporating wellness rituals, spellwork, and witchcraft for the modern seeker. We all know the moon. We all have a relationship with it. The earliest people obeyed her orbit, timed their months and holidays and celebrations and agriculture to the moon; the echoes of that system are still visible today, though the connection to the moon is often forgotten. Sarah Faith Gottesdiener is the leader of a movement to remind us of that lineage, guiding our rhythms and our sleep, our energy and our emotions, reminding us of our humanity and our magic. In her self-published Many Moons Workbooks and Lunar Journals, as well as her sold-out classes, she has guided over 50,000 readers to a deeper relationship with the moon, and through it, with themselves. This evergreen book will be an informative and comprehensive guide to lunar living, incorporating radical, self-empowering, and magical tools and resources for the beginner and experienced lunar-follower alike. Depending on where we are in our lives, depending on what we are feeling or what is happening around us, the moon allows us a space to invite ritual into our daily lives. The Moon Book will provide a framework on how to utilize the entire lunar cycle holistically, while offering ways for the reader to develop a personal relationship with their own cycles—energetic, personal, and emotional—through the lens of the moon’s phases.

Download or read book Classical Chinese Medicine written by Keekok Lee and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-26 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume completes a trilogy (Lee, 2012, 2017) on the philosophy of medicine, Western and Chinese. Its immediate prequel (Lee, 2017) sets out in general outline the philosophical and methodological core of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM); this volume fleshes out that “skeleton” by examining in detail its peculiar concepts and characteristics, such as Getihua/Personalised Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Tianren-xiangying (Macro-Micro-cosmic Wholism), Zhèng-Fang Wholism (Wholism at the level of diagnosis and treatment), and Mind-Body Wholism (the person as primitive concept). CCM is here shown to instantiate “ecosystem science”, which is post-Newtonian in orientation, departing from familiar Newtonian landmarks such as Reductionism and linearity, resting on thing-ontology for a non-reductionist, non-linear science. This approach highlights a rich irony and paradox: namely, how CCM in being backward-looking (relying on classical texts as foundational texts and prescriptions of some two thousand years standing) simultaneously manages to be at the cutting edge of scientific thinking today.

Book excerpt: Dark, moving and original, a story of family, survival, and getting on with life... Flynn Sinclair understands pack loyalty – for years as his Alpha father's enforcer, he has done things in the name of duty that he can't ever forget. But the vast expanse of Alaska offers him a peace he's never known. Alone, removed from pack life, he can focus on his research and try to forget his life before. But duty has a way of inviting itself in, and Flynn finds himself doing two reckless things in one week: leaving the safety of Alaska to save his brother Connor's life, and unwittingly falling in love with Evie Thompson, a woman who doesn't deserve to be drawn into his terrifying world. Connor carries news of their father's descent into madness, and it looks like neither geography nor Flynn's attempts at disengagement will put off a confrontation. Flynn had finally begun to believe that he might deserve something good in his life – something like Evie – but to move forward in the light, he must first reconcile with the dark.

Download or read book Intrinsic Clocks written by Timo Partonen and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Intrinsic Clocks" presents an array of current research activities on intrinsic clocks and their contributions to biology and physiology. It elucidates the current models for the intrinsic clocks, their molecular components and key mechanisms as well as the key brain regions and animal models for their behavioral analysis. It provides a timely view on how these clocks guide behavior, and how their disruption may cause depressive-like behavior and impairment in cognitive functions. Thereby, any specific method by which the mood-related functions of the intrinsic clocks might be influenced bears therapeutic potential and has clinical interest. The importance of some of these mechanisms was highlighted by the 2017 award of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael W. Young for their discoveries of the genetic control of the daily biological rhythm. The key to the explanation was the discovery of transcription-translation feedback loops of the so-called “clock genes.”
Download or read book Women in Different Physique written by Nurazzura Mohamad Diah and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's bodies often change as they face hormone depletion, menarche, pregnancy, menopause and ageing – and only women experience them. Talking about women’s bodily changes is most definitely a challenging topic because women considered the changes as private matters and some dealt with in silence. To unravel the complexity of the topic, this book brings readers to the real stories of women who struggle with their bodily changes, how it is understood and comprehend by many. It compiles several themes related to women's issues written by academics from the field of medicine and social sciences. The increasingly pervasive influence of Western perceptions of youth, femininity and sexuality, together with the increasing adoption of biomedical treatments have altered cultural understandings of women’s bodies.

Download or read book The Origins of Self written by Martin P. J. Edwardes and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2019-07-22 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Origins of Self explores the role that selfhood plays in defining human society, and each human individual in that society. It considers the genetic and cultural origins of self, the role that self plays in socialisation and language, and the types of self we generate in our individual journeys to and through adulthood. Edwardes argues that other awareness is a relatively early evolutionary development, present throughout the primate clade and perhaps beyond, but self-awareness is a product of the sharing of social models, something only humans appear to do. The self of which we are aware is not something innate within us, it is a model of our self produced as a response to the models of us offered to us by other people. Edwardes proposes that human construction of selfhood involves seven different types of self. All but one of them are internally generated models, and the only non-model, the actual self, is completely hidden from conscious awareness. We rely on others to tell us about our self, and even to let us know we are a self.
Download or read book Beyond Beauty written by Alexandra Villarroel Abrego and published by SelectBooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Beyond Beauty? The author’s ambition is to persuade all women, but especially younger women, to reach beyond goals of to realize the power of our inner beauty to overcome the limits society places on us. Gen-Y women face a terrible predicament of maturing in a world where media bombards us with information and images that distort our perception of the meaning of beauty, self-confidence, and self-love. If we misunderstand our reality, we can easily turn to outmoded cultural paradigms that convince us that we must behave like men to be valuable to society, or that our hair or waistline determines our success, or that finding the right man is the key to happiness. As a millennial, Ms. Abrego believes modern women must learn to look beyond their physical selves and search for a deeper purpose for life and existence. She aims to take us on a journey of self-awakening to become our best self and unleash our feminine power to follow our dreams of a good life. Beyond Beauty is designed to facilitate and encourage women of this generation to improve every aspect of their lives, starting with their own selves. The message of Beyond Beauty is needed more than ever. The author can inspire and empower the women of Generation Y to want more, to be more, and live “beyond beauty.”

The book describes how periodic fasting can benefit people suffering from obesity, menstrual disorders and several autoimmune diseases. Medical Understanding of Yoga states that several yogic techniques like Pranayama, Nauli-kriya and Agni-sara offer several benefits through brief intermittent hypoxia, such as increasing Nitric Oxide production, generation of collateral vessels in ischemic areas and facilitating stem-cell trafficking. Chapters in this book discuss the positive role of air in the gastrointestinal tract, in inhibiting the causative organism of peptic ulcer, contributing to satiety and uplifting mood; and also helping release of factors that prolong life of insulin-secreting beta cells and facilitate their regeneration. This book reveals that breath-holding beyond comfort zone switches on non-shivering thermogenesis. Activation of parasympathetic nervous system by nose-gazing, by Aunkar japa and some other techniques and that of sympathetic nervous system through mulabandha which bring about favorable changes in heart rate and blood pressure have also been discussed. A new twist has been given to the understanding of the well-known Suryanamaskara which, according to the author, is not a physical exercise but a great technique to fill the intestines with air, which can enable one to reduce food intake without getting the usual cravings and also inhibit several intestinal pathogens. One can even bloat oneself to buoyancy and stay afloat on waters of immeasurable depth. The secret air-drinking yogic technique has been revealed in this book. Download or read book The African Mother Tongue and Mathematical Ideas written by Abdul Karim Bangura and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by renowned scholar Dr Abdul Karim Bangura combines linguistics and mathematics to show how and why African-centred mathematical ideas can be a driving force in Africa’s development efforts. Bangura explores the concept that Africa has been the centre of the History of Mathematics for thousands of years, as the civilizations that emerged across the continent developed contributions which would enrich both ancient and modern understanding of nature through mathematics. However, scholars and other professionals working in the field of mathematics education in Africa have identified a plethora of issues in carrying out their tasks. This is highlighted by one of the most compelling arguments in the book, which is that a major reason for these problems is the fact that the African mother tongues has been greatly neglected in the teaching of mathematics in the continent. Bangura asserts that a change has to be made in order for Africa to benefit from the exceptional opportunities mathematics offer, showing that, even if there is a great body of work connecting linguistics and mathematics, few analyses have been performed on the link between African languages and mathematics—and the ones that have been made are not theoretically-grounded on linguistics. Thus, the book begins by identifying the objects of study of linguistics and mathematics, and delineates which ones they have in common. Next, since the object of study of linguistics is language, the nine design features of language are employed to examine each of the objects as it pertains to African languages. After that, mathematical ideas of sustainability and those of tipping points are suggested as means to help Africa’s development efforts.

Download or read book Chronobiology of Marine Organisms written by Ernest Naylor and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-02-04 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do intertidal organisms simply respond to the rise and fall of tides, or do they possess biological timing and navigation mechanisms that allow them to anticipate when conditions are most favourable? How are the patterns of growth, development and reproduction of some marine plants and animals related to changes in day-length or to phases of the moon? The author describes how marine organisms, from single cells to vertebrates, on sea shores, in estuaries and in the open ocean, have evolved inbuilt biological clockwork and synchronisation mechanisms which control rhythmic processes and navigational behaviour, permitting successful exploitation of highly variable and often hostile environments. Adopting a hypothesis-testing and experimental approach, the book is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students of marine biology, marine ecology, animal behaviour, oceanography and other biological sciences and also as an introduction for researchers, including physiologists, biochemists and molecular biologists entering the field of chronobiology.
