La exhortación consta de tres partes: - La primera parte se titula Verbum Dei y en ella el Papa nos habla del papel fundamental de Dios Padre como fuente y origen de la Palabra. - La segunda parte se titula "Verbum in Ecclesia" y en ella se pone en relación la Palabra y la Iglesia. - La tercera parte, titulada "Verbum mundo", nos habla del deber que tenemos todos los cristianos de anunciar la Palabra de Dios en el mundo en el que vivimos y trabajamos.
