Download or read book Memories of Yesteryears written by Carolyn Hambrick Hatcher and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-10-26 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early morning rain had stopped and a cool mist shrouded the lonesome mountainside. The smell was fresh and invigorating to me as I stood beside the old hickory tree with its new leaves, an iridescent bright green, glowing against the dreary gray sky. I stood quietly and watched a lone eagle soar above, looking for an unsuspecting prey hidden in the overgrown weeds in the long neglected fields. I had stayed away too long, now, I wanted to return to the source of my childhood.

Mashburn, Ralph Milne Farley, Seabury Quinn, Hugh Rankin, Robert Spencer Carr, Barsoom Badigian, Harry Olmstead, Albert Richard Wetjen, Norbert W. Davis, Milo Ray Phelps, William S. Hoffman Price kept diaries of his visits, which from time to time he transformed into essays recalling the grand old days of the fictioneer's precarious way of life. Several essays were previously published in fanzines and as Arkham House book introductions. In 1977, Price rewrote these and added additional essays to fill a book. This is one of the most fascinating and historically important books about the pulp fiction era.

Download or read book Memory and Hope written by Alon Goshen-Gottstein and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-08 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tackles the core problem of how painful historical memories between diverse religious communities continue to impact—even poison—present-day relations. Its operative notion is the healing of memory, developed by John Paul II. Chapters explore how painful memories of yesteryear can be healed and so address some of the root causes. Strategies from six different faith traditions are brought together in what is, in some ways, a cross-religious brainstorming session that identifies tools to improve present-day relations. At the other pole of the conceptual axis of this book is the notion of hope. If memory informs our past, hope sets the horizon for our future. How does the healing of memory open new horizons for the future? And what is the notion of hope in each of our traditions that could lead to a common vision of good? Between memory and hope, this book seeks to offer a vision of healing that can serve as a resource in contemporary interfaith relations. Contributors: Rahuldeep Singh Gill, Alon Goshen-Gottstein, Maria Reis Habito, Flora A. Keshgegian, Anantanand Rambachan, Meir Sendor, Muhammad Suheyl Umar, and Michael von Brück

We all have memories of long-ago Christmases locked away in our hearts. This book explores—with vibrant period art, surprising facts, and excerpts from letters, diaries, and magazines through the decades—what the holiday was like from the 1920s through the 1960s. She chronicles the gifts, activities, fads, and fancies that made each Christmas unique; indulges in fantasy shopping at yesterday’s prices; shares thoughts from letters, diaries, and magazines of the era; and makes the past come to life with vibrant period art that lets you revel in the irresistible nostalgia of Christmas memories.

Download or read book The Snows of Yesteryear written by Gregor Von Rezzori and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2012-08-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gregor von Rezzori was born in Czernowitz, a onetime provincial capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that was later to be absorbed successively into Romania, the USSR, and the Ukraine—a town that was everywhere and nowhere, with a population of astonishing diversity. Growing up after World War I and the collapse of the empire, Rezzori lived in a twilit world suspended between the formalities of the old nineteenth-century order which had shaped his aristocratic parents and the innovations, uncertainties, and raw terror of the new century. The haunted atmosphere of this dying world is beautifully rendered in the pages of The Snows of Yesteryear. The book is a series of portraits—amused, fond, sometimes appalling—of Rezzori’s family: his hysterical and histrionic mother, disappointed by marriage, destructively obsessed with her children’s health and breeding; his father, a flinty reactionary, whose only real love was hunting; his haughty older sister, fated to die before thirty; his earthy nursemaid, who introduced Rezzori to the power of storytelling and the inevitability of death; and a beloved governess, Bunchy. Telling their stories, Rezzori tells his own, holding his early life to the light like a crystal until it shines for us with a prismatic brilliance.
Download or read book My Book of Bible Poems written by Sandra R. Reynolds and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-09-16 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book was written with love, each poem has a reason, and each reason for me is personal. Poetry becomes very private almost like reading someone's diary, an open book that looks into the poet's heart. No other way to write, because each person goes away with his own interpretation. Whereas, The Bible has only one way to interpret it. My book are my feelings not my interpretation of God's word. I'll leave any and all interpretation alone. Sometimes poetry turns people off, maybe like me, you were forced to read it in school. I was not a lover of Shakespeare, but I've grown to appreciate all kinds of literature. I have my favorite poets Robert Frost, Pablo Neruda, and Khalil Gibran. I enjoy reading and imitating their style of writing. I keep trying to find the words to my masterpiece... the sonnet that personifies love. My illusive butterfly that flies from flower to flower, its an illusion, but keeps my mind active.
