Everything that has happen to us since birth has made us who we are today. Embracing a wide variety of subjects, Everyday Use thrives to show you human behavior and the social environment in narrative verse. The author, Donna Reed, describes the challenges we face in our daily walk, our strengths and weaknesses as human beings, the importance of family and friends, and how sexuality, ideology, and faith are a part of our lives. She encourages us to embrace change because life is essentially a learning experience. By doing so, we are afforded a different perspective, thus allowing us to think more clearly about difficult or perplexing events and emotions. This collection spans over many years and it narrates incidents, experiences, people, and things that have touched the authors heart. In each verse, you will find the voice of a soul that feels the effects of every moment in this life and the voice of a mind that needs to make sense of this world. Download or read book Down Mason City s Memory Lane written by Dale C. Fancher and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mason City, Illinois, a tiny rural community in the heart of the Midwest, is the setting for Dale Fancher's book of reflections and memories of a day gone by. A lifelong resident of Mason City, Fancher has a keen mind, and a heart for the quaint, easily lost memories of youth: From bathing in a galvanized washtub, to trailing behind the ice-delivery truck to beg shards of ice on a hot day; from fishing at Salt Creek at night and listening to the bobcats, to World War II blackouts. Reading Fancher's book, one becomes familiar with local characters like Kenny Hanover, still barbering after fifty years, and Edna Sylvie, the barefoot taxi lady. Told as a series of "Remember when .?" and "Did you ever .?" snippets, reading this book is like flipping through an old family photo album.

Download or read book George Boyle White surveyor colonial citizen diarist written by Les Dalton and published by Les Dalton. This book was released on 2014-07-03 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dedicated diarist, White compiled a detailed account of colonial life in the Hunter Valley away from its hub in Sydney. In the privacy of his diary, where ‘an opinion could be given without incurring censure’, commentaries on other colonials could be harsh, while casting himself as imposed upon by family and friends. A nervous public speaker he could, when aroused, write an abrasive letter or stir public controversy. He was fond of reading the classics, filled notebooks with quotations and quoted them in his diaries. Feeling isolated in the antipodes he followed closely news of world events. Perhaps he can best be thought of as a thwarted intellectual living in a colonial backwater. Elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1858, he chaired an inquiry with significant outcomes for land settlement. He was, said a contemporary, not only a historian, and an eyewitness, but “a prominent actor in the parts he recorded”.
