Download or read book Concordia Ecclesiae written by Ragnar Andersen and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2016 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working with a wide range of relevant sources, this book contributes to the discussion of Philipp Melanchthon's profile as an academic and political agent, as a theologian and negotiator, particularly during the Diet of Augsburg 1530. The study provides a background for a historical reading and interpretation of the Augsburg Confession. In addition to considerably enhancing our knowledge of Melanchton's work in a particularly decisive time of the Reformation, Andersen has also chosen a topic of undisputable systematic theological and ecumenical relevance.--Professor Knut Alfsvg, School of Mission Ã?Â?and Theology, Stavanger, Norway. Ragnar Andersen is an Evangelical-Lutheran pastor. Download or read book Archaeology and Architecture of the Military Orders written by Mathias Piana and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As elite communities in medieval societies the Military Orders were driven by the ambition to develop built environments that fulfilled monastic needs as well as military requirements and, in addition, residential and representational purposes. Growing affluence and an international orientation provided a wide range of development potential. That this potential was in fact exploited may be exemplified by the advanced fortifications erected by Templars and Hospitallers in the Levant. Although the history of the Military Orders has been the subject of research for a long time, their material legacy has attracted less attention. In recent years, however, a vast range of topics concerning the Orders’ building activities has become the object of investigation, primarily with the help of archaeology. They comprise the choice of sites and building materials, provision and storage of food and water, aspects of the daily life, the design and layout of commanderies, churches and fortifications, their spatial arrangement, and the role these buildings played in their environmental context. This volume contains ten articles discussing the archaeology and architecture of buildings erected by the three major Military Orders in different geographical regions. They cover most countries of Western Europe and include a number of important fortifications in the Levant. These studies break new ground in the investigation of the built fabric of the Military Orders. Written by noted international scholars this publication is an important contribution to modern research on these institutions, which, in their association of monasticism and knighthood, were so typical for the Middle Ages.
Download or read book The Teutonic Order in Italy 1190 1525 written by Kristjan Toomaspoeg and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1190 and 1525, the Teutonic Order (the third major military religious order after the Temple and the Hospital) maintained extensive possessions in Italy. This volume examines the history of the Order’s Italian branch, arguing that it served as an intermediary between East and West, as well as North and South. It reflects on the reasons for the Teutonic Order’s success and the persistence of its settlement, particularly its ability to adapt to various and changing political and economic contexts, and its talent in garnering the support of the local population. Not only focusing on political, diplomatic, economic and religious history but also considering the history of art and architecture, spirituality, prosopography and everyday life, this book portrays the Teutonic Order in Italy as an example of medieval coexistence, collaboration and crossing borders. This book will a useful study for scholars interested in Medieval Italy, cross-cultural history and the military religious orders of the medieval period.
