Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kama's Flowers documents the transformation of Hindi poetry during the crucial period of 1885-1925. As Hindi was becoming a national language and Indian nationalism was emerging, Hindi authors articulated a North Indian version of modernity by reenvisioning nature. While their writing has previously been seen as an imitation of European Romanticism, Valerie Ritter shows its unique and particular function in North India. Description of the natural world recalled traditional poetics, particularly erotic and devotional poetics, but was now used to address sociopolitical concerns, as authors created literature to advocate for a "national character" and to address a growing audience of female readers. Examining Hindi classics, translations from English poetry, literary criticism, and little-known popular works, Ritter combines translations with fresh literary analysis to show the pivotal role of nature in how modernity was understood. Bringing a new body of literature to English-language readers, Kama's Flowers also reveals the origins of an influential visual culture that resonates today in Bollywood cinema.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Ellen Adkins and my book, Story Through Time is a science fiction story. The central character, Amy, lives in the 16th century with her step sister Meg and her stepfather Frank. Amy and Meg were treated badly by Frank but Amy had special gifts that could help her and Meg against him, and living in the sixteenth century, she had many friends including her dear friend King Louis who helped them so much. Amy was very strong for a woman and had often wondered about this. She dreamed of the stars and places and people that she didn't recall. Then one day Amy was approached by strangers; people in strange uniforms who offered to take her back home to the 27th century. After going home, she proved herself as 'The Gifted One', to save her father's planet from destruction. Then, having saved the planet, she was given her own space craft and crew to explore the galaxy and go to strange places in other times. Amy and her crew went on spectacular adventures where they met new people who became great friends. One adventure is to the Titanic just before its sinking, to try and save the log book. My editor David (a former publisher and science fiction addict) recommended my book as 'something different and highly entertaining, and said “Features such as the 'Dreaming Room' enable realistic fantasy to entertain and beguile”. Most of all my story is about being able to live our lives as friends in whatever time, place or dimension. It's about uniting us all as one. What a great world we'd live in if that was so. Cheers Ellen Adkins
