Reminiscent of African and religious ceremonial costumes as well as high fashion, they are made using scavenged ordinary materials such as fabrics, beads, buttons, sequins, old bottle caps, rusted iron sticks, twigs, leaves and hair, that Cave re-contextualizes into visionary masterpieces. He explores issues of transformation, ritual, myth and identity.

Book excerpt: Poetry. Women's Studies. Eroticism tinged with elegy, gratitude knit with doubt; MEET ME HERE AT DAWN contains an unmistakably open voice. Sophie Klahr's debut poetry collection careens from hunger to hunger. With lyric energy and narrative determination, the poems are missives sent back from a threshold, chronicling disease, the unspoken pains of family, the fabric of an extra-marital affair. "What aperture makes a woman?" Klahr asks in "One Slaughter." In MEET ME HERE AT DAWN, even the unanswerable is unfaltering, every question brightly wrought and necessary. "Sophie Klahr moves through the chambers of the mind and heart like an expert escape artist, keys hidden in the body's coverts are revealed in a 'rush of knowing, ' the body's 'first breaking and entering' that feels both clandestine and disclosive. This is poetry of immense vulnerability and fierce mettle; determined, convincing and heroically alive with courage of every kind."--D.A. Powell

But it’s the same every year—in between cookouts and boat rides and family-imposed bonfires, Sidney and Asher spend the dog days of summer finding the ultimate ways to prank each other. And now, after their senior year, they’re determined to make it the most epic yet. But their plans are thrown in sudden jeopardy when their feud causes their families to be kicked out of their beloved lake houses. Once in their new accommodations, Sidney expects the prank war to continue as usual. But then she gets a note—Meet me at midnight. And Asher has a proposition for her: join forces for one last summer of epic pranks, against a shared enemy—the woman who kicked them out. Their truce should make things simpler, but six years of tormenting one another isn’t so easy to ignore. Kind of like the undeniable attraction growing between them. Book Living with God

Download or read book Living with God written by K. L. N. Swami and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an attempt to let the world know that God has left His Foot Prints for the posterity to look behind and people who didnt find an opportunity to meet Him or see Him may still feel His Presence and receive His Blessings by joining any Sai Centre anywhere in the world. I have seen Swami the Divine, camouflaged as an ordinary human being moving with us, talking to us and eating with us. It is a nice feeling to relive my personal contacts with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Who has shown Himself in His Divine Form in resplendence to a few fortunate souls. I titled this book Living With GOD because I have that feeling of possessiveness when in His abundant Mercy admitted me into His Fold when He used to tell me We Are One Family. That has sustained me for decades keeping me fresh and vibrant.

Book Meet Me in Venice

Book excerpt: When Ye Pei dreamed of Venice as a girl, she imagined a magical floating city of canals and gondola rides. And she imagined her mother, successful in her new life and eager to embrace the daughter she had never forgotten. But when Ye Pei arrives in Italy, she learns her mother works on a farm far from the city. Her only connection, a mean-spirited Chinese auntie, puts Ye Pei to work in a small-town café. Rather than giving up and returning to China, a determined Ye Pei takes on a grueling schedule, resolving to save enough money to provide her family with a better future. A groundbreaking work of journalism, Meet Me in Venice provides a personal, intimate account of Chinese individuals in the very act ofmigration. Suzanne Ma spent years in China and Europe to understand why Chinese people choose to immigrate to nations where they endure hardship, suspicion, manual labor and separation from their loved ones. Today all eyes are on China and its explosive economic growth. With the rise of the Chinese middle class, Chinese communities around the world are growing in size and prosperity, a development many westerners find unsettling and even threatening. Following Ye Pei’s undaunted path, this inspiring book is an engrossing read for those eager to understand contemporary China and the enormous impact of Chinese emigrants around the world.
