Book excerpt: The National Coordination Center of Provincial Meditation Institutes of Thailand was established with the commitment of Directors from 338 Meditation Centers (out of over 400) invited by the National Buddhism Organization to a conference at Wat Yannawa, Bangkok, April 23-25, B.E. 2551 (2008). There were fi ve objectives. Three were established at the conference and the last two were added later. 1. To cooperate with the Chiefs of the Sangha Regions and Directors of the Provincial Meditation Centers to raise academic training techniques to the same high standard. 5. To support the Sangha in stabilizing, protecting and developing Buddhism under the rules of the Discipline, the Law and the Sangha Rules. The committee members agreed to publish A Study Guide for Samatha-Vipassanā Meditation based on the Five Meditation Techniques, as a book. Those fi ve techniques are the Triple Gem Meditation (buddho), Mindfulness of Breathing (ānāpānasati), Rising-Falling (infl ating-contracting), Mind (nāma) and Body (rūpa), and Dhammakaya Meditation (sammā arahang). The purposes for this publication were for disseminating the Right Dhamma Practice to the directors and meditation masters of Meditation Centers across Thailand and Buddhists worldwide who study and practice the Right Practice of Lord Buddha, and, most importantly, for all meditators independently practicing any one of these based on one’s own temperament. The book has been translated by Phra Maha Natpakanan Gunanggaro, and edited by Phra Maha Wannapong Wannavanso, David Dale Holmes, Eunice E. Cerezo, Mr. Sakrapan Eamegdool, Mr. Watcharapol Daengsubha, and Ms. Jessica Dawn Ogden. Please address any questions or comments to www.dhammacenter.org. I would like to thank everyone for their strenuous efforts and to congratulate them on this successful contribution to the promulgation of the Dhamma. Book Passage Meditation

Download or read book Passage Meditation written by Eknath Easwaran and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pioneered by spiritual master Eknath Easwaran, passage meditation consists of memorizing an inspirational spiritual passage and then sending it deep into consciousness through slow, sustained attention. It keeps meditation fresh and varied because readers can select the passages - from one tradition or many - that embody their chosen ideals. Many readers also enjoy the passages for their poetic and intellectual appeal. This form of meditation offers all the richness and depth of traditional wisdom, together with a practical method for bringing that wisdom into daily life. The book situates passage meditation as part of Easwaran's eight-point program that, based on traditional spiritual practices but adjusted for modern lifestyles, shows readers how to stay calm and focused at work and home. This edition includes a new preface of previously unpublished material by Easwaran and an epilogue that explains the story behind the book and invites new readers to join the author on this adventure in the ''world within.''

Book Meditation 101

Download or read book Meditation 101 written by Amie Hill and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-10 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back in 1968, after a friend gave me a few basic instructions on how to begin meditating, it wasn't long before I realized that I was seriously in need of more information on the subject; thus began for me a lifelong informal investigation into the planet's numerous meditation traditions. Because I'm a practical person (and one for whom "because I said so" has never been enough of an answer), I soon discovered that it was important for me to examine the "why" behind those traditions—the physiology, psychology and purpose of sitting in meditation; its relationship between physical and mental experience; therelationship of each meditation technique to the spiritual tradition which taught it; the relationship of meditation to "real life." Along the way, I encountered some remarkable teachers and writings, and every time I found a tidbit of learning (whether from actual experience, from the words or actions of a teacher or from a specific text) which created an "aha!" moment of clarity and discovery for me, I made a note of it to share and compare with other meditators. What I've put into this book is the cream of those practical suggestions, useful quotes, clarifying metaphors and relevant bits of scientific information—things which have not only helped me stick to a meditation practice through thick and thin for over 30 years, but have shown me (and others) the way to real moments of understanding. This is the book I wish someone had given me all those years ago!

Book excerpt: This book is not written to reinvent the wheel and offer up just another introduction to Buddhism. This has a fresh approach of Buddhism which does not stir up dust in areas that most people have not thought of. There are Buddhist teachers who would discuss things privately such as Buddhist views on UFOs, Adolf Hitler and the historical Jesus, but they would not give public talks or publish books on such controversal subjects. The author has the courage to do so as he bodly discusses such topics in this book.
