Book A Second Generation PACS Concept

Download or read book A Second Generation PACS Concept written by Michel Osteaux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term picture archiving and communications system (PACS) was initiated during the first International conference and workshop on the topic sponsored by The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) in Newport Beach, California in 1982. The research and development (R&D) progress for PACS has been slow until 1988. The earlier PACS modules were mostly off the shelf components connected together to solve a very specific clinical problem. The three major players in PACS R&D are the European countries, United States of America, and Japan. For various reasons, the European coun tries concentrated in modeling and simulation, U.S.A. pre ferred in-house development or purchased PACS modules from a manufacturer, whereas Japan organized the PACS as a national project. Between 1989 and 1990 PACS R&D took a dramatic positive turn. Large scale P ACS projects were planned and some are of implementation, especially in newly con at various stages structed hospitals. Examples are the Hokkaido University, Japan; Hammersmith Hospital, United Kingdom; Social and Medical Center East (SMZO), Vienna, Austria; the U.S. Armed Force Medical Diagnostic Imaging Support (MDIS) project; and the UCLA Medical Plaza ambulatory care center. Another phenomenon is the organization of the EC-countries which provides a tremendous impetus for the European PACS R&D efforts. This book "Hospital Integrated Picture Archiving and Communication Systems: edited by Professor M. Osteaux and others is a direct product from these efforts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computed radiography is one of the most promising digital radiography techniques, and is expected to replace the conventional screen film radiography in the near future. This book is the first textbook on computed radiography written by Japanese authors and describes basic technologies and clinical results obtained at various hospitals. There are more than 60 CR systems working in clinical environments in Japan. However, as yet there are not so many systems working outside Japan. This book is, therefore, a good introduction to the new technology and practice of the CR system all over the world.

Book Integrated Diagnostic Imaging

Download or read book Integrated Diagnostic Imaging written by Johannes Petrus Joseph de Valk and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much work, although often fragmentary, has been published by professionals on PACS (picture archiving and communication systems) related issues. This book, however, is unique in its field, providing medical professionals in particular with a state-of-the-art overview of this system. Covering the USA, Western Europe and Japan, it gives an outline of the history, status and future of (digital) medical image handling in the hospital environment during the final two decades of this century (as perceived and experienced by professionals working in this particular field of medicine). It comprises case studies from around the world and, with most of these studies belonging to highly specialized subtopics of the medical imaging area, they provide a good insight into the complexity and problems of the total field. Hence this volume will be invaluable to those in the medical profession, and specifically those with a clear technical interest in medical imaging for daily use in a hospital environment.

Book Medical Images Formation Handling and Evaluation

Download or read book Medical Images Formation Handling and Evaluation written by Andrew E. Todd-Pokropek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical imaging is a very important area in diagnostic (and increasingly therapeutic) medicine. Many new techniques are being developed or extended which depend on digital methods. Although conventional x-radiographs still comprise the bulk of the medical images acquired in a hospital, digital methods such as computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are now often claimed to have a more significant clinical impact. This book is concerned with three aspects of such digital images: their formation, or how they can be acquired; their handling, or how they may be manipulated to increase their clinical value; and their evaluation, or how their impact and value may be assessed. The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 comprises a series of reviews in the general subject area written by authorities in the field. Part 2 includes papers on theoretical aspects: 3D images, reconstruction, perception, and image processing. Part 3includes papers on applications in nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance, andradiology.

Download or read book 3D Imaging in Medicine written by Karl H. Höhne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The visualization of human anatomy for diagnostic, therapeutic, and educational pur poses has long been a challenge for scientists and artists. In vivo medical imaging could not be introduced until the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad ROntgen in 1895. With the early medical imaging techniques which are still in use today, the three-dimensional reality of the human body can only be visualized in two-dimensional projections or cross-sections. Recently, biomedical engineering and computer science have begun to offer the potential of producing natural three-dimensional views of the human anatomy of living subjects. For a broad application of such technology, many scientific and engineering problems still have to be solved. In order to stimulate progress, the NATO Advanced Research Workshop in Travemiinde, West Germany, from June 25 to 29 was organized. It brought together approximately 50 experts in 3D-medical imaging from allover the world. Among the list of topics image acquisition was addressed first, since its quality decisively influences the quality of the 3D-images. For 3D-image generation - in distinction to 2D imaging - a decision has to be made as to which objects contained in the data set are to be visualized. Therefore special emphasis was laid on methods of object definition. For the final visualization of the segmented objects a large variety of visualization algorithms have been proposed in the past. The meeting assessed these techniques.
