As in telligent Observers of the fact that all progress in medicine and sur gery has been made in the fields afforded by hospitals and through the application of scientific researches and faithfully recorded clinical Observations, they may be said to realize that a hospital is a seat of learning as much as any college or school of technology, and is really a part of a university system, inasmuch as its wards contain the material for elucidating the acquisition and illustrating the possibilities Of the healing art. The doors Of the sun room and elevator were too narrow for the passage of adult beds, SO it resulted that this treatment was limited to children. Cribs on wheels, rolling stretchers, wheel-chairs and carrying in arms, were the available means of transportation. The eastern Side of the sun-room, aided by a glass and wooden screen on the north Side, furnished such protection that even in snow-storms of the following early winter the children were taken for Six hours to the roof. This daily airing Of the patients was found to be rather more beneficial than the most sanguine had expected.
