Book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials written by Dominique François and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing new structural materials, extending lifetimes and guarding against fracture in service are among the preoccupations of engineers, and to deal with these they need to have command of the mechanics of material behaviour. The first volume of this two-volume work deals with elastic and elastoplastic behaviour; this second volume continues with viscoelasticity, damage, fracture (resistance to cracking) and contact mechanics. As in Volume I, the treatment starts from the active mechanisms on the microscopic scale and develops the laws of macroscopic behaviour. Chapter I deals with viscoplastic behaviour, as shown, for example, at low temperatures by the effects of oscillatory loads and at high temperatures by creep under steady load. Chapter 2 treats damage phenomena encountered in all materials - for example, metals, polymers, glasses, concretes - such as cavitation, fatigue and stress-corrosion cracking. Chapter 3 treats those concepts of fracture mechanics that are needed for the understanding of resistance to cracking and Chapter 4 completes the volume with a survey of the main concepts of contact mechanics. As with Volume I, each chapter has a set of exercises, either with solutions or with indications of how to attack the problem; and there are many explanatory diagrams and other illustrations.

Book Mechanical Properties of Cementitious Materials at Microscale

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Cementitious Materials at Microscale written by Ya Wei and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-14 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides information on characterizing the microstructure and mechanical properties of cementitious materials at microscale. Specifically, with the intention to provide the methods of preparing the samples for the micro-scale mechanical testing, to address the techniques for measuring and analyzing the elastic modulus, the stiffness, and the fracture toughness of cementitious materials at micro scale by instrumented indentation, to describe a method for measuring and interpreting creep behavior of cementitious materials at micro scale, and to demonstrate the homogenization method for obtaining the mechanical properties of cementitious materials across scales. The information in this book is helpful to a wide readership in the field of civil engineering and materials science working with cementitious materials and other composite materials.

Book 3D Printing of Concrete

Download or read book 3D Printing of Concrete written by Arnaud Perrot and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of digital manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing applied to concrete material, opens up new perspectives on the way in which buildings are designed. Research on this theme is thriving and there is a high rate of innovation related to concrete. At the same time, the first life-size constructions made from printed concrete are emerging from the ground. This book presents state-of-the-art knowledge on the different printing processes as well as on the concrete material that must adapt to these new manufacturing techniques, such as new hardware and new printers for concrete. The possibilities in terms of architectural design are discussed as well as the pathways that remain to be uncovered. The book also explores the challenges that researchers and companies expect to overcome as they get closer to democratizing this potential revolution that is the digital manufacturing of concrete.

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Ceramics written by R. W. Davidge and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1979-03-08 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1979 book presents the scientific foundations of mechanical behaviour and demonstrates how these can be used in engineering situations in relation to ceramics.

Book A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength

Download or read book A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength written by H. Leon Harter and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci observed that long wires are weaker than short wires of the same diameter. The statistical theory of extreme values (weakest-link theory) plays a very important role in studies of the size effect; competing theories include the energy theory and the technological theory. Summaries are given of relevant publications identified in the course of a literature survey on the size effect. Since this survey was motivated by concern about the reliability of large composite aircraft structures, which are now coming into use, special attention is given to the size effect on composite materials and structures. An attempt is made to summarize the present state of knowledge and to identify unsolved problems requiring further research.

Book Construction Materials

Download or read book Construction Materials written by Marios Soutsos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 1085 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This established textbook provides an understanding of materials’ behaviour through knowledge of their chemical and physical structure. It covers the main classes of construction materials: metals, concrete, other ceramics (including bricks and masonry), polymers, fibre composites, bituminous materials, timber, and glass. It provides a clear and comprehensive perspective on the whole range of materials used in modern construction, to form a must-have for civil and structural engineering students, and those on courses such as architecture, surveying and construction. It begins with a Fundamentals section followed by a section on each of the major groups of materials. In this new edition: - The section on fibre composites FRP and FRC has been completely restructured and updated. - Typical questions with answers to any numerical examples are given at the end of each section, as well as an instructor’s manual with further questions and answers. - The links in all parts have also been updated and extended, including links to free reports from The Concrete Centre, as well as other online resources and material suppliers’ websites. - and now with solutions manual and resources for adopting instructors on https://www.crcpress.com/9781498741101

Book Construction Materials

Download or read book Construction Materials written by Peter Domone and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 1116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So far in the twenty-first century, there have been many developments in our understanding of materials’ behaviour and in their technology and use. This new edition has been expanded to cover recent developments such as the use of glass as a structural material. It also now examines the contribution that material selection makes to sustainable construction practice, considering the availability of raw materials, production, recycling and reuse, which all contribute to the life cycle assessment of structures. As well as being brought up-to-date with current usage and performance standards, each section now also contains an extra chapter on recycling. Covers the following materials: metals concrete ceramics (including bricks and masonry) polymers fibre composites bituminous materials timber glass. This new edition maintains our familiar and accessible format, starting with fundamental principles and continuing with a section on each of the major groups of materials. It gives you a clear and comprehensive perspective on the whole range of materials used in modern construction. A must have for Civil and Structural engineering students, and for students of architecture, surveying or construction on courses which require an understanding of materials.
