Book Surveying Climate Relevant Behavior

Download or read book Surveying Climate Relevant Behavior written by Markus Hadler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book discusses the contribution of sociology and survey research to climate research. The authors address the questions of which behaviors are of climate relevance, who is engaging in these behaviors, in which contexts do these behaviors occur, and which individual perceptions and values are related to them. Utilizing survey research, the book focuses on the measurement of climate-relevant behaviors with population surveys and develops an instrument that allows a valid estimate of an individual’s GHG emissions with a few core items. While the development of these instruments was based on surveys and qualitative interviews conducted in Austria, the instruments were subsequently tested in a set of 31 European countries, revealing the international relevance of such research. The book also concludes with a brief consideration of the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on environmental attitudes, situating the project globally.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Yoder and Symons articulate a set of measurement principles that serve as the foundation for behavior observation as a scientific tool." óWilliam E. MacLean Jr., PhD Executive Director Wyoming Institute for Disabilities University of Wyoming This comprehensive textbook introduces graduate students to the competent conduct of observational research methods and measurement. The unique approach of this book is that the chapters delineate not only the techniques and mechanics of observational methods, but also the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of these methods. The observational methods presented can be used for both single-subject and group-design perspectives, showing students how and when to use both methodologies. In addition, the authors provide many practical exercises within chapters as well as electronic media files of a sample observation session to code with multiple behavior sampling methods. Key topics: Improving measurement of generalized characteristics through direct observation and the generalizability theory Developing coding schemes and designing or adapting coding manuals Determining sampling methods and metrics for observational variables Training observers and assessing their agreement Performing sequential analysis on observational data Assessing the validity of observational variables

Book International Involvement

Download or read book International Involvement written by Richard W. Chadwick and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of policy decisions on international behavior are discussed as not adequately separated from the effects of social ecology (e.g., power, development, type of political system) in traditional behavioral research. The deeper incursions that can be made into policy analysis by behavioral science methods, as distinguished from game theory, are seen to include concepts of goal, drift, and actual states of the international system in research designs, and to analyze gaps between predicted and actual behavior patterns. Book Practitioner s Guide to Empirically Based Measures of School Behavior

Download or read book Practitioner s Guide to Empirically Based Measures of School Behavior written by Mary Lou Kelley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-02 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children’s display of unacceptable behavior in the school setting, school violence, academic underachievement, and school failure represent a cluster of problems that touches all aspects of society. Children with learning and behavior problems are much more likely to be un- ployed, exhibit significant emotional and behavior disorders in adulthood, as well as become incarcerated. For example, by adolescence, children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity D- order are more likely to be retained a grade, drop out of school, have contact with the law, or fair worse along a number of dimensions than their unaffected siblings (Barkely, 1998). Identification, assessment, and treatment of children with externalizing behavior problems and learningdisabilities is critical to optimizing development and prevention of relatively - tractable behavioral and emotional problems in adulthood. For example, poor interpersonal problem solving and social skills excesses and deficits are strongly associated with poor o- come in adolescence and adulthood. The school is where children learn essential academic, social, and impulse control skills that allow them to function effectively in later years. School is where problems in these areas can be most easily identified and addressed. The purpose of this book is to provide an overview of assessment practices for evaluating children’s externalizing behavior problems exhibited in the school environment. Reviews of approximately 100 assessment devices for measuring children’s externalizing problems are included. Instruments include structured interviews, rating scales, and observational methods.

Book Capturing Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures in Electronic Health Records

Download or read book Capturing Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures in Electronic Health Records written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-01-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Determinants of health - like physical activity levels and living conditions - have traditionally been the concern of public health and have not been linked closely to clinical practice. However, if standardized social and behavioral data can be incorporated into patient electronic health records (EHRs), those data can provide crucial information about factors that influence health and the effectiveness of treatment. Such information is useful for diagnosis, treatment choices, policy, health care system design, and innovations to improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs. Capturing Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures in Electronic Health Records: Phase 2 identifies domains and measures that capture the social determinants of health to inform the development of recommendations for the meaningful use of EHRs. This report is the second part of a two-part study. The Phase 1 report identified 17 domains for inclusion in EHRs. This report pinpoints 12 measures related to 11 of the initial domains and considers the implications of incorporating them into all EHRs. This book includes three chapters from the Phase 1 report in addition to the new Phase 2 material. Standardized use of EHRs that include social and behavioral domains could provide better patient care, improve population health, and enable more informative research. The recommendations of Capturing Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures in Electronic Health Records: Phase 2 will provide valuable information on which to base problem identification, clinical diagnoses, patient treatment, outcomes assessment, and population health measurement.

Book Measuring International Trade on U S Highways

Download or read book Measuring International Trade on U S Highways written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-12-16 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International trade plays a substantial role in the economy of the United States. More than 1.6 billion tons of international merchandise was conveyed using the U.S. transportation system in 2001. The need to transport this merchandise raises concerns about the quality of the transportation system and its ability to support this component of freight movement. Measuring International Trade on U.S. Highways evaluates the accuracy and reliability of measuring the ton-miles and value-miles of international trade traffic carried by highway for each state. This report also assesses the accuracy and reliability of the use of diesel fuel data as a measure of international trade traffic by state and identifies needed improvements in long-term data collection programs.
