Book Skidding Measurement Techniques

Download or read book Skidding Measurement Techniques written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: Between December, 1958, and September, 1959, over 300 pavement surfaces, including 6 surface types, were skid tested in Florida using a tapley decelerometer mounted in a passenger vehicle. The skid tests were conducted on a wet surface at 40 mph. Paper 2: The coefficients of friction were experimentally determined for rubber tires on road surfaces in relation to slip when a wheel is braked. The method and equipment are described. Paper 3: The procedure for using a pendulum-type (tapley) decelerometer to measure the coefficient of friction is an empirical one in which the test car is braked for 1 sec and the maximum deceleration recorded by the device. Paper 4: Data are presented for many different types of pavements when dry, set, and snow- and ice-covered, with the latest types of rubber tires indicating the importance for precise measurements of coefficients of friction for the design of modern streets and highways and for developing programs for the prevention of skidding accidents.

Book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction

Download or read book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction written by James H. Woodstrom and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to construction engineers, pavement designers, contractors, and others interested in construction of new highway pavements with smooth surfaces. Information is provided on the various devices and specifications that are being used to obtain smooth pavements. The public rates a pavement primarily on its smooth-riding characteristics and highway agencies recognize that constructing smooth pavements results in fewer problems later and lower annual maintenance costs. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the devices and specifications highway agencies use to ensure that newly constructed pavements will provide a smooth ride.

Book Research Methods and Solutions to Current Transport Problems

Download or read book Research Methods and Solutions to Current Transport Problems written by Mirosław Siergiejczyk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-18 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is dedicated as an auxiliary literature for academic staff of universities, research institutes, as well as for students of transport teaching. The aim of the conference was to present the achievements of national and foreign research and scientific centers dealing with the issues of rail, road, air and sea transport in technical and technological aspects, as well as organization and integration of the environment conducting research and education in the discipline of civil engineering and transport. International Scientific Conference Transport of the 21st Century was held in Ryn, Poland, in the 9th–12th of June 2019. The research areas of the conference were as follows: • transport infrastructure and communication engineering, • construction and operation of means of transport, • logistics engineering and transport technology, • organization and planning of transport, including public transport, • traffic control systems in transport, • transport telematics and intelligent transportation systems, • smart city and electromobility, • safety engineering and ecology in transport, • automation of means of transport. It also used by specialists from central and local government authorities in the area of deepening knowledge of modern technologies and solutions used for planning, managing and operating transport.

Book Entropy in Image Analysis

Download or read book Entropy in Image Analysis written by Amelia Carolina Sparavigna and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-06-24 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image analysis is a fundamental task for extracting information from images acquired across a range of different devices. Since reliable quantitative results are requested, image analysis requires highly sophisticated numerical and analytical methods—particularly for applications in medicine, security, and remote sensing, where the results of the processing may consist of vitally important data. The contributions to this book provide a good overview of the most important demands and solutions concerning this research area. In particular, the reader will find image analysis applied for feature extraction, encryption and decryption of data, color segmentation, and in the support new technologies. In all the contributions, entropy plays a pivotal role.

Book Roadway Lighting Design Guide

Download or read book Roadway Lighting Design Guide written by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and published by AASHTO. This book was released on 2005 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide replaces the 1984 publication entitled An Informational Guide for Roadway Lighting. It has been revised and brought up to date to reflect current practices in roadway lighting. The guide provides a general overview of lighting systems from the point of view of the transportation departments and recommends minimum levels of quality. The guide incorporates the illuminance and luminance design methods, but does not include the small target visibility (STV) method.
