Book Photoproduced and Electroproduced Muon Pairs

Download or read book Photoproduced and Electroproduced Muon Pairs written by Paul L. Rothwell and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I: Photoproduced muon pairs were measured between 470 MeV and 1070 MeV in invariant mass. The results, after suitable corrections, were compared with the predictions of Quantum Electrodynamics. A value of (0.74 plus or minus 0.20) x 10 to the -4th power was obtained for the rho branching ratio into muon pairs compared with pion pairs. Upper limits of 0.26 and 0.12 were obtained for the omega and phi decay into muon pairs compared to the rho. Part II: The differential cross section for electroproduced (elastic) muon pairs were calculated including the crossterms between the space-like and time-like diagrams. The cross sections were evaluated for regions where either the space-like or time-like terms dominate. The muon-produced electron pair cross sections were also considered. Integration was performed over the final electron for muon pairs and the final muon for electron pairs. A region is shown to exist, consistent with Yamamoto's work, where the time-like case dominates. Counting rates are given for the apparatus of Part I for a carbon target and including form factor effects. Finally, zero mass, small angle approximations are derived for the differential cross sections for equal pair energies. (Author).

Book Precision Electroweak Physics at Electron Positron Colliders

Download or read book Precision Electroweak Physics at Electron Positron Colliders written by Stefan Roth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This up-to-date volume reviews the recent contributions of electron-positron colliders to the precision test of the electroweak Standard Model. In particular, it contains a short summary of the measurements at the Z resonance and gives an overview of the electroweak processes above the Z. Subsequently, the measurement of the W mass at LEP is discussed in detail. The implications for the precision test of the Standard Model are presented, giving the status of the global electroweak fit before the startup of Large Hadron Collider. The final chapters give an outlook on the electroweak physics at a future linear collider. The book also features many illustrations and tables. Readers obtain a coherent overview of the results of 20 years of electroweak physics conducted at electron-positron colliders.

Book Radiative Corrections for e e Collisions

Download or read book Radiative Corrections for e e Collisions written by Johann H. Kühn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the Standard Model of electroweak interactions has successfully passed a number of crucial tests, most notably in neutral current reactions and through the observation of W- and Z-bosons in proton-antiproton collisions. How ever, experiments are only beginning to verify one of the most basic consequences of its theoretical formulation as a local quantum field theory: quantum corrections as calculated in perturbation theory. Measurements that will be carried out at electron positron colliders at Stanford and CERN in the very near future will improve the accuracy by more than an order of magnitude. Thus either these crucial elements of the present theoretical framework will be confirmed or the road to physics beyond the Standard Model will be opened. A huge amount of theoretical work has been invested during the past few years to match the envisaged experimental precision. QED corrections, in particular from initial state radiation, will playa dominant role in the interpretation of measurements and have to be understood at a hitherto unrivalled level of accuracy. Analytical cal culations - either to a fixed order in a or by summing large logarithms to arbitrary order - are complementary to recent developments of Monte Carlo techniques in the simulation of events with multiple photon emission. Measurements with hadronic final states evidently require the understanding of hadronic corrections to high accu racy. Even purely leptonic reactions are influenced by hadronic interactions through vacuum polarization.

Book Spin Correlations in Tt Events from Pp Collisions

Download or read book Spin Correlations in Tt Events from Pp Collisions written by Boris Lemmer and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis introduces readers to the Standard Model, the top quark and its properties, before explaining the concept of spin correlation measurement. The first measurement of top quark spin correlations at the LHC in the lepton+jets decay channel is presented. As the heaviest elementary particle, the top quark plays an essential role in the Standard Model of elementary particle physics. In the case of top quarks being produced in pairs at hadron colliders, the Standard Model predicts their spins to be correlated. The degree of correlation depends on both the production mechanism and properties of the top quark. Any deviation from the Standard Model prediction can be an indicator for new physics phenomena. The thesis employs an advanced top quark reconstruction algorithm including dedicated identification of the up- and down-type quarks from the W boson decay.

Book Collisions of Electrons with Atoms and Molecules

Download or read book Collisions of Electrons with Atoms and Molecules written by G.F. Drukarev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a short outline of the present state of the theory of electron collisions with atomic particles - atoms, molecules and ions. It is addressed to those who by nature of their work need detailed information about the cross sections of various processes of electron collisions with atomic particles: experimentalists working in plasma physics, optics, quantum electronics, atmospheric and space physics, 'etc. Some of the cross sections have been measured. But in many important cases the only source of information is theoretical calcu lation. The numerous theoretical papers dealing with electronic collision processes contain various approximations. The inter relation between them and the level of their accuracy is often diffi cult to understand without a systematic study of the theory of atomic collisions, not to mention that theoretical considerations are necessary for the consistent interpretation of experimental results. The main constituents of the book are: 1. General theory with special emphasis on the topics most impor tant for understanding and discussing electron collisions with atomic particles.

Download or read book Atomic Collisions written by Earl W. McDaniel and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1989-09-25 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dealing mainly with collisions of electrons and photons with heavy particles, Atomic Collisions discusses electron-electron and photon-electron collisions. The energy range covered extends from a few meV up to a few MeV (excluding collisions in which nuclear forces are important). Emphasis is on the mechanisms by which the various collisions take place; almost all of the scattering approximations used in atomic collision theory are considered. Topics covered include scattering resonances, coincidence measurements, merged-beam experiments, positron collisions, collisions between spin-polarized particles, GaAs polarized electron sources, position-sensitive detection, synchrotron radiation sources, cyclotron resonance masers, laser cooling and trapping, multiphoton processes, and more. The exposition is relatively self-contained and includes end-of-chapter notes and more than 200 problems.

Book Introduction to the Theory of Collisions of Electrons with Atoms and Molecules

This book was released on 2013-03-26 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of the collisions between micro particles is of great importance for the number of fields belonging to physics, chemistry, astrophysics, biophysics etc. The present book, a theory for electron-atom and molecule collisions is developed using non-relativistic quantum mechanics in a systematic and lucid manner. The scattering theory is an essential part of the quantum mechanics course of all universities. During the last 30 years, the author has lectured on the topics presented in this book (collisions physics, photon-atom collisions, electron-atom and electron-molecule collisions, "electron-photon delayed coincidence technique", etc.) at many institutions including Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, The University of Western Ontario, Canada, and The Meerut University, India. The present book is the outcome of those lectures and is written to serve as a textbook for post-graduate and pre-PhD students and as a reference book for researchers.
