This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We measure the forward-backward asymmetry in the production of ?0b and ?¯0b baryons as a function of rapidity in pp¯ collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV using 10.4 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The asymmetry is determined by the preference of ?0b or ?¯0b particles to be produced in the direction of the beam protons or antiprotons, respectively. As a result, the measured asymmetry integrated over rapidity y in the range 0.1

Book Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in 2 Fb 1 of ppbar Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in 2 Fb 1 of ppbar Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the t{bar t} production cross section in p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV using events containing a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. Events consistent with t{bar t} decay are found by identifying jets containing candidate heavy-flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The measurement uses a CDF Run II data sample corresponding to 2 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. Based on 248 candidate events with three or more jets and an expected background of 79.5 ± 5.3 events, we measure a production cross section of 9.1 ± 1.6 pb.

Book Measurement of the Ttbar Production Cross Section in Ppbar Collisions at S

Download or read book Measurement of the Ttbar Production Cross Section in Ppbar Collisions at S written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV using 318 pb−1 of data collected by the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We measure the cross section in events with one high transverse momentum electron or muon, large missing transverse energy and three or more jets, where at least one bottom quarks from the top quark decay is identified via a secondary vertex tagging algorithm. The measured t{bar t} cross section is 8.7{sub -0.9}{sup +0.9}(stat){sub -0.9}{sup +1.2}(syst) pb, assuming a top quark mass of 178 GeV. The cross section measurement in the subsample in which both b-quark jets are identified gives 10.1{sub -1.4}{sup +1.6}(stat){sub -1.4}{sup +2.1}(syst) pb. We present one additional measurement of the t{bar t} cross section in the same dataset but without the b-tagging requirement. Top quark events are distinguished from the primary background of W boson production with associated jets using an artificial neural network method with a variety of kinematic quantities. This measurement uses a larger dataset albeit with a smaller t{bar t} fraction. The t{bar t} cross section without b-tagging is measured to be 6.0 ± 0.8(stat) ± 1.0(syst) pb.

Book Measurement of the Polarized Forward backward Asymmetry of Z B bar B Using a Lifetime Tag and Momentum weighted Track Charge

Download or read book Measurement of the Polarized Forward backward Asymmetry of Z B bar B Using a Lifetime Tag and Momentum weighted Track Charge written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a direct measurement of the parity-violating parameter A{sub b} by analyzing the left-right forward-backward asymmetry of b quarks in ee− --> Z{sup o} --> b{bar b}. The SLD experiment observes hadronic decays of Z{sup o} bosons produced at resonance in collisions of longitudinally polarized electrons and unpolarized positrons at the SLC. Heavy flavor decays of the Z{sup o} are identified by taking advantage of the long lifetime of B hadrons, the small, stable SLC beam spot, and precise tracking from SLD. The asymmetry A{sub b} is measured with a self-calibrating technique employing momentum-weighted track charge from both hemispheres in the tagged events. From our 1994--1995 sample of 3.6 pb−1 of ee− annihilation data with a luminosity-weighted average e− polarization of 77.3%, and our 1993 sample of 1.8 pb−1 with a luminosity-weighted polarization of 63.1%, we obtain A{sub b}(preliminary) = 0.843 " 0.046(stat.) " 0.051(syst.).

Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the t{bar t} production cross section using 194 pb−1 of CDF II data using events with a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. The measurement assumes 100% t --> Wb branching fraction. Events consistent with t{bar t} decay are found by identifying jets containing heavy flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The dominant backgrounds are evaluated directly from the data. Based on 20 candidate events and an expected background of 9.5 " 1.1 events, we measure a production cross section of 5.3 " 3.3{sub -1.0}{sup +1.3} pb, in agreement with the standard model.

Book Inclusive and Differential Measurements of the T T bar Charge Asymmetry in Proton proton Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Inclusive and Differential Measurements of the T T bar Charge Asymmetry in Proton proton Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The t t-bar charge asymmetry is measured in events containing a charged lepton (electron or muon) and at least four jets, one of which is identified as originating from b-quark hadronization. The analyzed dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 inverse femtobarns collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. An inclusive and three differential measurements of the t t-bar charge asymmetry as a function of rapidity, transverse momentum, and invariant mass of the t t-bar system are presented. The measured inclusive t t-bar charge asymmetry is A(C) = 0.004 +/- 0.010 (stat.) +/- 0.011 (syst.). This result and the three differential measurements are consistent with zero asymmetry as well as with the predictions of the standard model.

Book The B bar B Production Cross Section and Correlations in P bar P Collisions At radical

Download or read book The B bar B Production Cross Section and Correlations in P bar P Collisions At radical written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present measurements of the b[bar b] production cross section and angular correlations between the b and[bar b]-quarks in p[bar p] collisions using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron operating at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV. The b-quark production cross section for[vert-bar]y[sup b][vert-bar]1.0 and[rho][sub[tau]][sup b] 8 GeV/c is extracted and found to be consistent with next-to-leading order QCD predictions. In addition, the angular correlations between the b and[bar b]-quarks are found to agree in shape with next-to-leading order QCD predictions.
