Download or read book Measurement of Decay Amplitudes of B to ccbar K Withan Angular Analysis for ccbar written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors perform the first three-dimensional measurement of the amplitudes of B → [psi](2S)K* and B → [chi]{sub c1}K* decays and update the previous measurement B → J/[psi]K*. They use a data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring, corresponding to 232 million B{bar B} pairs. The longitudinal polarization of decays involving a J{sup PC} = 1{sup ++} [chi]{sub c1} meson is found to be larger than that with a 1−− J/[psi] or [psi](2S) meson. No direct CP-violating charge asymmetry is observed.

Book excerpt: We perform the first three-dimensional measurement of the amplitudes of B {yields} {psi}(2S)K* and B {yields} {chi}{sub c1}K* decays and update our previous measurement for B {yields} J/{psi} K*. We use a data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring, representing 232 million produced B{bar B} pairs. The longitudinal polarization of decays to the 1{sup ++} {chi}{sub c1} meson together with a K* meson, is found to be larger than that for the decay to the 1{sup --} {Psi} mesons. No direct CP-violating charge asymmetry is observed.

Book excerpt: With a sample of about 227 million B[bar B] pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring the authors perform a full angular analysis of the decay B[sup 0] --> [phi]K*[sup 0](892). They measure the branching fraction to be (9.2 [+-] 0.9 [+-] 0.5) x 10[sup 06] and determine the fractions of longitudinal and parity-odd transverse contributions as f[sub L] = 0.52 [+-] 0.05 [+-] 0.02 and F[sub [perpendicular]] = 0.22 [+-] 0.05 [+-] 0.02, respectively. The phases of the parity-even and parity-odd transverse amplitudes relative to the longitudinal amplitude are found to be [phi][sub [parallel]] = 2.34[sub -0.20][sup +0.23] [+-] 0.05 rad and [phi][sub [perpendicular]] = 2.47 [+-] 0.25 [+-] 0.05 rad, respectively. The authors measure five CP asymmetries which provide important limits on CP violation originating from new physics. They also observe the decay B[sup 0] --> [phi]K*[sup 0](1430).

Book Amplitude Analysis of the B to Phi K 892 Decay

Download or read book Amplitude Analysis of the B to Phi K 892 Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We perform an amplitude analysis of B{sup ±} 2!{var_phi}(1020)K*(892){sup ±} decay with a sample of about 384 million B{bar B} pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f{sub L} and parity-odd transverse f{sub {perpendicular}} amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP-violation. We use the dependence on the K[pi] invariant mass of the interference between the J{sup P} = 1− and 0 K[pi] components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f{sub L} = 0.49 ± 0.05 ± 0.03, f{sub {perpendicular}} = 0.21 {+-} 0.05 {+-} 0.02, and the strong phases point to the presence of a substantial helicity-plus amplitude from a presently unknown source.

Book Measurement of Inclusive and Exclusive B Decays to Charmonium with BaBar

Download or read book Measurement of Inclusive and Exclusive B Decays to Charmonium with BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using 8.5M BB events recorded by the BABAR detector the yield of inclusive J[psi], the branching ratios of[psi](2S) and x[sub c] are presented. Combining the charmonium state with either a K[sup+-], K[sub s][sup 0], K*[sup+-] exclusive B decays are reconstructed and their branching ratios determined. Using the fully reconstructed decays, both the B[sup 0] B[sup+-] masses and their difference is measured. Finally the contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B[yields] J/[psi] K* are determined from an angular analysis.

Book excerpt: The study of b quarks has now reached a stage where it is useful to review what has been learned so far and also to look at the implications of future studies. The most important observations thus far measurement of the B lifetime, B0 B0 mixing, and the observation of b? u transitions, as well as more mundane results on hadronic and semileptonic transitions are described in detail by experimentalists who have been closely involved with the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b quark decays, including the mechanisms of hadronic and semileptonic decays, are described. Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, the authors discuss tests of the standard model and measurements of standard model parameters. Possibilities of more extensive tests using measurement of CP violation in the B system are also addressed.

Book Measurement of Angle Beta with Time dependent CPAsymmetry in B0 to K K K0 Decays

Download or read book Measurement of Angle Beta with Time dependent CPAsymmetry in B0 to K K K0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, the phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark-mixing matrix [1, 2] is the only source of CP violation in the quark sector. Due to the interference between mixing and decay, this phase can be observed in measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries of B° mesons. In the SM, CP asymmetries in b 2!s{bar s}s decays, such as B° 2!KK−K°, are expected to be nearly equal to those observed in tree-dominated b 2!{bar c}s decays [3]. However, because in the SM the former are dominated by loop amplitudes, new particles in those loops potentially introduce new physics at the same order as the SM process. Within the SM, deviations from the expected CP asymmetries in B° 2!KK−K° decays depend on the Dalitz plot position, but are expected to be small and positive [4]. In particular, for the decay B° 2![phi]K° they are expected to be less than 4%. BABAR extracts the time-dependent CP-violation parameters by taking into account different amplitudes and phases across the B° and {bar B}° Dalitz plots, while Belle measures it separately for B° 2![phi]K° and the rest of K+K−K° events, neglecting interference between intermediate states. The analyses presented here are based on 347 (535) million B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR (Belle) detector at the SLAC PEP-II (KEKB) e+e− asymmetric-energy collider. Data are collected on the [Upsilon](4S) resonance, while a fraction of about 10% is collected at approximately 40 MeV below the [Upsilon](4S) resonance, and it is used to study the background arising from e+e− 2!q{bar q} (q = u, d, s, c) continuum events. The BABAR and Belle detectors are described in detail elsewhere [5].

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have measured the time-dependent decay rate for the process B [yields] J/[psi] K*[sup 0](892) in a sample of about 88 million [Upsilon](4S) [yields] B[bar B] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. In this sample we study flavor-tagged events in which one neutral B meson is reconstructed in the J/[psi]K*[sup 0] or J/[psi] [bar K]*[sup 0] final state. We measure the coefficients of the cosine and sine terms in the time-dependent asymmetries for J/[psi]K*[sup 0] and J/[psi][bar K]*[sup 0], find them to be consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and set upper limits at 90% C.L. on the decay amplitude ratios A([bar B][sup 0] [yields] J/[psi]K*[sup 0])/A(B[sup 0] [yields] J/[psi]K*[sup 0])

Book Measurement of the B J psi K 892 Decay Amplitudes

Download or read book Measurement of the B J psi K 892 Decay Amplitudes written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B[yields] J/[psi] K*(892) channels using 20.7 fb[sup -1] of data collected at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. They measure a P-wave fraction R[perpendicular]= (16.0[+-] 3.2[+-] 1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7[+-] 2.8[+-] 2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor[pi], [psi][parallel]= 2.50[+-] 0.20[+-] 0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B[yields] J/[psi] K[pi] proceeds mainly via K*(892), there is also evidence for K*[sub 2](1430) and K[pi] S-wave contributions.

Book Measurement of the B rightarrow P bar p K Branching Fraction and Study of the Decay Dynamics

Download or read book Measurement of the B rightarrow P bar p K Branching Fraction and Study of the Decay Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a sample of 232 x 106 [Upsilon](4S) 2!B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the decay B 2!p{bar p}K excluding charmonium decays to p{bar p}. We measure a branching fraction [Beta](B+ 2!p{bar p}K+) = (6.7 ± 0.5 ± 0.4) x 10−6. An enhancement at low p{bar p} mass is observed and the Dalitz plot asymmetry suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this B decay. We search for a pentaquark candidate [Theta]*{sup ++} decaying into pK+ in the mass range 1.43 to 2.00 GeV/c2 and set limits on [Beta](B+ 2![Theta]*{sup ++} {bar p}) x [Beta]([Theta]*{sup ++} 2!pK+) at the 10−7 level.

Book A Study of B ccbar Gamma K in the BaBar Experiment

Download or read book A Study of B ccbar Gamma K in the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The BABAR Collaboration is a high energy physics experiment located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The primary goal of the experiment is to study charge and parity violation in the B-meson sector, however the copious production of B mesons decaying to other final states allows for a wide-ranging physics program. In particular, one can access the charmonium system via colour-suppressed b → c decays of the type B → c{bar c}K. This thesis presents a study of B → c{bar c}[gamma]K decays where c{bar c} includes J/[psi] and [psi](2S), and K includes K{sup ±}, K{sub S}° and K*(892). The particular emphasis is on a search for the radiative decays X(3872) → J/[psi][gamma] and X(3872) → [psi](2S)[gamma]. The X(3872) state is a recently-discovered resonance of undetermined quark composition, speculatively a conventional charmonium state or exotic four-quark di-meson molecule. This research is also sensitive to the well-known radiative charmonium decays B → [chi]{sub c1,2}K, which are used as verification for the analysis technique. This dissertation sets the best B → [chi]{sub c1}K branching fraction measurements to date, and sees the first evidence for factorization-suppressed B° → [chi]{sub c2}K*° decay at a level of 3.6[sigma]. It also provides evidence for X(3872) → J/[psi][gamma] and X(3872) → [psi](2S)[gamma] with 3.6[sigma] and 3.3[sigma] significance, respectively. The product of branching fractions [Beta](B{sup ±} → X(3872)K{sup ±}) · [Beta](X(3872) → J/[psi][gamma]) = (2.8 ± 0.8(stat.) {+-} 0.2(syst.)) x 10−6 and [Beta](B{sup {+-}} → X(3872)K{sup {+-}}) → [Beta](X(3872) → [psi](2S)[gamma]) = (9.5 {+-} 2.7(stat.) {+-} 0.9(syst.)) x 10−6 are measured. These results improve upon previous X(3872) → J/[psi][gamma] measurements, and represent the first evidence for X(3872) → [psi](2S)[gamma].
