This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present preliminary observations of the decays of charged B mesons to a K* and a D[sup 0] where the latter particle is seen in final states of even and odd CP. They express the results in terms of R[sub CP] and A[sub CP]. With more statistics, these quantities will constrain [tau][sub B], the ratio of amplitudes defined in equations provided and the angle [gamma] of the unitary triangle by application of the Gronau-London-Wyler method.

Book Measurements of CP Asymmetries in the Decay B phi K

Download or read book Measurements of CP Asymmetries in the Decay B phi K written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a preliminary measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry for the neutral B-meson decay B[sup 0] --> [phi]K[sup 0]. They use a sample of approximately 227 million B-meson pairs recorded at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-meson Factory at SLAC. They reconstruct the CP eigenstates [phi]K[sub s][sup 0] and [phi]K[sub L][sup 0] where [phi] --> K[sup +]K[sup -], K[sub s][sup 0] --> [pi][sup +][pi][sup -], and K[sub L][sup 0] is observed via its hadronic interactions. The other B meson in the event is tagged as either a B[sup 0] or [bar B][sup 0] from its decay products. The values of the CP-violation parameters deived from the combined [phi]K[sup 0] dataset are S[sub [phi]K] = +0.50 [+-] 0.25(stat.)[sub -0.04][sup +0.07](syst.) and C[sub [phi]K] = 0.00 [+-] 0.23(stat.) [+-]0.05(syst.). In addition, the authors measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry A[sub CP](B[sup +] --> [phi]K[sup +]) = 0.054 [+-] 0.056(stat.) [+-] 0.012(syst.). All results are preliminary.

Book The Measurement of CP Asymmetries in the Three Body Charmless Decay Neutral B Meson Decays to Neutral Kaon S Neutral Kaon S Neutral Kaon S

Download or read book The Measurement of CP Asymmetries in the Three Body Charmless Decay Neutral B Meson Decays to Neutral Kaon S Neutral Kaon S Neutral Kaon S written by Haleh K. Hadavand and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dissertation, a measurement of CP-violating effects in decays of neutral B mesons is presented. The data sample for this measurement consists of about 272 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected between 1999 and 2004 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider, located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. One neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in the CP eigenstate B{sup 0} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0} K{sub S}{sup 0} K{sub S}{sup 0}. The other B meson is determined to be either a B{sup 0} or a {bar B}{sup 0}, at the time of its decay, from the properties of its decay products. The proper time {Delta}t elapsed between the decay of the two mesons is determined by reconstructing their decay vertices, and by measuring the distance between them. A novel technique for determining the B vertex of the decay to the CP eigenstate B{sup 0} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0} K{sub S}{sup 0} K{sub S}{sup 0} has been applied since the tracks in the final state do not originate from the B decay vertex. The time-dependent CP asymmetry amplitudes are determined by the distributions of {Delta}t in events with a reconstructed B meson in the CP eigenstate. The detector resolution and the b flavor tagging parameters are constrained by the {Delta}t distributions of events with a fully reconstructed flavor eigenstate. Because of the special topology of this decay, the detector resolution on {Delta}t must be checked for consistency with decays with tracks which originate from the B decay. From a maximum likelihood fit to the {Delta}t distributions of all selected events, the value of the CP violating asymmetries are measured to be S{sub 3K{sub S}{sup 0}} = -0.71{sub -0.32}{sup +0.38} {+-} 0.04 and C{sub 3K{sub S}{sup 0}} = -0.34{sub -0.25}{sup +0.28} {+-} 0.05. Fixing C = 0 we measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry amplitude sin 2{beta} = -S{sub 3K{sub S}{sup 0}} = 0.79{sub -0.36}{sup +0.39} {+-} 0.04. The value of sin 2{beta} is in agreement with Standard Model predictions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a search for non-Standard Model physics through the measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in the singly-Cabibbo- suppressed $D^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $D^0 \to K^+ K^- $ decays reconstructed in about 5.9 fb-1 of CDF data. We use the strong $D^{*+} \to D^0\pi^+$ decay ("D tag") to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production time and exploit CP-conserving strong cc pair-production in pp collisions. Large samples of Cabibbo-favored $D^0 \to K^-\pi^+$ decays with and without D tag are used to highly suppress systematic uncertainties due to detector effects. The results are the world's most precise measurements to date and have been published by Physical Review D in January 2012 [1].

Book Measurement of Time Dependent CP Violating Asymmetries in B 0 Meson Decays to Eta K 0 L

This book was released on 2005 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a preliminary measurement of CP-violating parameters S and C from fits of the time-dependence of B{sup 0} meson decays to {eta}'K{sub L}{sup 0}. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP-II and correspond to 232 x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation through the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance. By fitting the time-dependent CP asymmetry of the reconstructed B{sup 0} {yields} {eta}'K{sub L}{sup 0} events, they find S = 0.60 {+-} 0.31 {+-} 0.04 and C = 0.10 {+-} 0.21 {+-} 0.03, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. They also perform a combined fit using both {eta}'K{sub S}{sup 0} and {eta}'K{sub L}{sup 0} data, and find S = 0.36 {+-} 0.13 {+-} 0.03 and C = -0.16 {+-} 0.09 {+-} 0.02.

Book excerpt: We present new measurements of CP asymmetries in B° → (c{bar c})K{sup 0(*)} decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC between 1999 and 2004. We determine sin2[beta] from decay-time distributions of 7730 signal events in a data sample of approximately 227 x 106 [Upsilon](4S) → B{bar B} decays. The measured value of sin2[beta] = 0.722 ± 0.040(stat) ± 0.023(syst) is in agreement with the value expected from the Standard Model. In a separate time-dependent angular analysis of B → J/[psi] K*° (K*° → K{sub S}°[pi]°) decays we measure cos 2[beta] to be positive at 86% CL.
