Book Measurement and Geometry in Upper Primary School

Download or read book Measurement and Geometry in Upper Primary School written by Koeno Gravemeijer and published by Brill. This book was released on 2016 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the fourth - and final - publication in the TAL project series. This TAL project was initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, with the aim to improve the quality of mathematics education by providing a perspective on didactic goals and learning-teaching trajectories, and on the relationship between them. The focus of this book is on measurement and geometry in the upper grades of primary education. Measurement and geometry are important topics which perhaps do not get the emphasis they deserve. They build, in a manner of speaking, a bridge between everyday reality and mathematics. Measurement concerns the quantification of phenomena; consequently, it makes these phenomena accessible for mathematics. Geometry establishes the basis for understanding the spatial aspects of reality. See for extra information related to this book: www.fi.uu.nl/publicaties/subsets/measurementgeometry/

Book Standards Driven Math

Download or read book Standards Driven Math written by Nathaniel Max Rock and published by Team Rock Press. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standards Driven MathT addresses the California Content Standards individually through this Student Standards HandbookT. Students can focus more directly on content standards for improved math success. In addition to standards being covered one-at-a-time, explanations of the meaning of each content standard are provided and appropriate problem sets are included. There is also a subject index by standard. Standards driven means that the standard is the driving force behind the content. No matter what textbook students are using, all will benefit from the direct standards approach of Standards Driven MathT. Every student should practice directly from a Student Standards HandbookT. Developed directly from one of the nation's most rigorous sets of state standards-California, this book is useful for spring standards test prep. No classroom should be without one for every student. Nathaniel Max Rock, an engineer by training, has taught math in middle school and high school including math classes: 7th Grade Math, Algebra I, Geometry I, Algebra II, Math Analysis and Calculus. Max has been documenting his math curricula since 2002 in various forms, some of which can be found on MathForEveryone.com, StandardsDrivenMath.com and MathIsEasySoEasy.com. Max is also an AVID elective teacher and the lead teacher for the Academy of Engineering at his high school.

Book Perspectives on the Teaching of Geometry for the 21st Century

Download or read book Perspectives on the Teaching of Geometry for the 21st Century written by Carmelo Mammana and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-03-31 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years geometry seems to have lost large parts of its former central position in mathematics teaching in most countries. However, new trends have begun to counteract this tendency. There is an increasing awareness that geometry plays a key role in mathematics and learning mathematics. Although geometry has been eclipsed in the mathematics curriculum, research in geometry has blossomed as new ideas have arisen from inside mathematics and other disciplines, including computer science. Due to reassessment of the role of geometry, mathematics educators and mathematicians face new challenges. In the present ICMI study, the whole spectrum of teaching and learning of geometry is analysed. Experts from all over the world took part in this study, which was conducted on the basis of recent international research, case studies, and reports on actual school practice. This book will be of particular interest to mathematics educators and mathematicians who are involved in the teaching of geometry at all educational levels, as well as to researchers in mathematics education.
