Book The Adventures of Harry Richmond

Download or read book The Adventures of Harry Richmond written by George Meredith and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After his father drove his mother to insanity, Harry Richmond spent the early years of his childhood under his maternal grandfather’s care. As one of the richest men in England, Harry’s grandfather, Squire Beltham, provides an extravagant life for the young boy, but when Roy, Harry’s father, shows up and demands custody, no one can deny him of the right. After leaving the care of his grandfather, Harry came of age in a London boarding school, making friends and going on adventures. After a particularly wild trip causes Harry to cross paths with a princess, Harry and his father become dedicated to the idea of marriage. Though his grandfather offers him a generous yearly allowance to marry a woman of his choosing, Harry is more inclined to marry the princess, as his father promises he can convince the princess to accept the proposal. This disagreement, paired with past transgressions, strains Roy and the squire’s relationship greatly, sowing discord and distrust. As his conflicting father figures each attempt to accomplish their goal for Harry, the young man must navigate his own feelings and overcome the tragedy that their feud welcomes. With exquisite description and emotive prose, The Adventures of Harry Richmond by George Meredith is a sentimental and picaresque romance. With strong elements of autobiography and drama, The Adventures of Harry Richmond is compelling from start to finish, entertaining with a strong narrative and fascinating with quality character development. Though first published in 1871, Meredith’s storytelling is unconventional and continues to capture the minds and hearts of its audience. This edition of The Adventures of Harry Richmond by George Meredith features an eye-catching new cover design and is presented in a font that is both modern and readable. With these accommodations, this edition is accessible and appealing to contemporary audiences, restoring this Victorian romantic drama to modern standards while preserving the original mastery of George Meredith’s work.

Book Broken 2 B Healed The Testimony

Download or read book Broken 2 B Healed The Testimony written by Cindy Schwartz-Jones and published by Cindy Schwartz-Jones. This book was released on 2022-06-17 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Telling your life testimonial is never easy especially when it involves so much tragedy, pain, struggle, being tormented by demons as a child and hardship. I guess the only way to break the barrier is to start from the beginning as, far back as I could possibly remember even if it is in bits and pieces. Most my life consisted of nothing but struggling, survival, multiple rapes, pain and abuse from childhood to adulthood, physical, mental and emotional abuse. A lot of what happened to me has never ever been told to anyone not even to my own children. This book will give you chills! But GOD!!!! Being raised in several different homes as a young child due to my father being in the military before finally getting settled with my father by the age of 5 yrs old and by then being raised by a step-mother who I thought at that time was mean and cruel but today I love her and realize why she did the things she did to me which at that time I felt like Cinderella, then I ran away from home at age 14 and then I went right into a 16 year abusive sham marriage .....this is where it began, but where I ended up and how God delivered is the testimony. This is a book that you will not want to put down from beginning to end. My prayer is that through my brokenness and my deliverance that whoever reads this book will be healed and delivered.

Book Why Should He Put out My Light

Download or read book Why Should He Put out My Light written by Kassandra Paige and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the moment she came into the world, this little girl was at the mercy of her cruel and often merciless father, raping her from as early as she can remember then belting her into submission so she wouldnt tell her mother. This story is one a lot of women will identify with. Unfortunately, the ramifications of this upbringing set about a series of events that had her not trusting men, hence experiencing two failed marriages, which are covered in this book. Now, still on friendly terms with both ex-husbands, she candidly confides what led to the breakups, how she coped with the frustrations by singing and painting, and how she doesnt believe in holding grudges or playing the blame game. Of course, names have been changed to protect them, and she writes under a pseudonym. This book is written in a go and grab a cup of coffee style, conversational and very honest but with a sense of humor, indicative of the authors forgiving nature.

Book Letters to Auntie Fori

Download or read book Letters to Auntie Fori written by Martin Gilbert and published by Schocken. This book was released on 2002 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir Martin Gilbert, renowned author of many authoritative works of history and biography, speaks in a charming, personal voice in this fascinating volume, the saga of five thousand years of Jewish life laid out in a series of intimate, storytelling letters to a lifelong friend. Sir Martin first met “Auntie Fori” in 1958,when he arrived in New Delhi with a letter of introduction from her son, a fellow Oxford student. Their friendship flourished for forty years through correspondence and visits to the capitals where her husband, the diplomat B. K. Nehru, was posted. Then, at her ninetieth birthday celebration in 1998, Auntie Fori told her “adopted nephew” that she was not of Indian birth but was actually Hungarian–and Jewish. She did not know what this Jewish identity involved–historically or spiritually–and she asked him to enlighten her. In response, Sir Martin embarked on the series of letters that have been gathered to form this book, shaping each one as a concise, individually formed story. He presents Jewish history as the narrative expression–the timeline–of the Jewish faith, and the faith as it is informed by the history. Starting with Adam and Eve, he then brings us to Abraham and his descendants, who worshiped a God who repeatedly, and often dramatically, intervened in their lives. The stories of Genesis and Exodus lead seamlessly on to those of the eras when the land was ruled by the Israelite kings and then by Assyria, Babylonia, Persia, Greece, and Rome–the Biblical and post-Biblical periods. In Sir Martin’s hands, these stories are rich in incident and achievement. He then traces the long history of the Jews in the Diaspora, ending with an unexpected visit to an outpost of Jewry in Anchorage, Alaska. Ranging through almost every country in the world–including China and India–he maintains a chronological structure, weaving in the history of other peoples and faiths, to give Auntie Fori–and us–a sense of the larger stage on which Jewish history has played out. The last fifty letters are devoted to an explanation of Jewish faith and worship, intertwined with the history and observance of holy days and festivals. These letters are fascinating in their objectivity and at the same time infused with a deep personal warmth. Written for one beloved friend,Letters to Auntie Foribrings to life the events and sequence of Jewish history with a special charm that will endear this volume to readers old and young.
