Download or read book A Tale of Two Transformations written by Michael K. Levine and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books that seek to explain Lean and Agile software that offer theory, techniques, and examples. Michael Levine’s first book, A Tale of Two Systems, is one of the best, synthesizing Lean manufacturing and product development with agile software concepts in an engaging business novel. However, there has been precious little practical guidance for those seeking to change existing organizations to become Lean and Agile, until now. Mr. Levine has followed the successful approach of A Tale of Two Systems, telling two simultaneous intertwined and contrasting stories, to bring organizational transformation to life. Mary O’Connell and James "Wes" Wesleyan, recently engaged to be married, share a commitment to Lean and Agile Software. They have recently become leaders in two very different companies – one, stuck in a slow-moving, unresponsive, process-driven quagmire of a software culture; the other, struggling through the chaos of a sales-driven, process-less swirl. Together with their wise mentor, Neville Roberts, they identify two approaches to making needed changes: Drive People (a top-down approach focused on processes and tools), and People Driven (an enablement approach focused on people and organizations). Mary and Wes evaluate their situations and choose approaches that best fit for them, and the transformations commence. A Tale of Two Transformations differs from many information technology books by grappling with all the complexities of our organizations: the people, the politics, the financials, the processes – in short, the culture from which our Lean and Agile journeys must begin. The change model presented in the flow of the stories is generally applicable, and can help anyone thinking about how to improve their organization.

Download or read book Cellulose Nanocrystal Nanoparticles Hybrid Nanocomposites written by Denis Rodrigue and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cellulose Nanocrystal/Nanoparticles Hybrid Nanocomposites: From Preparation to Applications presents a broad survey of the main innovations in the field of functionalized cellulose at the nanoscale and for hybrid nanoparticles-based nanocomposites for industrial application. The book covers the properties and applications of cellulose, including particle extraction, synthesis, functionalization of cellulose at the nanoscale, and hybrid nanoparticles and their processing and characterizations. Readers will find this to be a single and comprehensive reference for future research on polymer-based nanocomposites. Hybrid nanocomposites based on cellulose at the nanoscale, and hybridized with other reinforcement agents represent a key advance in polymer-based materials. Cellulose is considered the most abundant polymer on the planet and an essential renewable resource. There is considerable research interest in the simple extraction and synthesis, nanoscale dimensions, high aspect ratio, mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of cellulose at the nanoscale and its hybridized materials. Nanocomposites and bio-nanocomposites with hybrid reinforcements, for example, are novel materials with enhanced properties due to the integration of cellulose with other nanoparticles, and new methods have been developed to extract cellulose at the nanoscale. The extracted cellulose shows potential applications in nanocomposites, and functionalization techniques are essential to create enhanced nanocomposites, particularly for hybrid nanoparticles. - Presents the state-of-the-art in functionalized cellulose at the nanoscale, along with industrial applications of hybrid-nanoparticles-based nanocomposites - Details the properties and applications of cellulose at the nanoscale and for hybrid nanocomposites - Gives updates on hybrid nanoparticles, including the processing and characterization of nanocomposites - Brings together expertise from chemistry, polymer science, engineering and manufacturing

Download or read book A Comparative Study of Islamic Finance in Australia and the UK written by Imran Lum and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides valuable insights into the practical challenges faced by the nascent Islamic finance industry and compares the Australian experience to developments in the UK. It contributes to a greater understanding of how Muslims living as a minority in Australia and the UK negotiate Islamic doctrine in secular societies by focusing on one aspect of this negotiation, namely the prohibition of ribā. There is little debate in the Islamic tradition on the prohibition of ribā. The differences, however, lie in the interpretation of ribā and the question of how Muslims live in a society that is heavily reliant on interest and conventional banking, yet at the same time adhere to Islamic guidelines. Through the words of religious leaders, Muslim professionals and university students, Imran Lum provides real accounts of how Muslims in Australia and the UK practically deal with conventional banking and finance products such as home loans, savings accounts and credit cards. He also explores Muslim attitudes towards Islamic finance and queries whether religion is the sole determining factor when it comes to its uptake. Drawing on his own unique experience as a practitioner responsible for growing an Islamic business in a conventional bank, Lum provides a firsthand account of the complexities associated with structuring Islamic finance products that are not only sharia compliant but also competitive in a non-Muslim jurisdiction. Using ṣukūk bonds as a case study, he highlights the tangible and non-tangible barriers to product development, such as tax and regulatory requirements and the rise of Islamophobia. Combining academic and industry experience, Lum unpacks the relationship of Islamic finance with Muslim identity construction in the West and how certain modalities of religiosity can lead to an uptake of Islamic finance, while others can lead to its rejection.
