Book A Simple Method for Estimating Terminal Velocity Including Effect of Compressibility on Drag

Download or read book A Simple Method for Estimating Terminal Velocity Including Effect of Compressibility on Drag written by Ralph P. Bielat and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: A generalized drag curve that provides an estimate for the drag rise due to compressibility has been obtained for an analysis of wind-tunnel data of several airfoils, fuselages, nacelles, and windshields at speeds up to and above the wing critical speed. The airfoils analyzed had little or no sweepback and effective aspect ratios above 6.5. A chart based on the generalized drag curve is presented from which the terminal velocity of a conventional airplane that employs a wing of moderate aspect ratio and very little sweepback in a vertical dive may be rapidly estimated. In order to use the chart, the only data that need be known about the airplane are a low-speed drag coefficient, the wing critical speed, and the wing loading. The terminal velocities for three airplanes were computed in order to illustrate the use of the method and chart. Good agreement between the estimated terminal velocity and the measured flight terminal velocity was indicated for all three airplanes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explains the fundamental concepts and principles underlying the subject, illustrates the application of numerical methods to solve engineering problems with mathematical models, and introduces students to the use of computer applications to solve problems. A continuous step-by-step build up of the subject makes the book very student-friendly. All topics and sequentially coherent subtopics are carefully organized and explained distinctly within each chapter. An abundance of solved examples is provided to illustrate all phases of the topic under consideration. All chapters include several spreadsheet problems for modeling of physical phenomena, which enable the student to obtain graphical representations of physical quantities and perform numerical analysis of problems without recourse to a high-level computer language. Adequately equipped with numerous solved problems and exercises, this book provides sufficient material for a two-semester course. The book is essentially designed for all engineering students. It would also serve as a ready reference for practicing engineers and for those preparing for competitive examinations. It includes previous years' question papers and their solutions.

Book Building Control with Passive Dampers

Download or read book Building Control with Passive Dampers written by Izuru Takewaki and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent introduction of active and passive structural control methods has given structural designers powerful tools for performance-based design. However, structural engineers often lack the tools for the optimal selection and placement of such systems. In Building Control with Passive Dampers , Takewaki brings together most the reliable, state-of-the-art methods in practice around the world, arming readers with a real sense of how to address optimal selection and placement of passive control systems. The first book on optimal design, sizing, and location selection of passive dampers Combines theory and practical applications Describes step-by-step how to obtain optimal damper size and placement Covers the state-of-the-art in optimal design of passive control Integrates the most reliable techniques in the top literature and used in practice worldwide Written by a recognized expert in the area MATLAB code examples available from the book’s Companion Website This book is essential for post-graduate students, researchers, and design consultants involved in building control. Professional engineers and advanced undergraduates interested in seismic design, as well as mechanical engineers looking for vibration damping techniques, will also find this book a helpful reference. Book Nature Inspired Optimization Algorithms

Download or read book Nature Inspired Optimization Algorithms written by Vasuki A and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature-Inspired Optimization Algorithms, a comprehensive work on the most popular optimization algorithms based on nature, starts with an overview of optimization going from the classical to the latest swarm intelligence algorithm. Nature has a rich abundance of flora and fauna that inspired the development of optimization techniques, providing us with simple solutions to complex problems in an effective and adaptive manner. The study of the intelligent survival strategies of animals, birds, and insects in a hostile and ever-changing environment has led to the development of techniques emulating their behavior. This book is a lucid description of fifteen important existing optimization algorithms based on swarm intelligence and superior in performance. It is a valuable resource for engineers, researchers, faculty, and students who are devising optimum solutions to any type of problem ranging from computer science to economics and covering diverse areas that require maximizing output and minimizing resources. This is the crux of all optimization algorithms. Features: Detailed description of the algorithms along with pseudocode and flowchart Easy translation to program code that is also readily available in Mathworks website for some of the algorithms Simple examples demonstrating the optimization strategies are provided to enhance understanding Standard applications and benchmark datasets for testing and validating the algorithms are included This book is a reference for undergraduate and post-graduate students. It will be useful to faculty members teaching optimization. It is also a comprehensive guide for researchers who are looking for optimizing resources in attaining the best solution to a problem. Book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes written by Hans G Hornung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.
