Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven: A Revelation N sending forth his disciples to proclaim the good tidings that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, anticipating the probable rejection of their testimony, Jesus said, Nevertheless be ye sure of this, the Kingdom of God is come nigh. Long before his disciples were able to discern the true spiritual significance of that kingdom, to them it was 'given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, for they were witnesses of their outward manifestation long before they were spiritually pre pared to understand, or enter into, that state of blessedness through purity of heart and faith in God. No argument accompanied their announcement of the glad tidings, they simply proclaimed the good news; the attestation of its truth was independent of their own minds. Download or read book What Is the Kingdom of Heaven Classic Reprint written by A. Clutton Brock and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What Is the Kingdom of Heaven? I hope that in this book I may not seen to express a greater hostility to Christian orthodoxy than I feel. As I owe all that I most firmly believe to that orthodoxy, I should be ungrateful if I spoke of it with enmity or contempt. But orthodoxy can be living only if it is ready to confess that it may have made mistakes even on the most vital points. The mistake which I believe it has made, and which I try to point out in this book, is really one of emphasis. It would be easy to quote passages from Christian writers, all through the ages, against my contention that Christ's doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven has been ignored. But these passages would not prove that any church has laid that emphasis on the doctrine which Christ Himself laid on it, or that there has been a sustained effort to understand the doctrine or to state it clearly and fully. The doctrine is not the centre of Christian thought and teaching; and in this book I contend that it ought to be. Book The Kingdom of God Or Reign of Heaven Among Men Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Kingdom of God Or Reign of Heaven Among Men Classic Reprint written by Francis Asa Wight and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God, or Reign of Heaven Among Men The law in hermeneutics The Unity of Truth has been fully recognised and it is the greatest joy to see all Scripture, whether in the Old or New Testament, that bears upon this theme brought into complete harmony. Every verse has been given its most obvious meaning; for most certainly the Lord knows how to express truth in the clearest way and He means what He says, and says exactly what He desired to say; and all twisting or strain ing of the Scriptures is insulting to God. Beware of the commentator who magnifies obscure truths, putting them in a place of great promlnence. God's light is not put under a bushel waiting for some visionary to lift it Off. AS it is absolutely necessary for a surveyor to find first his beginning corner before he runs his lines, so it is just as essential for a student to find the beginning of God's kingdom, that John and Jesus proclaimed to be at hand, before he can understand the purpose, nature or place of the kingdom of God in the earth. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven A theme on which so much has been written offers little scope for originality. I venture, however, to cherish the hope that the presentation of the material may help some of those who are engaged in the practical work of preach ing and teaching to a better understanding of the central message of our Lord's ministry. I have to express my obligations to my friend, Rev. Sydney Cave, D.D Principal of Cheshunt College, who has read most of the manuscript and has made valuable suggestions, and to my wife, who has assisted in reading the proofs and in preparing the index. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Kingdom of Heaven I Believe! Those were the first words I said on this earth. But I said them at a time when I could not speak, and at a time when I could not believe - as a newborn infant. I then took upon myself a serious vow to resist the devil and to believe in God as the Almighty Creator and Redeemer. By this vow I received baptism, and became a Christian. Is that a legal compact? I ask the lawyers who, in matters relating to the law, require a personal affirmation and signature; I ask the moralists who, in regard to all human acts, good and bad, take consciousness and free-will for granted. I ask: Is it a legal compact that the Church makes with the ignorant child? Nay, I do not consider that to be binding which my godfather promised on my behalf. I could not believe solely, because he affirmed in my name: "I believe." About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint written by Ian Maclaren and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God When the forerunner's voice was stifled in the dungeon of Herod, Jesus caught up his word and preached the Utopia of John with a wider vision and sweeter note. The hereditary dream of the Jew passed through the soul of Jesus and was transformed. The local widened into the univer sal; the material was raised to the spiritual. A Jewish state with Jerusalem for its capital, and a greater David for its king, changed at the touch of Jesus into a moral kingdom whose throne should be in the heart and its borders coterminous with the race. The largeness of Jesus' mind is its glory and its misfortune. The magnificent conception was refused by His countrymen because their God was a national Deity; it has been too often re duced by His disciples because they have no hori zon. They have been apt to think that Christian ity is an extremely clever scheme by which a lim ited number of souls will secure Heaven - a rocket apparatus for a shipwrecked crew. Perhaps there fore outside people should be excused for speaking of Christianity as a system of the higher selfish ness, because they have some grounds for their misunderstanding. Every one ought to read Jesus' own words and he'would find that Jesus did not live and die to afford select Pharisees an immunity from the burden of their fellow men, but to found a Kingdom that would be the salvation of the world. The time is at hand that the least shall be greatest. The spiritual has not as yet set and fixed rules firmly established, nor can it have until the cry goes forth for equity and justice. Then comes the awakening, for the soul is crushed, and cries out as did Saul, What wilt thou have me do i The law through Moses came, then the prophets were sent to us, but now we want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, which gives us the standard, the true rock of reason. It is then we are blest by the new dispensation, for the truth sets all free, every tribe, tongue and nation.
