Download or read book Mansfield s Book of Manly Men written by Stephen Mansfield and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Witty, compelling, and shrewd, Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men is about resurrecting your inborn, timeless, essential, masculine self. The Western world is in a crisis of discarded honor, dubious integrity, and faux manliness. It is time to recover what we have lost. Stephen Mansfield shows us the way. Working with timeless maxims and stirring examples of manhood from ages past, Mansfield issues a trumpet call of manliness fit for our times. In Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men, you’ll see that: This book is about doing. It is about action. It is about knowing the deeds that comprise manhood and doing those deeds. Habits have to be formed, and actions have to be aligned with the grace received. “My goal in this book is simple,” Mansfield says. “I want to identify what a genuine man does?the virtues, the habits, the disciplines, the duties, the actions of true manhood?and then call men to do it.”

Book The Collected Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge Volume 14

Download or read book The Collected Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge Volume 14 written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 of 2. Coleridge's nephew, son-in-law, and first editor, Henry Nelson Coleridge, began at the end of 1822 a record of Coleridge's remarks as a way of preparing an anthology of the interests and thought of the great poet and critic. His manuscripts, gathered to form the major text of his new edition, include passages on relatives, friends, and various censorable topics omitted from the Table Talk of 1835 and unpublished until now. These two volumes also contain talk recorded by other listeners from 1798 until Coleridge's death in 1834. Some of these records have not been previously published; some are published from manuscripts that differ from versions previously known. Also included are previously unpublished remarks by Wordsworth. Along with a bibliography of earlier editions of Table Talk and other useful appendixes, Carl Woodring's edition reprints the second edition (1836), which differs from the manuscripts more extensively than the edition of 1835. THis is the first fully annotated edition of a work that long remained more popular in the United Kingdom than any of the works in prose published by Coleridge himself. The two volumes make a convenient encyclopedia of his ideas and interests. Carl Woodring is George Edward Woodberry Professor of Literature Emeritus at Columbia University. Originally published in 1990. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 835 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'The Art of Strategy: Napoleon's Maxims of War + Clausewitz's On War', readers are presented with a compelling compilation that bridges the tactical genius of Napoleon Bonaparte and the strategic depth of Carl von Clausewitz, offering a panoramic view of military strategy across the tumult of European history. This anthology juxtaposes the concise, pragmatic wisdom of Napoleons military maxims against the philosophical, in-depth analysis provided by Clausewitz in 'On War', creating a rich tapestry of military thought. The diversity of literary styles from the aphoristic to the analytical adds a dynamic layer to the reading experience, facilitating a deeper understanding of warfares complexities and the strategic mind. The contributing authors, Napoleon and Clausewitz, are monumental figures in military history and theory, hailing from distinct yet overlapping eras. Napoleon, an emperor and military commander whose campaigns are studies in operational brilliance, and Clausewitz, a Prussian general and military theorist known for his profound philosophical insights into war, together encapsulate the evolution of early modern European military thought. Their writings, rooted in the Napoleonic Wars, reflect the pivotal shift from the age of linear tactics to the onset of total war, offering readers a nuanced perspective of military strategy through the lens of those who lived it. 'The Art of Strategy' is an indispensable read for those keen on exploring the intricate dance of warfare and strategy through the ages. This anthology not only serves as a bridge connecting the tactical acumen of Napoleon with the strategic profundity of Clausewitz but also invites readers into a dialogue with historys most revered military minds. For students of military history, enthusiasts of strategic thought, and scholars alike, this collection offers a unique chance to engage with the timeless lessons of war, distilled through the experiences and reflections of two of its greatest exponents.
