This study will help you understand the scope of this gospel, the clear advice it offers for the church, and its personal implications for the lives of disciples today.

Book Matthew s Messianic Shepherd king

Download or read book Matthew s Messianic Shepherd king written by Joel Willitts and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2007 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In two places in the First Gospel (Matt 10:5b-6; 15:24) the Messianic mission of Jesus and his disciples is limited to a group called 'the lost sheep of the house of Israel'. In light of Matthew's intense interest in Jesus' Davidic Messiahship and the Jewish Shepard-King traditions surrounding King David it is argued that the 'lost sheep of the house of Israel'refers to remnants of the former northern kingdom of Israel who continued to reside in the northern region of the ideal Land of Israel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus is the eternal King... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the gospel of Matthew in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. At first glance, it seems surprising that Jesus would call a man like Matthew to become one of His disciples. As a small-time tax collector, Matthew would have been despised by the Jewish people, who viewed those in the profession as traitors to Rome. But the fact that Matthew was educated, literate, and also familiar with Jewish law and customs made him the ideal candidate to not only accompany Jesus during His earthly ministry but also record all that he witnessed. The result is the Gospel we have today. Matthew shows how Jesus, as the promised Messiah and eternal King, is worthy of our hope and our complete devotion. Each of this study's twelve lessons is clearly organized to include: Getting Started: An opening question to introduce you to the lesson. Setting the Stage: A short reflection to explain the context of the study. Exploring the Text: The Scripture reading for the lesson with related study questions. Reviewing the Story: Questions to help you identify key points in the reading. Applying the Message: Questions to help you apply the key ideas to their lives. Reflecting on the Meaning: A closing reflection on the key teachings in the lesson. —ABOUT THE SERIES— The Jeremiah Bible Study Series captures Dr. David Jeremiah's forty-plus years of commitment in teaching the Word of God. In each study, you'll gain insights into the text, identify key stories and themes, and be challenged to apply the truths you uncover to your life. By the end of each study, you'll come away with a clear and memorable understanding of that Bible book. Each study also contains a Leader's Guide.

Download or read book The Gospel of Matthew written by Edward Hindson and published by Twenty-First Century Biblical. This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Matthew is all about the King-the King of the Jews, the King who came to die to save His subjects, the King who is coming again to establish His millennial kingdom, the King of Kings. That King is Jesus Christ. Matthew focuses on both the first and second comings of Christ, with the assurance that in both cases, indeed the King is coming! Matthew, the tax collector turned disciple, writes to Jewish believers and unbelievers alike. For the believers, he emphasizes the legitimacy of Jesus as the long-awaited Jewish Messiah. For the unbelievers, he portrays the One who is the Savior of all people everywhere. His arguments are cogent, his style is vibrant, and his portrayal of Christ is magnificent. Charles Spurgeon said it best when he proclaimed, "Come just as you are, all guilty, empty, meritless and fall before the great King. And see it He will cast you away. Jesus is ready to pardon you...never tolerate low thoughts of Him. You may study, look and meditate, but Jesus is a greater Savior than you think Him to be, even when your thoughts are at their highest." Throughout Matthew's gospel, he draws our attention to the One who is the rightful King of Israel. Jesus is portrayed as being born a King, living and dying as a King, and coming again as the ultimate King of Kings. As you read this gospel and study this commentary, you will be challenged to become His disciple and follow Him wherever He leads you. A commentary for the twenty-first century, Study questions at the end of each chapter, Challenges you to follow the king wherever he leads you. Book jacket.

Book excerpt: All my books can be read online free at wayneodonnell.com. “Freely you have received, freely give” (Mt. 10:8). This booklet is one section out of my book "Physical and Spiritual Salvation: Justification, Sanctification, Glorification, the Messianic Kingdom, & Ezekiel’s Temple in Ezekiel 40-48, Matthew, Romans, & 1 John." Contrary to popular belief, the Jews of Jesus’ generation didn’t reject him because they were expecting a physical kingdom, while he offered a spiritual kingdom. Jesus’ offered a physical kingdom on earth just like they were expecting. Dan. 2 described the kingdom Jesus offered as “the kingdom of the God of heaven.” This can be shortened to “the kingdom of God,” or “the kingdom of heaven,” or just “the kingdom,” as in, “Thy kingdom come.” The New Testament makes it clear the reason Israel rejected Jesus was because he rejected the rabbis’ oral law. “They asked him, saying, ‘Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days?’ so that they could accuse him. And he said to them, ... ‘It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.’ Then he said to the man, ‘Stretch forth your hand,’ ... and it was restored whole, like the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they could destroy him,” Mt. 12:10-14. The salvation God provided in Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew, which means ‘salvation’), is comprised of both spiritual and physical parts. Justification and sanctification are spiritual; but resurrection and glorification are physical. God’s workings with Israel are in the physical realm, the realm where genealogies matter. “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham,” Mt. 1:1. Much misinterpretation of scripture, like that of Reformed Theology, is due to the felt need to leave the principle of literal interpretation of scripture because of the failure to differentiate between things like personal spiritual salvation and national physical salvation. Jesus’ ministry changed after the rejection. It’s critical to understand this in order to understand the Gospel of Matthew. This shows that dispensationalism is true, and Reformed theology is false, since things haven’t always continued the same in all times, and not even in Jesus’ ministry.

Book Recognizing the Messiah s Message

Download or read book Recognizing the Messiah s Message written by Jeffrey Leath and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hebrews were waiting for the Messiah to come and set them free; free from the bondage of the Roman enemy. But then, announced to a group of shepherds one night, the Messiah arrived, was wrapped in strips of cloth, and took His royal position in a feed trough. This was the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world! He was given authority from His Father. He would show signs of His Messiahship and have a great following because of His miraculous healings; even bringing the dead back to life! But His message was confusing to some. He didn’t meet the expectations of the Messiah. He said that we should love our enemies. He said that God was a loving heavenly Father and even referred to Him as “Daddy” (Abba Father). And then there was His message of relating to God through humility. Matthew’s writing helped the early Hebrew Christians recognize Jesus is the Messiah; an important message that encourages one to stand firmly in faith. Recognizing and identifying with the Messiah’s message will lead us to call upon our one true Teacher and Savior, Jesus Christ through whom we receive God’s loving grace and mercy.

Book The Messiah in the Old and New Testaments

Download or read book The Messiah in the Old and New Testaments written by Stanley E. Porter and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2007-04-26 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the ancients talked about "messiah", what did they picture? Did that term refer to a stately figure who would rule, to a militant who would rescue, or to a variety of roles held by many? While Christians have traditionally equated the word "messiah" with Jesus, the discussion is far more complex. This volume contributes significantly to that discussion. Ten expert scholars here address questions surrounding the concept of "messiah" and clarify what it means to call Jesus "messiah." The book comprises two main parts, first treating those writers who preceded or surrounded the New Testament (two essays on the Old Testament and two on extrabiblical literature) and then discussing the writers of the New Testament. Concluding the volume is a critical response by Craig Evans to both sections. This volume will be helpful to pastors and laypersons wanting to explore the nature and identity of the Messiah in the Old and New Testament in order to better understand Jesus as Messiah.

Book The Rejection of the Humble Messianic King

Download or read book The Rejection of the Humble Messianic King written by Donald Verseput and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1986 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the prominence of Matthew's anti-Jewish polemic has been widely recognized in recent years, curiously little attention has thus far been given to the contribution made by chapters 11 and 12 to this theme. Often dismissed as a loose compendium of controversy-stories, this narrative section actually displays a solid, thematic unity dealing with the tragic fact of Jesus'rejection by the covenant people, Israel. Matthew's usually thoughtful style is evident in these chapters as he proceeds in a quite independent manner to clarify the unexpectedly humble nature of the messianic mission, the consequences of its rejection and the identity of the true people of God.

The Book of Revelation is perhaps the most mysterious, difficult-to-understand book in all of the Bible. Scholar after scholar, theologian after theologian have wrestled with all the strange visions, images and messages given by Yochanan (John), one of Yeshua's apostles.

Book excerpt: What does the first book of the New Testament teach? As the first gospel, the book of Matthew is a bridge between the Old Testament and the New. It presents Jesus as the Messiah predicted in the Old Testament, but also as the Savior whose death was necessary for the salvation of mankind. Yet Matthew also describes the future Kingdom of Jesus when He will reign on earth at His Second Coming. In this fourth volume of the renewed Walvoord Commentary Series, renowned biblical scholar and prophecy expert John Walvoord, along with Dr. Charles Dyer, walks readers through the gospel of Matthew chapter by chapter and unfolds his message of Jesus’ Messianic identity, teachings, miracles, and future return as victorious King. Revised and updated throughout and based on the text of the English Standard Version (ESV), this new edition of Walvoord’s commentary will serve a whole new generation of pastors, leaders, and laypeople.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus! Savior, Redeemer, Risen Lord-Eternal King!Crowds of people had been following Jesus throughout Galilee, Judea, and Jericho. They watched Him heal the broken, be merciful to outcasts, preach of God's kingdom, and most recently, raise Lazarus from the dead. Is this Jesus the Messiah? Is He the One who would bring peace and deliverance to the nation of Israel while ushering in God's kingdom? Some believed, many questioned, but the religious rulers sought to discredit and kill Him. One week before His death, Jesus rode into Jerusalem as a humble King of peace. Crowds of people stood by crying, "Save now, Son of David!" But His deliverance would not be temporal, it would be eternal. He would not release the Jews from the Roman oppression at that time but would conquer all evil. The very peace that defined Jesus would be the peace He would put in the hearts of those who believed Him to be the Messiah. Determined to make Him King, the people shouted His praise and adulation. But seeing the cross in the distance, Jesus knew He would not receive the heavenly crown until He wore the earthly crown of thorns put upon Him by the people. Jesus' method, timing, and the meaning of His entrance were all prophesied long before. Jesus knew that His entry into Jerusalem would lead the way to His triumphant resurrection from the dead. The initial shouts of praise would quickly turn to shouts of crucifixion just days later. The chant of "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest," would turn to "Crucify Him." Without rightful cause, the religious leaders, Roman government, and the people would condemn Jesus to death on the cross. During Passover, Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, would be killed for the sins of the people. However, the cross couldn't destroy Him, the tomb couldn't hold Him, and three days later Jesus would be raised to life as our risen Lord and eternal King. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Messiah, the One prophesied to take away the sins of the world, redeeming each one who believes in Him and saving us from our sins. His kingdom is now in the hearts of His people, and His eternal kingdom is coming with His return. Join us in this seven-week verse-by-verse study of Jesus' final entrance into Jerusalem and His road to Calvary. Volume 3 of Delighting in the King of Kings can be done in conjunction with volume 1 and 2, or it can be used as a stand-alone study.
