Book Mathematical Models and Computer Solution for the Equations of Motion of Surface Ships and Submarines in Six Degrees of Freedom

Download or read book Mathematical Models and Computer Solution for the Equations of Motion of Surface Ships and Submarines in Six Degrees of Freedom written by Edgardo Juan Romero and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the standard equations of motion, mathematical models are developed and standardized for simulation in analog or digital computers. A complete study is done of simulation techniques as applied to the mathematical models. A new technique for simulation of very complex systems of equations including nonlinearities is developed. The model can be used in control studies. Digital simulations of the dynamics of the semisubmerged ship and a submarine in six degrees of freedom are done. This latter with all the nonlinearities and cross-coupling terms included. (Author).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by TPRC at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemina tion phases of the activity was transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we have concluded that it will be in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by a well-known publishing house to assure improved service and better communication. Hence, effective with this Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences will be disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. As we embark on this new partnership with Plenum, we also initiate a new venture in that this important annual reference work now covers Canadian universities as well as those in the United States. We are sure that this broader base will greatly enhance the value of these volumes.

Book Time Domain Mathematical Model for Six degree of freedom Motion in a Wave

Download or read book Time Domain Mathematical Model for Six degree of freedom Motion in a Wave written by Joonyun Kang and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To assess the behaviour of a ship in a seaway, this thesis presents the development of an integrated mathematical model describing a six-degree-of-freedom motion of a ship in a wave. This integrated mathematical model is developed with its fundamental base on both traditional seakeeping and manoeuvring theories and thus obtaining of hydrodynamic data sets as well as formulation of force component are needed in a theoretical manner. To obtain the hydrodynamic data sets, theoretical formulations and numerical implementations are carried out for a ship travelling in a wave. The theoretical formulation of three-dimensional potential flow leads boundary integral equations over mean wetted body surface with three-dimensional translating pulsating Green function. For numerical implementation Constant Panel Method and Higher-Order Panel Method are introduced as distribution technique of source singularities over the idealised body surface and compared for the estimation of hydrodynamic data set of Wigley and Todd Series 60. Mean second-order wave forces are formulated based on the solution of first-order problem and obtained by direct pressure integration over mean wetted body surface. The effects of forward speed and wave heading on the drift force and added resistance are investigated and compare with experimental data. An integrated mathematical model for manoeuvring motion is further developed with functional form of memory effect represented by convolution integrals of impulse response function to describe arbitrary ship motion in a seaway. For validation of developed numerical tool, benchmark tests have been performed for the prediction of large amplitude ship motion in following seas. Standard manoeuvring tests, turning circle and zig-zag manoeuvres, are presented to demonstrate the wave effects on the manoeuvring performance. The capability of numerical tool has been extended to the prediction of highly non-linear behaviours of parametric rolling phenomenon in longitudinal wave with reasonable accuracy.

Book Unsteady Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations of Six Degrees of freedom Submarine Manoeuvres

Download or read book Unsteady Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations of Six Degrees of freedom Submarine Manoeuvres written by Mark Bettle and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Submarine hydrodynamicists are continually striving to improve submarine manoeuvring predictions in order to better understand operational limitations. Traditional manoeuvring simulations use semi-empirical force estimation methods or captive model experiments to predict hydrodynamic forces and moments on the manoeuvring submarine. Semi-empirical methods are inexpensive and fast but not consistently accurate. Coefficient-based models derived from captive model experiments are more accurate but much more expensive. Time-history effects are also difficult to incorporate in coefficient-based modelling and are thus often neglected. The effect of the seabed and other passing vessels are also not included in traditional models. In order to address these issues, an unsteady, six degrees-of-freedom (DOF), Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) submarine simulation approach has been developed and applied to simulating the emergency rising manoeuvre and the interaction between a submarine and a passing tanker. In this method, the 6 DOF motion of the full-scale submarine is integrated simultaneously with the RANS solution for fluid forces. Coefficient-based modelling is used for the propeller, control-surface deflections, and ballast blowing in order to achieve economical solutions while accounting for the important viscous effects. The submarine motion is integrated implicitly using a robust predictor-corrector approach that uses a novel application of semiempirical and coefficient-based models to accelerate convergence at each timestep. A combination of sliding interfaces and mesh deformation is used to account for the relative motion between the tanker and submarine. Simulation results reproduce the roll-instability observed for buoyantly rising submarines and provide insight on the magnitude of the disturbance forces and submarine motions induced by a large tanker passing over a diesel-electric submarine.
