Book Handbook of Peer to Peer Networking

Download or read book Handbook of Peer to Peer Networking written by Xuemin (Sherman) Shen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 1500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peer-to-peer networking is a disruptive technology for large scale distributed app- cations that has recently gained wide interest due to the successes of peer-to-peer (P2P) content sharing, media streaming, and telephony applications. There are a large range of other applications under development or being proposed. The - derlying architectures share features such as decentralizaton, sharing of end system resources, autonomy, virtualization, and self-organization. These features constitute the P2P paradigm. This handbook broadly addresses a large cross-section of c- rent research and state-of-the-art reports on the nature of this paradigm from a large number of experts in the ?eld. Several trends in information and network technology such as increased perf- mance and deployment of broadband networking, wireless networking, and mobile devices are synergistic with and reinforcing the capabilities of the P2P paradigm. There is general expectation in the technical community that P2P networking will continue to be an important tool for networked applications and impact the evo- tion of the Internet. A large amount of research activity has resulted in a relatively short time, and a growing community of researchers has developed. The Handbook of Peer-to-Peer Networking is dedicated to discussions on P2P networks and their applications. This is a comprehensive book on P2P computing.

Book The Mathematics of Marine Modelling

Download or read book The Mathematics of Marine Modelling written by Henk Schuttelaars and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades, numerical simulation has become instrumental in understanding the dynamics of seas, coastal regions and estuaries. The decision makers rely more and more frequently on model results for the management of these regions. Some modellers are insufficiently aware of the theoretical underpinning of the simulation tools they are using. On the other hand, a number of applied mathematicians tend to view marine sciences as a domain in which they would like to use the tools they have a good command of. Bridging the gap between model users and applied mathematicians is the main objective of the present book. In this respect a vast number of issues in which mathematics plays a crucial role will be addressed.

Book Immunochemical Approaches to Coastal Estuarine and Oceanographic Questions

Download or read book Immunochemical Approaches to Coastal Estuarine and Oceanographic Questions written by Clarice M. Yentsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents a collection of pioneering papers introducing immunochemical techniques to the aquatic sciences. It is the product of a workshop entitled "Immunochemical Approaches to Coastal, Estuarine and Oceanographic Questions" held at the University of Southern Maine, Portland, Oct. 5-7, 1986. Funding from many sources made this workshop possible, and is gratefully acknowledged. The reader will note great variability in both the quality and scope of the papers which we have divided 'into four sections: I. Background material on the immune system (borrowed from a recent NIH publication) II. Background material related to aquatic sciences III. Techniques IV. Applications Readers familiar with terminology are directed to start with the original contributions related to aquatic sciences, page 21. Some of the contributions are abstracts only. Others are preliminary, for which we are grateful to the authors for their willingness to share recent sometimes tentative findings with a broader community. Some offer novel and tempting insights, but as they exist, lack adequate standards and controls. Others are thorough and represent major scientific contributions. The promise rests in generating and working with reagents of great specificity enabling orders of magnitude improvements in the sensitivity of our measurements. Authors also address the problems and limitations. We thank the numerous authors and reviewers. In support of every successful endeavor is someone of unusual savvy. For us, this has been David A. Phinney. His leadership, wisdom and wit have been important to the introduction of flow cytometry/sorting and immunochemistry into aquatic research.

Book Hydrodynamics of Estuaries

Download or read book Hydrodynamics of Estuaries written by B. Kjerfve and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These books are divided into two volumes. The first focuses on estuarine physics and physical processes and interpretations. I have, for the most parts, intentionally downplayed engineering applications to estuaries. It is my bias that a deeper understanding is accomplished with a physical approach, whereas an engineering approach is largely geared toward finding a solution to a problem. Of course, it is not always easy to make this distinction. The second volume is a presentation of physical case studies of several important estuaries, spanning the major geomorphic types. I believe that it can be very useful to all areas of the world. I have consciously strived to be more international to scope in selection of both authors and estuarine case studies.

Book Handbook of Ecological Models used in Ecosystem and Environmental Management

Download or read book Handbook of Ecological Models used in Ecosystem and Environmental Management written by Sven Erik Jorgensen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that roughly 1000 new ecological and environmental models join the ranks of the scientific literature each year. The international peer-reviewed literature reports some 20,000 new models spanning the period from 1970-2010. Just to keep abreast of the field it is necessary to design a handbook of models that doesn't merely list them,

Book Finite Elements in Water Resources

Download or read book Finite Elements in Water Resources written by J. P. Laible and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the edited proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Finite Elements in Water Resources, held at the University of Vermont, USA in June 1984. This Conference cont inues the successful series started at Princeton University in 1976, followed by the Conference in Imperial College, London, UK in 1978, the third Conference at the University of Mississippi, USA in 1980 and the fourth at the University of Hannover, Germany in 1982. The objective of this Conference is to provide engineers and scientists interested in water resources with the state-of-t- art on finite element modelling. The Proceedings review the basic theory and applications of the technique in groundwater and seepage, transport phenomena, viscous flow, river, lake and ocean modelling. The fundamentals of the numerical techniques employed in finite elements are also discussed. Many applications illus trate the versatility and generality of the Finite Element Method for the simulation of a wide range of problems in water resources. More recent schemes, in particular, boundary elements, are also presented, together with a series of advanced numerical techniques. The Conference has become an internationally accepted forum for the presentation of new developments of finite elements in water resources techniques. Because of this, a large number of abstracts were submitted to the Organizing Committee and it is our only reg ret that it was impossible to accept all these contributions. The overwhelming response to our Call for Papers has ensured the high quality of these proceedings.
