Each paper has been reviewed by at least three independent referees — PC members and/or sub-referees appointed by them. The papers were se lected for presentation during a fully electronic virtual meeting of the program committee on May 7, 1999. The virtual PC meeting was supported by software written by Artur Zgoda, Ph.D. student at the University of Wroclaw. The entire communication and access to quite a sensitive database at PC headquarters in Wroclaw was secured by cryptographic protocols based on technology of certificates.

Book Mathematical Foundations of Programming Semantics

Download or read book Mathematical Foundations of Programming Semantics written by Stephen Brookes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-05-20 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on the Mathematical Foundations of Programming Semantics, held in New Orleans in April 1993. The focus of the conference series is the semantics of programming languages and the mathematics which supports the study of the semantics. The semantics is basically denotation. The mathematics may be classified as category theory, lattice theory, or logic. Recent conferences and workshops have increasingly emphasized applications of the semantics and mathematics. The study of the semantics develops with the mathematics and the mathematics is inspired by the applications in semantics. The volume presents current research in denotational semantics and applications of category theory, logic, and lattice theory to semantics.

Download or read book Concrete Mathematics written by Ronald L. Graham and published by Addison-Wesley Professional. This book was released on 1994-02-28 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the mathematics that supports advanced computer programming and the analysis of algorithms. The primary aim of its well-known authors is to provide a solid and relevant base of mathematical skills - the skills needed to solve complex problems, to evaluate horrendous sums, and to discover subtle patterns in data. It is an indispensable text and reference not only for computer scientists - the authors themselves rely heavily on it! - but for serious users of mathematics in virtually every discipline. Concrete Mathematics is a blending of CONtinuous and disCRETE mathematics. "More concretely," the authors explain, "it is the controlled manipulation of mathematical formulas, using a collection of techniques for solving problems." The subject matter is primarily an expansion of the Mathematical Preliminaries section in Knuth's classic Art of Computer Programming, but the style of presentation is more leisurely, and individual topics are covered more deeply. Several new topics have been added, and the most significant ideas have been traced to their historical roots. The book includes more than 500 exercises, divided into six categories. Complete answers are provided for all exercises, except research problems, making the book particularly valuable for self-study. Major topics include: Sums Recurrences Integer functions Elementary number theory Binomial coefficients Generating functions Discrete probability Asymptotic methods This second edition includes important new material about mechanical summation. In response to the widespread use of the first edition as a reference book, the bibliography and index have also been expanded, and additional nontrivial improvements can be found on almost every page. Readers will appreciate the informal style of Concrete Mathematics. Particularly enjoyable are the marginal graffiti contributed by students who have taken courses based on this material. The authors want to convey not only the importance of the techniques presented, but some of the fun in learning and using them.

Book Mathematical Foundations Of Parallel Computing

Download or read book Mathematical Foundations Of Parallel Computing written by V V Voevodin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-03-24 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel implementation of algorithms involves many difficult problems. In particular among them are round-off analysis, the way to convert sequential programs and algorithms into the parallel mode, the choice of appropriate or optimal computer architect and so on. To solve these problems, it is necessary to know very well the structure of algorithms. This book deal with the mathematical mechanism that permits us to investigate structures of both sequential and parallel algorithms. This mechanism allows us to recognize and explain the relations between different methods of constructing parallel algorithms, the methods of analysing round-off errors, the methods of optimizing memory traffic, the methods of working out the fastest implementation for a given parallel computer and other methods attending the joint investigation of algorithms and computers.
