Book The Mechanics of Finite Deformation with Applications in Metal Plasticity

Download or read book The Mechanics of Finite Deformation with Applications in Metal Plasticity written by Kerry S. Havner and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-07-03 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive background for analysis of the finite deformation of materials. It is intended for engineering scientists, applied mathematicians, and advanced students beginning their studies in the field. The book begins with the geometry of deformation and motion in finite straining. This is followed by the general theory of stress and stress measures (corresponding to each strain measure) and balance laws of continuum physics. Rotating reference frames and related issues of invariance, objective stress-rates, and material spin are then covered. Simple shearing examples illustrate and clarify stress and deformation measures in these chapters. Applications of the general equations to specific material behaviors are presented in chapters 4 to 6. Nonlinear elasticity of rubber, plastic deformation of polycrystalline metals, and multiple-slip (with additional kinematics) in metal crystals are covered. Selected original experiments and nonlinear analyses are included, with precise attributions and numerous illustrations.

Book An Introduction to Continuum Mechanics after Truesdell and Noll

Download or read book An Introduction to Continuum Mechanics after Truesdell and Noll written by D.R Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a brief introduction to rational continuum mechanics in a form suitable for students of engineering, mathematics and science. The presentation is tightly focused on the simplest case of the classical mechanics of nonpolar materials, leaving aside the effects of internal structure, temperature and electromagnetism, and excluding other mathematical models, such as statistical mechanics, relativistic mechanics and quantum mechanics. Within the limitations of the simplest mechanical theory, the author had provided a text that is largely self-contained. Though the book is primarily an introduction to continuum mechanics, the lure and attraction inherent in the subject may also recommend the book as a vehicle by which the student can obtain a broader appreciation of certain important methods and results from classical and modern analysis.

Book Computational Modeling in Biomechanics

Download or read book Computational Modeling in Biomechanics written by Suvranu De and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Availability of advanced computational technology has fundamentally altered the investigative paradigm in the field of biomechanics. Armed with sophisticated computational tools, researchers are seeking answers to fundamental questions by exploring complex biomechanical phenomena at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organ levels. The computational armamentarium includes such diverse tools as the ab initio quantum mechanical and molecular dynamics methods at the atomistic scales and the finite element, boundary element, meshfree as well as immersed boundary and lattice-Boltzmann methods at the continuum scales. Multiscale methods that link various scales are also being developed. While most applications require forward analysis, e.g., finding deformations and stresses as a result of loading, others involve determination of constitutive parameters based on tissue imaging and inverse analysis. This book provides a glimpse of the diverse and important roles that modern computational technology is playing in various areas of biomechanics including biofluids and mass transfer, cardiovascular mechanics, musculoskeletal mechanics, soft tissue mechanics, and biomolecular mechanics.

Book Topics in Finite Elasticity

Download or read book Topics in Finite Elasticity written by Michael Hayes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than fifty years ago, Professor R. S. Rivlin pioneered developments in both the theory and experiments of rubber elasticity. These together with his other fundamental studies contributed to a revitalization of the theory of finite elasticity, which had been dormant, since the basic understanding was completed in the nineteenth century. This book with chapters on foundation, models, universal results, wave propagation, qualitative theory and phase transitions, indicates that the subject he reinvigorated has remainded remarkably vibran and has continued to present significant deep mathematical and experimental challenges.
