It covers everyday dental techniques that require the dentist to precisely match dental materials to patients' teeth. The book's nine easy-to-read chapters serve as a basis for color training - from colorimetry and the properties of natural teeth, to the specifics of color perception and reproduction of color. The accompanying CD-ROM uses interactive color-block exercises to train and test users on discerning lightness, hue, and chroma changes, as well as total color differences. Short, easy-to-read chapters present only the most important concepts of each topic, allowing for quick completion and comprehension. The newest techniques in esthetic dentistry are presented, with implications for the future of each topic. Full-color, high-quality art program serves as an instrumental tool in learning about color and shading, providing color images for reference. A total of 31 expert contributors from a variety of dental schools lend their experience and knowledge of color and dental materials, ensuring accuracy of all material. Interactive "drag-and-drop" exercises on CD-ROM sharpen users' color-matching skills by challenging them to arrange color blocks. CD-ROM exercises are logically ordered from least complex to most difficult, so that as users master topics, the next exercises expand upon concepts and challenge users to recall concepts and techniques. CD-ROM exercises can be performed multiple times for unlimited practice.

Book The Impact of the Optical Phenomena of Color Adjustment Potential and Kubelka Munk Layering of Dental Composite Resins on Modern Esthetic Dentistry

Download or read book The Impact of the Optical Phenomena of Color Adjustment Potential and Kubelka Munk Layering of Dental Composite Resins on Modern Esthetic Dentistry written by Melody Noelle Carney and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The capability to effectively use dental materials in a manner that creates the best esthetic result is a mandatory and relevant process to the modern field of dentistry. The role that esthetics plays within the larger context of overall appearance can have considerable consequences on the overall satisfaction of a patient. Various optical phenomena govern the visual perception and measurement of a color. These optical properties lend themselves to the potential ability to objectively select colors in a systematic way that eliminates the subjective nature of current shade matching methods when using dental materials to match the dentition. In addition, better esthetic composite materials may be developed by understanding and exploiting these same principles. Some of these factors prove to be of particular importance to dentistry by way of principles that affect the visual nature of teeth. Both the blending effect or color adjustment potential and the layering effect derived from the Kubelka-Munk Theories of Reflection are two such phenomena that are of special interest to dentistry in terms of color matching a restoration to the natural tooth to achieve the best esthetic result.

This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work at hand deals with restorative dental materials that are being used for the treatment of the most common dental disease – dental caries (but for treatment of cuneiform erosions as well). The materials this work talks about are dental amalgams (metallic dental restorative material), dental resin composites, and glass-ionomer cements. This work looks at these materials from the perspective of their physical and chemical properties that influence the clinical efficiency of these materials (the quality of restorations).

Book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.
