Book Mastering Scientific and Medical Writing

Download or read book Mastering Scientific and Medical Writing written by Silvia M. Rogers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-01-20 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If any man wish to write in a clear style, let him frst be clear in his thoughts. ” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe You may ask why anyone would want to write yet another book about scientifc writing. Tere are many books on the subject, some more useful than others, and the abundance of literature on this topic may confuse rather than guide. I felt that this book was necessary for several reasons. During the past years, I have learnt much about the needs of scientifc communicators, both through my personal experience as a pharmacologist and, later, through teaching scientifc writing at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and other institutions. In today’s busy world, guidance on scientifc writing must be focused and to the point. Our constraints no longer permit the ti- consuming search for the “correct” word or formulation. Moreover, the speed by which we produce a manuscript has become increasingly important, be it in academia or the pharmaceutical industry. Scientists ofen fnd it difcult to accept that their professional success essentially depends on their skill and efciency to communicate their research results. Without any doubt, the rapid exchange of pertinent information is critical to scientifc advancement and should therefore be regarded with due respect. A second, perhaps even more important reason for writing this book is my personal concern for everyone challenged to write high-quality texts in a language that is not his or her native tongue.

Book Teaching for Mastery in Writing

Download or read book Teaching for Mastery in Writing written by Mike Cain and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-09 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching for Mastery in Writing provides a practical approach to developing mastery in writing which helps all primary children to develop their skills and inspires a love of writing. This innovative book follows an approach that integrates mastery into existing teaching sequences – an approach which aims to improve the writing ability of all children, not just the more able. Writing is a tough discipline for children in today's primary schools. The number of skills they are expected to learn is a source of amazement to many adults outside education. It is no easier to teach, not least because of the many and varied demands on schools, including the National Curriculum, SPaG tests, assessment frameworks and inspections. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that teachers focus on helping children become the most effective communicators they can be through the medium of writing. Throughout the book, Mike Cain promotes the importance of a classroom culture characterised by focused talk and reasoning, and provides lots of ideas for challenging children in their writing through the development of key learning dispositions and critical thinking skills.

Book Writing With Power

Download or read book Writing With Power written by Peter Elbow and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1998-07-09 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic handbook for anyone who needs to write, Writing With Power speaks to everyone who has wrestled with words while seeking to gain power with them. Here, Peter Elbow emphasizes that the essential activities underlying good writing and the essential exercises promoting it are really not difficult at all. Employing a cookbook approach, Elbow provides the reader (and writer) with various recipes: for getting words down on paper, for revising, for dealing with an audience, for getting feedback on a piece of writing, and still other recipes for approaching the mystery of power in writing. In a new introduction, he offers his reflections on the original edition, discusses the responses from people who have followed his techniques, how his methods may differ from other processes, and how his original topics are still pertinent to today's writer. By taking risks and embracing mistakes, Elbow hopes the writer may somehow find a hold on the creative process and be able to heighten two mentalities--the production of writing and the revision of it. From students and teachers to novelists and poets, Writing with Power reminds us that we can celebrate the uses of mystery, chaos, nonplanning, and magic, while achieving analysis, conscious control, explicitness, and care in whatever it is we set down on paper.

Book ENGLISH WRITING DEVELOPMENT

Download or read book ENGLISH WRITING DEVELOPMENT written by LIXIA WEI and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English Writing Development: 4MAT Learning Style and Thinking Visualization Strategies is designed as an introductory course in English writing for students, teachers and all those who consider writing is important and fun. It is based on the author’s own experience of teaching English writing to undergraduates who major in English, and training students to participate in provincial and national English writing contests. Instead of showing the skeleton of writing to readers directly, the author integrates the 4MAT Process Approach that she has developed on the basis of the 4MAT learning style and the Process Approach into the design of the book, aiming to increase learners’ motivation by answering why they should learn, what they should learn, how they should apply what they have learnt and what if the situation changes in each chapter. With corpora, news and students’ work as resources to collect sample sentences, paragraphs and essays, the author elaborates eight main aspects which are writing process, writing a paragraph, writing an essay, methods of paragraph development, types of clause, types of sentence, rhetorical devices, paraphrase and summary. English Writing Development: 4MAT Learning Style and Thinking Visualization Strategies is not only the ideal English writing textbook for students at different levels but also functions equally well as a self-tutoring textbook. The simple reader-friendly explanations coupled with interesting and meaningful examples, figures, tables and the checklists are of great help for the learners to make progress on their own. Armed with the strategies elaborated in the book, learners most probably will find that WRITING IS FUN!

Download or read book Thinking Critically in College written by Louis E. Newman and published by Radius Book Group. This book was released on 2023-03-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, a college prep book that actually prepares students for college! Almost all first-year college students discover that college courses are more academically challenging than they expected, and certainly harder than classes in high school. Thinking Critically in College explains how to do all this and more. Louis E. Newman draws on decades of experience as a professor at Carleton College and Dean of Academic Advising and Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Stanford, offering the guidance you need to succeed both in college and in life post-graduation. Unique among college prep books, Thinking Critically in College builds on the latest research in learning, spells out the key critical thinking skills you need, shows you how to tackle actual college assignments, and provides exercises throughout to reinforce the lessons. Written in a personal, engaging style, Thinking Critically in College explains how to do the work your professors will require—exactly the preparation you need, no matter what your academic background. Practical, accessible, comprehensive, and interactive, Thinking Critically in College is the definitive guide, not only for those in college or headed there, but for everyone who needs a refresher on thinking clearly.
