Book excerpt: To truly master New Testament Greek, a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary is mandatory. Mastering Greek Vocabulary offers a rapid and reasonable method for developing a working Greek vocabulary using Robinson's ingenious Cognate Group approach: allowing the student to learn the most frequent words in relationship to other words from the same stem. It does not require that one learn all the words from a given root, but it allows the student first to concentrate on terms appearing twenty-five times or more and then those used ten times or more. Once the stem is mastered, other words in the Cognate Group can be learned more easily. Additional unique features are an invaluable list of 225 identical Greek-English words; a list of derived English words; and sections concerning how prefixes and suffixes affect Greek words as well as how many prefixes and suffixes are shared by Greek and English. Mastering Greek Vocabulary gives the part of speech, a breakdown of a word's elements, and, whenever possible, a helpful memory aid. With a complete index of Greek words, it also functions like a mini-lexicon. While students may be tempted to keep this resource a secret from fellow students, teachers will want to be sure it is available.

Believe it or not, it really doesn't matter if you think you have a good memory or not. The information in this book will teach you: * Why memory is like a bicycle everyone can ride (with some minor personal adjustments). * The real reason why no one should ever be squeamish about memorization or learning a language. * Why and how some of the most famous memory skills are applicable to learning any language, especially Greek. * How you can easily create a "letter location" memory system based on the Greek alphabet. * How to quickly and easily learn and memorize the sounds of the Greek alphabet. * Unique techniques that will have you literally "tuning in" on the Greek language. * How to separate Greek words in the most effective manner for memorization. * Two secret ways you can use relaxation to aid the memorization process. These two methods alone are worth the price of this book because they will literally eliminate your stress and apprehension as you learn Greek. * And much, much more ... These techniques have been used by real language learners, most of whom previously considered themselves owners of a "bad memory," to make real strides in learning Greek vocabulary. Don't worry! None of these techniques involve brain surgery! Frankly, if you can memorize a short email address or the name of a movie, then you can use this system to memorize a language as rich and diverse as Greek. But there's really no time to lose. Every day that you are not using this simple vocabulary memorization system, you are literally stealing from yourself the joy of being able to read, speak and recall an abundance of Greek vocabulary as you easily expand the natural abilities of your mind.

Some final thoughts: Vocabulary books have been around for centuries and as with so many things that have been around for some time, they are not very fashionable and a bit boring, but they usually work very well.
