Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive, rigorous and up-to-date coverage of key issues that have emerged in the first quarter of the 21st Century in transnational construction arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Covering four general themes, this book discusses: the increasing internationalisation of dispute resolution in construction law; the increasing reliance on technology in the management of construction projects and construction arbitration/ADR; the increasing prominence of collaborative contracting in construction and infrastructure projects; the increasing importance of contractual adjudication such as dispute boards in construction and infrastructure projects; the increasing prevalence of statutory adjudication mechanisms across the world; and the greater incidence of investment disputes and disputes against States and State entities over construction and infrastructure concessions and agreements. Tapping on their substantial expertise in practice and in research, the contributor team of senior practitioners and academics in the area of construction law and dispute resolution provide readers with information that balances an intellectually rigorous academic contribution against the backdrop of real concerns raised in practice. Construction Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution is an invaluable resource for practitioners in the field, academics in arbitration and construction law, and post-graduate students in construction law and dispute resolution.

Download or read book Advances In Coastal And Ocean Engineering Vol 1 written by Philip L-f Liu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-20 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this review series is to present critical commentaries on knowledge in the field of coastal and ocean engineering. Each article will review and illuminate the development of the scientific understanding of a specific engineering topic. Critical reviews on engineering designs and practices in different countries will also be included. The first volume of the review series is a collection of five papers reviewing a wide range of research topics in coastal engineering. The first paper, written by Yeh, discusses one of the fundamental issues concerning many fluid flow problems, namely, free surface boundary conditions. In the second paper, a survey on another boundary dynamics, the seafloor dynamics is presented. Foda reviews recent studies on the nonlinear wave energy transfer into the seabed and different modes of wave-induced sediment fluidization processes in cohesive as well as in noncohesive seabeds. Several issues concerning the interactions between sediment deposit and marine structures, such as pipeline and breakwater, are also briefly reviewed. One of the active research areas in modeling wave propagation is the construction of a unified model which is valid from deep water to shallow water. Liu discusses several existing models. The sediment movement in the surf zone is a complex system. It can usually be decomposed into the longshore and the cross-shore components. Dean focused his discussion on the cross-shore sediment transport process. In the last paper, van der Meer presents a comprehensive review of the design consideration for a rubble mound breakwater. Both hydraulic and structural responses are discussed. Design formulas and graphs are presented, which can be used for a conceptual design of rubble mount breakwater.

This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current book, the Author discusses the latest findings related to the theory of organisation, public management and inter-organisational collaboration. She identifies conditions and motivational patterns which increase the effectiveness of inter-organisational collaboration in the public safety management system. Using a methodology that integrates various concepts and approaches, she develops her own, innovative model of collaboration. She examines factors that impact her model’s efficiency, demonstrating that it is not only determined by legal regulations and procedures, but also by social, organisational and situational conditions. Publications such as this one, discussing a specific management system, are relatively rare in the field of inter-organisational collaboration. Therefore, the work by Katarzyna Sienkiewicz-Małyjurek deserves recognition. excerpt from a review by dr hab.
