Book Masking Power of Dental Opaque Porcelains

Download or read book Masking Power of Dental Opaque Porcelains written by G. D. Woolsey and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimum thickness of opaque porcelain over gold flash coatings has been found to be less than that over oxidized metal surfaces. The purposes of this study was to evaluate the relative opacity or masking power of five brands of dental opaque porcelain. Five shades of dental porcelain opaque from the following manufacturers: Ceramco, Biobond, Will-Ceram, Neydium, and Vita VMK-68 were evaluated. The difficulty of evaluating dental porcelain opaque by reflectance spectrophotometry, required the use of dental porcelain glaze as a diluting agent. Ten and twenty percent dilutions of each opaque were examined in the spectrum from 410-700nm. The optical infinite thickness of each dilute dental porcelain opaque was calculated from reflectance data using the Kubelka-Munk equation. Using Scheffe multiple comparisons, significant differences (P=0.05) in optical infinite thickness or relative masking power were found for each of the Bioform shades studied. Ceramco Paint-O-Pake was found to have the lowest value of optical infinite thickness for four of the five shades; for the fifth, Ceramco was statistically equal to the other brands. Neydium 'B' and Biobond were found to be intermediate in optical infinite thickness. Will-Ceram and Vita VMK-68 were found to have the highest optical thickness values of the brands evaluated.

Book Esthetic Oral Rehabilitation with Veneers

Download or read book Esthetic Oral Rehabilitation with Veneers written by Richard D. Trushkowsky and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book acquaints the clinician with the full range of parameters that need to be considered before undertaking an esthetic rehabilitation with veneers and describes current clinical concepts and techniques. The initial chapters provide the foundation for a comprehensive treatment plan. It is explained how digital smile design in conjunction with a wax-up and functional esthetic prototype allow a patient to visualize the possibilities. Occlusion prior to the initiation of treatment and following treatment is key to the longevity of restorations, and this aspect is given careful consideration. Detailed advice is also offered on proper selection of materials and their placement. The guidance provided will ensure that the reader is fully equipped to gather and assess all relevant information prior to commencement of the final treatment. The treatment itself can range from minimally invasive to more complex depending on the requirements of each individual case. Among the clinical concepts discussed in the book are the use of etched porcelain restorations, minimally invasive CAD/CAM veneers, and the ink glue technique.

Book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.
