Book What Do We Mean by Cooperative Advantage

Download or read book What Do We Mean by Cooperative Advantage written by Werner Ketelhohn and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contends that there is an alternative to the militaristic wisdom that sees competition as a battlefield and its protagonists as 'robber barons'; rather than fighting every- body, an increasing number of companies are succeeding through creating internally co-operative climates by introducing employee profit-sharing and participation, and through choosing external competitors carefully. Quotes examples of these approaches from Brazil and Germany, and how Benetton's co-operative network of subcontractors and retailers enables it to pursue a strategy of low cost, high quality and quick response to market changes; examines the advantages of negotiated arrangements with external partners over battlefields and command structures, stressing that a negotiated strategy allows a company to concentrate on its distinctive competence, while benefiting from efficiencies in its partner firms, and avoiding unnecessary overheads and diluting energy in political fighting.

Book Cooperative Marketing

Download or read book Cooperative Marketing written by W. W. Cumberland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cooperative Marketing: Its Advantages as Exemplified in the California Fruit Growers Exchange The purpose of this book is to point the way toward a better system of food distribution. The history of the cooperative movement in the citrus industry of California demonstrates by achievement the possibility of improvement over the ordinary plan for getting farm products to market. In the cooperative organizations of the citrus industry marketing machinery has been developed to a degree not even approximated in other agricultural industries. Organization is, in fact, the characteristic feature of the citrus industry, while in other industries it is usually only an insignificant factor. Without, therefore, attempting to trace the history of the movement, the text analyzes the structure of the cooperative associations of the citrus industry. The ordinary problems that face the cooperative association are reviewed, problems of organization, problems of internal management, problems of relationship to other similar associations. It is hoped that an accurate picture has been drawn of the actual operation of the series of organizations that form the distributing system as a whole. It is also hoped that persons who contemplate organizing a cooperative marketing association can gain from the present analysis a satisfactorily comprehensive view of the difficulties likely to arise, and the manner in which a successful enterprise has met them. Citrus literature is voluminous, but on the marketing arrangements there are no connected accounts. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cooperative Marketing: Its Advantages as Exemplified in the California Fruit Growers Exchange Though printed accounts of cooperative efforts in the citrus industry are almost lacking, there is a considerable mass of lore connected with the exchange system. This I have tried to absorb by conversation and by observation. For many of the statements made no printed authority can be cited, but many of the assertions in the text are based upon papers, pamphlets and reports prepared by organiza tions in the citrus industry for their own information and made available on the condition that no direct reference be made to the source from which the information came. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1930s, when the competitive, free market system lay in ruins and the competing systems of fascism and communism were gaining strength, the Antigonish Movement emerged offering a "middle way." The movement favoured putting in place an integrated and dynamic system based on cooperative economic institutions under the control of the people. The Antigonish Movement originated with the establishment of the Extension Department of St Francis Xavier University in 1928, with Reverend Moses Coady as director. Guided by the social teaching of the Catholic Church, the movement promoted an array of economic activity and attracted widespread attention around the world. Visitors flocked to Antigonish to witness ordinary people, fishermen, farmers, and industrial workers, organize and establish their own enterprises, from fish processing plants to credit unions and co-operative stores. In The Big Picture Santo Dodaro and Leonard Pluta trace the history of this remarkable experiment from its origins through a period of expansion during the 1930s and 1940s, while identifying the key factors - vision, education, and institutional framework - that contributed to its early success.

Certain kinds of produce are no very commonly marketed through associations. Woodland products also may be marketed in this manner. In fact some cooperative shingle mills are already in operation, and box factories maintained for the supplying of boxes to fruit growers at cost might be considered cooperative enterprises. Much more might be done in this line, and this bulletin points out that what has been done in the cooperative marketing of other farm products can be done with woodland products also, with benefit both to the farmer and to the woodlands." -- p. 2
