Download or read book Marianas Sandwich written by Carlos Cuarón and published by Glat Entertainment . This book was released on 2024-03-20 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Sandwich of Mariana" tells the story of Mariana, a fifth-grade student who faces daily intimidation from Isabel and her friends during recess. Mariana, often the last to leave her classroom, lives in fear of having her sandwich taken by Isabel's clique. One day, driven by curiosity, Mariana follows Isabel home, where she witnesses Isabel's troubled family life. Mariana sees Isabel's older sister bullying her, her mother being verbally abused by her father, and the overall dysfunction within the household. Shocked by what she witnesses, Mariana decides to act with compassion. The next day, instead of avoiding Isabel, she approaches her during recess, finding her alone and punished. In a gesture of kindness, Mariana offers Isabel a sandwich with her favorite mayonnaise. This act of empathy transforms the dynamic between Mariana and Isabel, showing that understanding and kindness can overcome bullying. "The Sandwich of Mariana" serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness about bullying and promoting compassion in schools, reaching millions of readers in its free format.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mariana's Letter" is a cookbook written as you would write a note to a friend. This book comes from the many newsletters I wrote over the years. The recipes come from many sources but are mainly French and American. I have tried to stay away from recipes that have too many or hard to find ingredients or require too much to be done at the last minute. Recipes are often accompanied by stories, true or fictional. You do not have to be a cook to enjoy reading this book - only to enjoy the thought of a good meal and listening to a good story.I have always followed the rule that if one can not taste the recipe by reading it, it is better to discard it for one that tastes good in your head. I have spent some time in France as well as Washington, D.C., New York City and the Rangeley Lakes of Northwestern Maine and I come from a family of writers who loved to cook and tell stories

Book excerpt: ISOTOPE GEOCHEMISTRY Provides a thorough and up-to-date overview of radiogenic and stable isotope geochemistry Now in its second edition, Isotope Geochemistry presents a comprehensive introduction to radiogenic and stable isotope geochemistry. The first five chapters cover fundamentals including the physics of nuclei, radioactive decay, nucleosynthesis, geochronology, and the theory of stable isotope fractionation. The next chapter focuses on the isotope geochemistry of meteorites and their constraints on the formation of the solar system and the Earth. The subsequent three chapters cover radiogenic and stable isotope geochemistry evolution of the Earth’s mantle and crust. Three more chapters are devoted to the Earth’s surface, the exogene, including the hydrologic system, the biosphere, and climate. A new chapter in this edition focuses on the use of isotopes in paleontology and archeology. The final chapter is devoted to the isotope geochemistry of the noble gases. Illustrated in full color throughout, Isotope Geochemistry is intended primarily as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. It is also intended as a reference for earth science professionals, reflecting the impact that isotope geochemistry has on virtually every aspect of the earth sciences, from climate change and geomorphology to geodynamics.

Download or read book Mariana Griswold Van Rensselaer written by Judith K. Major and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mariana Griswold Van Rensselaer (1851–1934) was one of the premier figures in landscape writing and design at the turn of the twentieth century, a moment when the amateur pursuit of gardening and the increasingly professionalized landscape design field were beginning to diverge. This intellectual biography—the first in-depth study of the versatile critic and author—reveals Van Rensselaer’s vital role in this moment in the history of landscape architecture. Van Rensselaer was one of the new breed of American art and architecture critics, closely examining the nature of her profession and bringing a disciplined scholarship to the craft. She considered herself a professional, leading the effort among women in the Gilded Age to claim the titles of artist, architect, critic, historian, and journalist. Thanks to the resources of her wealthy mercantile family, she had been given a sophisticated European education almost unheard of for a woman of her time. Her close relationship with Frederick Law Olmsted influenced her ideas on landscape gardening, and her interest in botany and geology shaped the ideas upon which her philosophy and art criticism were based. She also studied the works of Charles Darwin, Alexander von Humboldt, Henry David Thoreau, and many other nineteenth-century scientists and nature writers, which influenced her general belief in the relationship between science and the imagination. Her cosmopolitan education and elevated social status gave her, much like her contemporary Edith Wharton, access to the homes and gardens of the upper classes. This allowed her to mingle with authors, artists, and affluent patrons of the arts and enabled her to write with familiarity about architecture and landscape design. Identifying over 330 previously unattributed editorials and unsigned articles authored by Van Rensselaer in the influential journal Garden and Forest—for which she was the sole female editorial voice—Judith Major offers insight into her ideas about the importance of botanical nomenclature, the similarities between landscape gardening and idealist painting, design in nature, and many other significant topics. Major’s critical examination of Van Rensselaer’s life and writings—which also includes selections from her correspondence—details not only her influential role in the creation of landscape architecture as a discipline but also her contribution to a broader public understanding of the arts in America.
Download or read book Oceanic Basalts written by P.A. Floyd and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basalt is the most voluminous of all the igneous rocks. Extensive field, experimental, petrographic and geochemical studies of basalt have provided us with a considerable understanding of igneous petrogenesis, plate tectonics, and crust-mantle interaction and exchange. One important aspect of geology that has developed over the last few decades is the study of oceanic basalts. The ocean basins cover about two thirds of the earth's surface and are floored by a basement of oceanic basalt that is continuously undergoing generation at spreading centres and destruction at subduction zones, a process which throughout geological time is recognized as the principal means of generating new crust. The study of oceanic basalts enables us to understand better the generation and recycling of crustal materials (including the continental crust), and the exchange between oceanic crust and seawater via hydrothermal activity. Compositional variations displayed by oceanic basalts provide windows into the mantle, and the identification of isotopically-distinct mantle reservoirs demonstrates that the source of oceanic basalts is heterogeneous and is controlled by convection and reservoir interactions within the mantle.
Download or read book The Spanish Governors of the Mariana Islands written by Marjorie G. Driver and published by University of Guam. This book was released on 2005 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than fifty Spanish officers served as governors during the 230 years that Spain administered the Mariana Islands, from 1668 to 1898. A dozen or so received six-year royal appointments, made in Madrid by the king, though the vast majority served three-year interim appointments, made in Manila by the Governor General or the Audiencia. In the nineteenth century, as the newly designated Province of the Mariana Islands, appointments to the governorship were often made by the Captaincy General of the Philippines. The source materials for this work are found primarily among the holdings of the Micronesian Area Research Center, Spanish Documents Collection, a secondary repository with copies of documentary materials concerning Micronesia from institutional collections in various parts of the world, though primarily Spain, Mexico, and the Philippines.
