Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With opinions and personal testimonies from the artists themselves, this book takes a detailed look at the huge impact that Mexican music and culture has had--and continues to have--on Country music in its various forms. This very American form of cultural expression has changed over the last few years, but Mexico--with its bordertowns, beaches, colonial architecture and ancient ruins conjuring up a range of powerful images--has remained an influential presence in Nashville, Texas, and even places like Australia and South Africa. Featuring contributions from Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffett, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Jessi Colter, Johnny Rodriguez and Flaco Jimenez, this book reveals the unique and largely undocumented relationship between "America's Music" and Mexico.

Download or read book The Monk from Brooklyn written by Antonio Graceffo and published by Gom Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2004-07 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Kung Fu and modern Chinese Buddhism, is the oldest and most mysterious Kung Fu school in the world. It is an exotic and mythical destination of daydreams to millions of people. In the history of the temple, very few foreigners have ever had a chance to study there. Foreigners have been allowed to study in many of the Shaolin schools, near the temple, which have taken the Shaolin name as a marketing ploy, but less than fifty foreigners have studied at the original Shaolin Temple. Antonio Graceffo was lucky enough to be one of the few, and this is the chronicle of his experience. Antonio has twenty-five years of experience with martial arts, so it is with a knowing eye that he observed the training at the temple. But it is his background that gives him a very unique perspective. An Italian-American from Brooklyn, New York, and a former investment banker, Antonio was educated in some of the best universities that Europe and Asia had to offer. His articles are informative, humorous, and irreverent. He doesn't pull any punches writing about the filthy conditions and the diminished mental capacities of people who spent a lifetime learning to kick, but never bothered to learn to read and write. The title says it all. Put a Chinese-speaking Italian-American, from Brooklyn in the holiest of Buddhist temples, and watch the racial harmony flow.

Download or read book A WHITE GUY S WALK THROUGH BLACK AMERICA written by Larry Fuqua and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-12-07 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book attempts to give an honest portrayal of my life much lived in America's black world. The "Black world of America" from my experiences is very much different than that of White America profoundly, so I found, through my experiences, study, and observations that there is a dislike and hatred may not be too strong a word to describe the feeling prevalent in Black America. I don't feel my description is, in any way, an exaggeration. I am also the author of more than one hundred essays on race, Black racism, and a proponent for the adaption of a new college course (may be adaptable for high school juniors and seniors) titled "Comparative Racism." I also describe my fourteen years policing in Black neighborhoods with a Black partner. I look at police corruption, corrupt city officials, and I describe my personal experiences and knowledge of events and members of the Chicago's south suburban mafia. I give insight into personal experiences with Black racists and racism at various level in Black America. I covered my time as a White student at an HBCU and my many intimacies with black sistas, including my marriage to a Black woman. Sex, crime, corruption, mafia, racism, hatred, corporate intrigues, it's all between these pages, much of which, I am not proud. I am not Black, but I know I had a perch few other White people have had in my personal experiences. You be the judge, but for me, I am not optimistic about the future of Black and White America. Tell me it ain't so.

But after a night they can’t remember, filled with drinks, drugs, and decisions they wish to forget, Nora and Daphne awaken to a scene straight from a horror film: they’re drenched in blood with zero memory of how it happened. The duo’s frantic quest to piece together the night leads them into the darkest corners of Hollywood, a place far removed from its shimmering veneer. As they delve deeper, whispered secrets in dive bars and encounters with shadowy criminals reveal a chilling conspiracy. Nora and Daphne face a critical choice: uncover the truth and risk everything, or become the next victims of Hollywood’s sinister underbelly. Last Night Never Happened is a riveting thriller by best-selling authors Sean Platt and Nolon King, where every page tightens the noose of suspense around the throat of Hollywood.
Download or read book Typical written by Padgett Powell and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-three surreal fictions—stories, character assassinations, and mini-travelogues—from one of the most heralded writers of the American South There are many things that repulse “Dr. Ordinary.” “Kansas” is notable for its distinct lack of farmland. “Wayne’s Fate” is most unfortunate, not merely for Wayne but for the roofer pal who stands by watching his good buddy lose his head. “Miss Resignation” simply cannot win at Bingo. And there is nothing “Typical” about the unemployed steelworker and self-described “piece of crud” who strides through this collection’s title story. Welcome to the world of Padgett Powell, one of the most original American literary voices in recent memory. Typical is both a bravura demonstration of Powell’s passion for words, and an offbeat, perceptive view of contemporary life—an enthralling work by a one-of-a-kind wordsmith, and a redefinition of what short fiction can be.
