Book Classifying the Aramaic Texts from Qumran

Download or read book Classifying the Aramaic Texts from Qumran written by John Starr and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-15 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of the scroll fragments of the Qumran Aramaic scrolls has been plentiful to date. Their shared characteristics of being written in Aramaic, the common language of the region, not focused on the Qumran Community, and dating from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE have enabled the creation of a shared identity, distinguishing them from other fragments found in the same place at the same time. This classification, however, could yet be too simplistic as here, for the first time, John Starr applies sophisticated statistical analyses to newly available electronic versions of these fragments. In so doing, Starr presents a potential new classification which comprises six different text types which bear distinctive textual features, and thus is able to narrow down the classification both temporally and geographically. Starr's re-visited classification presents fresh insights into the Aramaic texts at Qumran, with important implications for our understanding of the many strands that made up Judaism in the period leading to the writing of the New Testament.

Book Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament

Download or read book Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament written by Gleason L. Archer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-01-26 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "New Testament writers drew heavily from Old Testament Scriptures as the demonstrated the fulfillment of the plan and promises of God in Christ. The New Testament is filled with such quotations, but their use raises several problems. How do we account for the occasions when the New Testament writers seem to take liberties with the Hebrew text, or when the wording of other New Testament citations of the Old Testament is closer to the Greek Septuagint (LXX) than to the original Hebrew? [The authors] have undertaken a systematic study of the use of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament. In three parallel columns for ready reference and study they have affixed the Masoretic Hebrew, Septuagint, and Greek New Testament texts pertinent to each quotation. A fourth column-- the largest segment of the valulable language tool--provides a critical commentary of orthographic, linguistic, and textual notes on the 312 entries. In addition, the authors include the results of a statistical survey in which every quotation is assigned to one of six levels to determine its degree of difficulty regarding the faithfulness of the New Testament to the Old Testament quotation. Helpful introductory material, including complete cross-references to the tool in both Old and New Testament order, make the work invaluable to scholars and students alike" -- BOOK JACKET from Moody Press.

Book The Aramaic English Interlinear Peshitta Old Testament The Minor Prophets

Download or read book The Aramaic English Interlinear Peshitta Old Testament The Minor Prophets written by Rev. David Bauscher and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-03-28 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a literal word for word interlinear translation of the 1900+ year old Aramaic Old Testament called the Peshitta. Aramaic was the native language of Jesus and of Israel in the 1st century AD. This volume contains the Minor Prophets: Hosea through Malachi (the last 12 books of the Old testament). The text translated is the 6th or 7th century Codex Ambrosianus- the oldest complete Semitic Old Testament extant. The Peshitta Old Testament was very likely translated from the Hebrew Bible in the 1st century AD in Israel by Christian coverts from Judaism, or possibly Syrian Christians from across Israel's border. Either way, the Peshitta Old and New Testaments together constitute the first Christian Bible. The author has also translated and published interlinears of the Aramaic Peshitta Torah, The Poetry Books, The Major Prophets, as well as the entire Aramaic Peshitta New Testament and plain English translations of the NT, the Torah, the Psalms & Proverbs. Paperback 8x11" 146 pages in B&W.
