Download or read book Manuel sur la conception de formations la comp tence interculturelle Partie 1 written by Conseil de l'Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2023-07-01 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2023-07-01 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing training on intercultural competence to staff and officials at all levels of government will help member states to efficiently implement the Council of Europe intercultural integration model Intercultural competence is the set of knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes which enables individuals and organisations to act in an interculturally competent way. It is not a single concept, but a wide range of competences which, when combined, allow for proactive action to secure a healthy intercultural environment. This manual aims to support public authorities to design their own tailor-made training courses with a view to spreading the skills and competence necessary to implement the Council of Europe intercultural integration model in a coherent and multilevel manner. It contains a description of the main features of intercultural competence, followed by seven concepts that are key for the successful implementation of intercultural integration strategies by public authorities. It is split into two publications for ease of access. This is Part 2 of the manual. It deals with the concepts related to the Council of Europe intercultural integration model, including information about prejudice, discrimination and inclusive communication.

This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Even if one of the missions of French schools in linguistic minority contexts in Canada is to (re)produce the cultures and the language of the Francophone communities, these schools also have to be inclusive to insure the success of students presenting ethnocultural, linguistic, and religious diversity. Thus, principals and future principals of these schools need to develop their intercultural competence (IC). However, IC is not defined in the educational administration literature regarding linguistic minority contexts. Therefore, our study aimed to 1) define the school principal's IC, and 2) design and pilot a training session that fulfills the needs of school principals to understand how it develops their IC. To achieve this goal, we undertook a qualitative study based on a pragmatic-interpretative paradigm and used a research and development design (Van der Maren, 2003) that involves six distinct phases: 1) analysing the need, 2) writing the specifications, 3) design the training, 4) preparing the training, 5) trying out and validating the training, 6) disseminating the results. We developed an intercultural immersion training session in Morocco and seven people from four provinces participated in it. Written exercises were completed and two interviews were conducted. To analyse the data, we used content analysis and QSR NVivo 8 software. Our results of trainees' perceptions pertain to: 1) the IC definition, 2) the development of their IC before, during and after the stay in Morocco that they experienced, and 3) the conditions that influenced the development of their IC. In light of those results, we proposed the following two hypothetical models regarding principals and future principals of French schools in a linguistic minority context: 1) a hypothetical model of IC which includes three components and 12 indicators, 2) a hypothetical model of the international intercultural immersion training session which includes seven conditions. Based on the findings, it can be inferred that an intercultural immersion experience could have a positive impact on the IC of participants and increase inclusion of immigrant school stakeholders.

Book excerpt: Living among other people, in their families and communities, children become aware from a very early age of questions related to justice, and they search for the meaning of the world. By fostering an understanding of human rights, shaping opinion and developing attitudes, human rights education strongly supports this natural interest and learning process. This is what human rights education is about and this is what ’Compasito manual on human rights education for children' is for.’Compasito' is a starting point for educators, teachers and trainers who are ready to deal with human rights education with children of 7-13 years. The book covers the key concepts of human rights and children's rights, and provides substantial theoretical background to 13 key human rights issues, such as democracy, citizenship, gender equality, environment, media, poverty, and violence. The 42 practical activities serve to engage and motivate children to recognise human rights issues in their own environment. They help children to develop critical thinking, responsibility and a sense of justice, and help them learn how to take action to contribute to the betterment of their school or community. The manual also gives practical tips on how it can be used in various formal and non-formal educational settings.

Book Introducing Intercultural Communication

Download or read book Introducing Intercultural Communication written by Shuang Liu and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2010-11-09 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Books on intercultural communication are rarely written with an intercultural readership in mind. In contrast, this multinational team of authors has put together an introduction to communicating across cultures that uses examples and case studies from around the world. The book further covers essential new topics, including international conflict, social networking, migration, and the effects technology and mass media play in the globalization of communication. Written to be accessible for international students too, this text situates communication theory in a truly global perspective. Each chapter brings to life the links between theory and practice and between the global and the local, introducing key theories and their practical applications. Along the way, you will be supported with first-rate learning resources, including: • theory corners with concise, boxed-out digests of key theoretical concepts • case illustrations putting the main points of each chapter into context • learning objectives, discussion questions, key terms and further reading framing each chapter and stimulating further discussion • a companion website containing resources for instructors, including multiple choice questions, presentation slides, exercises and activities, and teaching notes. This book will not merely guide you to success in your studies, but will teach you to become a more critical consumer of information and understand the influence of your own culture on how you view yourself and others.

Book Learning how to handle controversial issues in schools and other education settings

Download or read book Learning how to handle controversial issues in schools and other education settings written by David Kerr and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2021-01-13 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning how to deal with controversial issues is at the heart of education for democratic citizenship and human rights education. Highlighting best practices from case studies across Europe, this guide offers innovative approaches and practical tools to handle controversy in schools effectively. Controversy and controversial issues are at the centre and at all levels of our democratic societies. This means that learning how to deal with such issues must always be at the heart of an effective education for democratic citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE). That learning takes place in schools and other education settings as children and young people progress in their education from early years, through primary, lower secondary and upper-secondary phases, into tertiary and higher education and beyond. The Council of Europe has an outstanding record in promoting education for democratic citizenship, human rights education and intercultural dialogue, and in fostering and teaching about the importance of democratic culture. It is therefore fitting that the Council of Europe, in partnership with the European Union, through the Joint Programme “Democratic and Inclusive School Culture in Operation” (DISCO) – formerly known as the Human Rights and Democracy in Action Pilot Projects Scheme – has helped to facilitate the creation of this very timely good practice guide, which complements the manuals Teaching controversial issues and Managing controversy.
