Download or read book The Pathologisation of Homosexuality in Fascist Italy written by Gabriella Romano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book investigates the pathologisation of homosexuality during the fascist regime in Italy through an analysis of the case of G., a man with "homosexual tendencies" interned in the Collegno mental health hospital in 1928. No systematic study exists on the possibility that Fascism used internment in an asylum as a tool of repression for LGBT people, as an alternative to confinement on an island, prison or home arrests. This research offers evidence that in some cases it did. The book highlights how the dictatorship operated in a low-key, shadowy and undetectable manner, bending pre-existing legislation. Its brutality was - and still is - difficult to prove. It also emphasises the ways in which existing stereotypes on homosexuality were reinforced by the regime propaganda in support of its so-called moralising campaign and how families, the police and the medical professionals joined forces in implementing this form of repression.
Download or read book The State of the Psychoanalytic Nation Volume I written by Paul Cundy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book charts the ways in which psychoanalytic psychotherapy has been implemented, developed and researched within the public sectors of twelve different countries around the world. It discusses how psychoanalytic practitioners locally have responded to the challenge of evidence-based practice. For each country the authors describe: • How people can access talking therapies as part of the national healthcare system, including a brief history of how this system has developed and the place of psychoanalytic psychotherapy inside/outside of this system historically • How clinicians train and qualify as a psychoanalytic practitioner, and demographic profiles of their communities of psychoanalytic practice • How evidence-based practice has impacted the mental health system and, in particular, access to and provision of talking therapies e.g. through the development and implementation of treatment guidelines • How outcome monitoring and reporting of access, waiting times and recovery rates are used in the commissioning and provision of psychological therapies • What is needed to secure a viable future for psychoanalytic psychotherapy The first of two volumes, this book will be of great interest to all practicing psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists. The chapters in these volumes were originally published as special issues of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
Download or read book Psychology and Law in a Changing World written by Lara Bagnoli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Criminal psychology, and its relationship to the practice of law, has become a topic of major significance over the last three decades. Psychologists play a key role in modern criminal investigation and are central to crime reduction measures such as offender profiling, delinquency prevention and tackling fear of crime. Contributors from North America, Europe and Australia examine this link, both adding to and drawing upon the pool of recent theory construction and empirical work in the following areas: * causes and prevention of offending * studies of crime and offenders * the victim's perspective * witnesses and testimony * studies of legal processes. These issues are studied from a 'local' perspective that recognises not only the need for cross-national comparative research, but also the generation of a corpus of scientific knowledge more representative of the complexity of criminal and legal investigation today.

Download or read book CBT Case Formulation as Therapeutic Process written by Giovanni Maria Ruggiero and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-09 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reasserts the importance of case formulation as the first step in implementing effective cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), centering it as the main operative tool of CBT approaches by which the therapist handles the whole psychotherapeutic process. Chapters discuss specific CBT interventions and components of the treatment, aspecific factors including therapeutic alliance and relationship, and theoretical and historical background of CBT practices. In addition, the book assumes that in CBTs the case formulation is a procedure which is continuously shared and reevaluated between patient and therapist throughout the course of treatment. This aspect is increasingly becoming the distinguishing feature of CBT approaches as it embodies CBT's basic tenets and implies full confidence in patients’ conscious agreement, transparent cooperation and explicit commitment with CBT’s model of clinical change.

Download or read book Semantic Polarities and Psychopathologies in the Family written by Valeria Ugazio and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-21 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gap between psychotherapeutic practice and clinical theory is ever widening. Therapists still don’t know what role interpersonal relations play in the development of the most common psychopathologies. Valeria Ugazio bridges this gap by examining phobias, obsessive-compulsions, eating disorders, and depression in the context of the family, using an intersubjective approach to personality. Her concept of “semantic polarities” gives a groundbreaking perspective to the construction of meaning in the family and other interpersonal contexts. At no point is theory left in the wasteland of abstraction. The concreteness of the many case studies recounted, and examples taken from well-known novels, will allow readers to immediately connect the topics discussed with their own experience.
Download or read book Rediscovering Pierre Janet written by Giuseppe Craparo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rediscovering Pierre Janet explores the legacy left by the pioneering French psychologist, philosopher and psychotherapist (1859–1947), from the relationship of between Janet and Freud, to the influence of his dissociation theory on contemporary psychotraumatology. Divided into three parts, the first section places Janetian psychological analysis and psychoanalysis in context with the foundational tenets of psychoanalysis, from Freud to relational theory, before the book explores Janet’s work on trauma and dissociation and its influence on contemporary thinking. Part three presents several contemporary psychotherapy approaches directly influenced by Janetian theory, including the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder and dissociative identity disorder. Rediscovering Pierre Janet draws together eminent scholars from a variety of backgrounds, each of whom has developed Janetian constructs according to his or her own theoretical and clinical models. It provides an integrative approach that offers contemporary perspectives on Janet’s work, and will be of significant interest to practicing psychoanalysts, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, especially those treating trauma-related dissociative disorders, as well as researchers with an interest in psychological trauma.
