Download or read book Manual of References and Exercises in Economics Vol 2 written by Frank A. Fetter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of References and Exercises in Economics, Vol. 2: For Use With,, Modern Economic Problems This Manual follows the lines of the "Manual of References and Exercises," published in the autumn of 1916, to accompany the volume on Economic Principles. The literature of the field treated in "Modern Economic Problems" is now so vast that no more than a few of the titles could be included in the following lists. The references given are usually the more recent of those that would be helpful to students desiring to go more deeply into the subjects. The collection of questions and exercises is based upon the list printed, first in 1904 and much enlarged in 1910, in the author's "Principles of Economics." Much material has been added that had been shaped and used in class work at Princeton University, and a few other problems have been drawn from, or suggested by, other published lists. The plan of indicating the original sources of a number of these questions has been found to be too difficult to be completed for the present edition. Indeed, it appears that numerous test problems have become a common heritage for economic teachers, and one can hardly be sure when one has traced the ideas to their original sources. Some of them have appeared in somewhat differing forms in various lists for a half century past. Particular acknowledgment is made to my colleagues, Professors Adriance and McCabe, who devised a number of the questions for class use; and to Dr. Stanley E. Howard, who has given most valuable aid in the preparation of this Manual in its present form. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Manual of References and Exercises in Economics Vol 1

Download or read book Manual of References and Exercises in Economics Vol 1 written by Frank A. Fetter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of References and Exercises in Economics, Vol. 1: For Use With,, Economic Principles The literature of economics is so extensive that a complete bibliography of some single chapters of a general text would fill a book. Many of the books cited below on special topics contain elaborate special bibliographies. General texts in economies are, with rare exceptions, not included here; the student can conveniently consult them on any topic by means of the index with which each of them is provided. Large use has been made, however, of the several volumes of selected readings in economics which have appeared within the past few years and which now are to be found in most college libraries. These are cited under brief titles as follows: Materials, for Materials for the study of elementary economics, by members of the department of political economy of the University of Chicago, 1913. Readings, Bullock, for Selected readings in economics, C. J. Bullock (ed.), 1907. Readings, Hamilton, for Readings in current economic problems, W. H. Hamilton (ed.), 1914. Source Book, for Source book in Economics, F. A. Fetter (ed.), 1912. It is more than questionable whether the student of an elementary text should be required to read extensively outside in the more or less controversial literature of the subject. This is especially true of the field of the principles, covered in Volume I, where careful drill in definition and clear thinking are more to be sought than voluminous reading. Accordingly, no attempt has been made to cite the many writings that have contributed to the development of economic doctrine in its details in the last half century. The names of the authors and of their writings are to be sought by the more advanced student of theory in the voluminous special literature of the subject. Where the conception developed in the text and the grouping of materials are along unconventional lines, the references in some cases represent a somewhat different point of view from that of the text, but are valuable for their suggestiveness. In other cases preference has been given to concrete examples embodying the principles presented. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Economics Volume 2 Modern Economic Problems

Download or read book Economics Volume 2 Modern Economic Problems written by Frank A. Fetter and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2020 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Fetter's 'Economic Principles' is the second half of a two-volume treatise on economics. The first half 'Economic Principles' deals with the basics. The author of this volume is one of the great American economists. His contributions to economic literature have been notable, and while it would, of course, be too much to say that they have won universal acceptance, it can safely be affirmed that they have quite generally been accorded respectful and sympathetic attention. Professor Fetter occupies a place of distinction, not only as a thinker and writer in the field of economics, but also as a university teacher. Several years ago he served also as President of the American Economic Association. Few are better qualified, therefore, to prepare a general treatise on economics. This volume constitutes the second part of a work dealing with the principles of economics which in some respects may be regarded as a revision of Professor Fetter's Principles of Economics, published as a single volume. But the treatment of the principles of value and distribution in volume I of the new work differs materially, if not radically, from that in the earlier text, and, at the same time, as Professor Fetter himself remarks, the years since have been so replete with interesting happenings in the field of practical problems that volume II represents more than a mere revision of the corresponding chapters in the earlier book. Hence, the present volumes taken together must be regarded as an essentially new contribution. Considering the variety of economic problems that Professor Fetter discusses, it seems extraordinary that he has been able to compress his treatment within the limits of a comparatively small book. His success in this direction, however, has been due to his method of treatment. While essential facts have not been neglected, he has not at tempted to give an encyclopedic description of all the elements involved in the several problems, but he has confined himself rather to a setting forth of the points of principle involved in them, suggesting in this connection, the solutions which sound analysis and a healthy for as a writer, it will appear superfluous to speak of style. But for those who may not know, let it be said that Professor Fetter writes with a nicety and clearness of expression and with a delicacy of touch and of humor that stamp him as a writer of the first class.
