Book A Manual of the Gymnastic Exercises

Download or read book A Manual of the Gymnastic Exercises written by Edward Hitchcock and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of the Gymnastic Exercises: As Practised by the Junior Class in Amherst College, Amherst, Mass The need of a manual like the present is seen in the fact that three editions of a similar work have been issued at Amherst during the past few years. The recent advances made in this department, and the increased facilities of our new Pratt Gymnasium, now ready for occupancy, seem to demand a new manual, and one which shall more fully meet the practical wants of teachers and educational institutions everywhere. The object of this manual is to furnish a series of exercises, by the use of which a teacher can directly instruct a class in light gymnastics; or an ingenious person may take the leading points in these exercises, and adapt them to peculiar wants and circumstances, thus giving a greater variety and pleasure of movement. There is also given a series of simple military movements that may be made by a class or company of from twenty to a hundred, - male or female, - either in a small out-of-doors area, or in an ordinary hall. Book Manual of Exercises in Physical Training Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Manual of Exercises in Physical Training Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Carl Ziegler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Exercises in Physical Training, Vol. 1 Since those who do the actual teaching are the ones who should understand the needs and conditions best, all the members of the Physical Training Department were called in conference. This book embodies many features suggested by their experience. It is only when we attain correct and energetic execution on the part of the pupils, when teachers and pupils alike have grasped the purpose of each exercise, so as to be able to detect and correct faulty execution, that we may hope for those results which alone justify teaching this subject. In order that the greatest possible good may accrue to the pupils, the teachers must thoroughly acquaint themselves with the subject matter. The Instructions to Teachers, the descriptions of the exercises, the manner of giving commands, as well as the lessons which are to be given, must be carefully studied. Teachers must also observe closely the work of the special teachers, and learn the best methods of giving a gymnastic lesson. In this way they will learn to use to the best possible advantage the limited time allowed this subject. The lessons must be memorized so that they can be given without reference to the book. There must be a regular time in the daily program for the exercises, and at this time the complete lesson should be given. The conditions under which the work is conducted in the regular class room are not altogether favorable. For this reason the success of the lesson will depend largely upon the attitude of the class teacher. The fidelity and faithful cooperation of the teachers and those in charge of the schools will determine the results attained. This manual contains fifty lessons, each of which is intended to be for two weeks. Each grade will use twenty lessons, as follows. Book The Gymnastic Polymachinon

Download or read book The Gymnastic Polymachinon written by James Chiosso and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gymnastic Polymachinon: Instructions for Performing a Systematic Series of Exercises on the Gymnastic Calisthenic Polymachinon In a former Treatise I considered Gymnastics as an essential branch of popular education, and an invaluable remedial agent in many forms of chronic disease; and the favourable reception of that work by the press and public, together with the daily extending interest manifested in this important subject, have induced the publication of this little manual. For while the Author views with pleasure the advance of physical education, he is aware that many, who would willingly adopt exercise as a hygienic or curative medium, either have not access to gymnasiums, or are deterred through ignorance of the movements they should adopt, as well as from fear of the evils resulting from indiscriminate and violent exertion; and for such, the following series of scientifically arranged exercises will be found admirably suited, as the Polymachinon combines perfect safety, with all the essential elements of the most elaborate gymnasium. History of the Polymachinon. Bodily exercise, to be of use, not temporarily but permanently, must be of such a nature as to act gradually on the various complicated sets of motors of the body in every possible way, from the head to the feet, without the chance of their receiving the least strain; and the first efforts to produce an instrument, by which this might be securely effected, were made by the author in the year 1829. These met with signal success, and were fully appreciated by all who placed themselves under his care; amongst whom might be mentioned many eminent members of the medical profession.
