Download or read book Sustainable Consumption written by Alberto do Amaral Junior and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a broad understanding of whether law plays a role in influencing patterns of sustainable consumption and, if so, how. Bringing together legal scholars from the Global South and the Global North, it examines these questions in the context of national, transnational and international law, within single and plural legal systems, and across a range of sector-specific issue areas. The chapters identify how traditional legal disciplines (e.g. constitutional law, consumer law, public procurement, international public law), sector-related regulation (e.g. energy, water, waste), and legal rules in specific areas (e.g. eco-labelling and packing) engage with the concept of sustainable consumption. A number of the contributions describe this relationship by isolating a national legal system, while others approach it from the vantage point of legal pluralism, exploring the conflicts and convergences of rules between multiple international treaties (or guidelines) and those between the rules of international and transnational law (or both) vis-à-vis national legal systems. While sustainable consumption is recognised as an important field of interdisciplinary research linking virtually all social science disciplines, legal scholarship, in contrast, has neglected the importance of the field of sustainable consumption to the law. This book fills the gap.

  • ISBN : 9403507128
  • Pages : 219 pages

Download or read book Competition Law in Uruguay written by Hector Ferreira and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of competition law and its interpretation in Uruguay covers every aspect of the subject – the various forms of restrictive agreements and abuse of dominance prohibited by law and the rules on merger control; tests of illegality; filing obligations; administrative investigation and enforcement procedures; civil remedies and criminal penalties; and raising challenges to administrative decisions. Lawyers who handle transnational commercial transactions will appreciate the explanation of fundamental differences in procedure from one legal system to another, as well as the international aspects of competition law. Throughout the book, the treatment emphasizes enforcement, with relevant cases analysed where appropriate. An informative introductory chapter provides detailed information on the economic, legal, and historical background, including national and international sources, scope of application, an overview of substantive provisions and main notions, and a comprehensive description of the enforcement system including private enforcement. The book proceeds to a detailed analysis of substantive prohibitions, including cartels and other horizontal agreements, vertical restraints, the various types of abusive conduct by the dominant firms and the appraisal of concentrations, and then goes on to the administrative enforcement of competition law, with a focus on the antitrust authorities’ powers of investigation and the right of defence of suspected companies. This part also covers voluntary merger notifications and clearance decisions, as well as a description of the judicial review of administrative decisions. Its succinct yet scholarly nature, as well as the practical quality of the information it provides, make this book a valuable time-saving tool for business and legal professionals alike. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Uruguay will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of international and comparative competition law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the most comprehensive and up-to-date source of information about ways in which consumer activism has reshaped the economic and political well-being of citizens in the United States and around the world. This all-encompassing collection of information about consumer activism and the consumer movement will provide students, public officials, business groups, and other activists with a one-stop source of facts and insights. The contributors explore hundreds of major consumer protections that have significantly enhanced the quality of life and safety for all Americans, showing how these protections were won through the skillful and determined work of leading activists and activist organizations. Many of the stories told here are related by the activists themselves, often for the first time. More than 140 entries offer a comprehensive treatment of the consumer activism of specific organizations, their leaders, and strategies. The book also includes more than 40 entries about consumer movements in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. A timeline of key events and a listing of the most important books on the subject of consumer activism help provide context for the individual entries as do two introductory essays. Book Civil Courts and the European Polity

Download or read book Civil Courts and the European Polity written by Chantal Mak and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-07-13 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters collected in this book explore the place and role of judge-made private law in an emerging European polity. Examining case-law from the perspective of different theories and viewpoints, scholars and judges assess and reflect on the role of judges in civil cases for polity-building in Europe. The chapters thus present a kaleidoscopic view on the dynamics of private law adjudication against a European backdrop. The book aims to add a private legal perspective to existing discourses in European constitutional law on Europe's political constellation. It aspires to enrich two debates – the first on the influence of fundamental rights in private legal relations, and the second on the constitutional dimension of European private law. The contributions are placed within a framework of five sub-categories or dimensions of judge-made European private law: politics of European private law adjudication, rights, remedies, representation and reflections of judges on specific cases.
